I spent a lot of time trying out GPS units, and have compared Garmin, Tom Tom, Magellan, and several factory GPS units. All of these GPS units tell you how to get somewhere and will re-route if you make a wrong turn. However, Garmin is my absolute favorite, and here's why:

1. The most important thing about Garmin units is the user interface. It is simple to understand and easy to use.

2. The Garmin unit uses a built in database of sunrise and sunset times (based upon your location) to automatically change from daylight mode to night-time mode. This is important because the daylight screen is much too bright for use at night. With the Tom Tom, you must make this change manually.

3. If you have the Garmin unit plugged into your car power, when you turn off the car (and the cigarette lighter power goes off), the Garmin unit will detect that and automatically turn itself off (it gives you 30 seconds to override and keep the unit on).

4. When you start your car again, the Garmin unit will detect that too and automatically power up. If you were in the middle of a trip, the Garmin unit will pick up where you left off, and you won't have to tell it where you were going again.

5. Unlike most factory GPS units, Garmin will allow you to select your route and make changes while you are moving.

6. The Garmin units have an extensive database of locations and the excellent interface makes it easy to search the database to find what you want. Do you want food or gas? Just click three buttons and a list of locations (sorted by distance) will appear. If you know the name of the place you want, you can type it in on the on-screen keypad and Garmin will find it for you. You can even add your own locations using the favorites feature. I first started using this when I was out of town, but its amazing what you'll find near you when you look.

7. While you are driving, the Garmin unit will both prompt you to turn and give you a written explanation of the turn (including the street or highway name and direction) at the top of the screen. The Garmin unit also shows an estimated arrival time (usually a few minutes earlier than you'll actually arrive) and the distance to your next turn. A separate screen gives you detailed trip information, including how far and how long you've been driving and your maximum speed. I used mine on an airplane once (yes, it is allowed - read the back of the airplane magazine), and it now says that by maximum speed was 590 miles per hour.

8. I often use the Garmin even when driving locally, becase it often finds better, faster ways to get there then the way that I usually use.

9. Garmin offers a variety of installation options and accessories. My favorite is the friction based dashboard mount (three weights connected to a center stand) which is much more convenient than the supplied mounting system.

10. If you turn off the GPS receiver (see settings) and then look up another location, you will get the option to set this new location as your present location. This will allow you to use search Garmin's points of interest for the new location. This is a great feature when planning trips, because Garmin's points of interest database is quite extensive and includes all of the typical tourist attractions, plus food, shopping, gas, banking, etc.

11. Be sure to check for the latest map and firmware updates at Garmin's web-site.

For years, I've used and relied on a Garmin StreetPilot III and thought it was great. But technology has obviously improved over the past few years, and I couldn't be more impressed with my Nuvi 350. Imagine a device about the size of a PDA, only much lighter, which contains detailed road data for the entire country. It's so light, in fact, that I don't believe that the suction cup mount will ever give out. I love the way it clearly speaks the directions, including the names of the streets. But the REALLY cool thing about the Nuvi is that there's no learning curve! Due to the super-easy touch screen, you can take the device right out of the box and easily use it right away without reading any material at all. In fact, you could tell your 90-year old grandmother to please go to your car and program a destination into the device, and she could do it with amazing ease. This may be one of the more expensive portable GPS devices out there, but it's worth every penny. If you're shopping around, stop now. This is the best GPS in the world!

Over-all I love this thing. The pictures on the screen are great. The screen even changes color during diffent times of the day. The background is white during the day and black at night. This saves your eyes from getting burned out at night. It is easy to set up and I plugged it in and set it up in less then 10 minutes after leaving the store. All US and Canada maps are built in. Including all kinds of waypoints. I live in a small town and im impressed by how many places this thing already knows.It does seem a little off on some destinations by several feet but it always gets me in the right area. I beleive it goes off Postal address zones/areas. It shows my house at the begining of the small street I live on, instead of the end, but yahoo maps does that too. I am also using it in a small town and that might be part of the problem. It uses SD cards for the MP3 player. You can also buy preloaded language and book SD cards for it from Garmin. I havent had to deal with Garmin Support yet, but I did download some desktop software for it. It connects to your computer via a USB port.

Excellent unit for it's size, capabilities, and price range. I've had the Nuvi for about 3 months now and overall am very pleased. Like most things in life, it does have it's quirks. Most of the previous customer reviews nail them on the head. When I first got it, I printed out a hard copy of the users manual (in Pdf. format) and downloaded the updates from Garmin's website. I registered on their website and receive e-mails notifying me when updates are available. I believe if all us Nuvi owners send e-mails to Garmin with our concerns, they will work on updates to make it virtually flawless! They've made 3 updates in the past 3 months so they are working on it!

As many have already said, this is a great product. 4 stars because the MP3 player lacks playlist support, and there's no learning feature (i.e., I will never follow it's directions within 2 miles of my house and it will never learn my favored route).

I added a wired FM modulator to connect it to my stereo speakers, which took some effort, but now works great.

Many have complained of the suction cup failing. I had a similar problem and found an easy solution - treat the bottom of the suction cup with a leather moisturizer, especially one containing silicone. The silicone won't dry out like simple water would and the mount stays rock solid.

I upgraded to the Nuvi 350 from Garmin's Quest. I love the bigger screen, the touch screen input and the spoken directions. However, I was surprised that the Nuvi doesn't allow customization of the main screen as the Quest did. For example I would like to display time to destination instead of arrival time but can't do it. The added functions of MP3 player and travel companion are of no use to me so I would have preferred a more dedicated car navigatior. Don't get me wrong though, I still like this unit a lot and I think it is the best GPS available to date.

Works as expected. Am still learning to use it. Compact and easy to carry with you after parking.

Sometimes anounces arrival on the wrong side, i.e. on left when address is on the right. Sometimes seems to take a little long to locate satellites.

I have purchased the dash mount - $30 + shipping, which puts the screen closer to me, and makes the unit easier to remove and conceal, i.e. no suction cup on the windshield. Be aware, however, that the arm on the windshield mount which comes with the Nuvi does not fit the dash mount, and you will need to buy yet another arm for an add'l $30 + shipping. This was not explained in the Amazon description.

After two years of meticulous research over the internet and electronics stores, I finally took the plunge and bought the Nuvi 350 last March. And after five months of owning this GPS, I definitely have no regrets nor buyers' remorse.

Pros:
-Blazingly fast satellite lock-in (mere seconds); arguably the market leader as opposed to the Magellan roadmate.
-Diminutive size; it's the iPod of portable GPS units.
-Tons of features: MP3 player, photo viewer, travel guide, etc..
-Ultra secure windshield mount (the suction cup clings like a leech to the glass).
-Frequent firmware updates from garmin website.
-Millions of POIs (points of interest).
Cons:
-Screen glare under bright sunlight (newer models have eliminated this problem).
-Occasional screen freeze (but easily remedied by resetting).
-Expensive (but you get what you pay for).
-POIs need some updates (some gas stations are inexistent as well as some restaurants).

Overall, this is a solid buy. It is by far one of the best investments I have ever made. With the current exorbitant price of fuel, this will save you hundreds of dollars since you never drive in circles looking for addresses. This unit will pay for itself in due time while saving you the hassle of printing out maps from mapquest or deciphering which direction is north. It saves you the headache and panic of getting lost in the middle of nowhere. It spells the difference of making your weekend excursions stress-free or a nightmare.

I used the next day after I received the 350, drove out of town. The device constantly reminds me couple of hundred feet before you need to exit, than about 50 feet before. I don't have to worry about non-visible or confusing sign posts. Just follow it.

Pros
1. Fast route recalculation.
2. Rich features.
3. Very compact.
4. Very detailed maps and voice guides.
5. Easy to use.

Cons
1. Expensive (but I think it's worth the money).
2. Hard copy manual not included.
3. No documentation on how to perform initial online updates whatsoever. It doesn't come with any CD. Took me coule of minutes to figured it out.

When you first connect your 350 to the computer using the USB cable, open up My Computer and you will see an extra drive appeared named Garmin or Nuvi (can't remember which). Double click on it to open it, you will see the manual in PDF format. In that manual, it has link that will take you to the web page where you can perform and download new firmware and updated files.

I would give it a 4 1/2 stars but i don't have that option. So I decided to give it a 5 stars. My Cons are not really against the device itself. Just normally you would expect a hard copy of manual and an installation CD.

This gadget though pricey was a great investment. It has saved us so much time when traveling. It's great for finding the nearest gas station or food options available. I bought it for my fiance because we had dreams of geocaching and take quite a few road trips. Now that I know a little more about geocaching, I don't think this is the type of gps we'd need. We are so pleased with it for everyday use though. We don't care. I like that I can use it as a pedestrian (finding out of the way places when walking) and love that I can hand it to houseguests instead of having to constantly print out mapquests. My parents thought it was a godsend when they were visiting. And as frugal as they are were very interested in getting one of their own. The only downside is that sometimes the maps are outdated. A couple times it has asked me to turn at the next street when I'm on the freeway. Not quite possible. But I can always get back on track. A good gps will change your life. We love it!

I am a freelance person and need to drive to different locations all the time. I used to go to mapquest and that worked fine.
I've had the Nuvi for about 2 months now and i'm starting to use it more and more. As a matter of fact, the other day I was in a rush had no time to verify the directions with mapquest. I just entered the address into the Nuvi and it got me to the location early. It used back roads that I would have never thought to take and the trip itself was more pleasant than the typical highway route I might have chosen myself. Having said that though, All the GPS devices do not always know the absolute fastest way to get were they're going - There's one route I often travel to work and the Nuvi suggests a more circuitous route so I just ignore it when I know a good route from experience. But here's the great thing - I was on a job in Pittsburgh PA and a week later I was in Washington State. I brought Nuvi with me and it directed me to all my locations with 100% accuracy. It is so easy to use that the other crew members starting using it on also. Even though it's small, it displays all the information you need. I've started to use it more and more and am really surprised at how many stores, restaurants, gas stations, ect.. are stored in the unit. The more I learn how to use the Nuvi, the more useful it becomes. You can find pretty much any location once you learn all the nuances of the unit. It was a while before I figured out two huge helpful options the unit has. You can enter cross streets if you don't have a house number and, If you want to find a store in a place your traveling to, you hit the "near" button, enter the city and then "spell" the name and Nuvi always finds it. I used it to fine the REI store in Seattle and it worked perfectly, not to mention pretty much any starbucks in the country. The rubber suction mount works great. Just make sure you clean the window and maybe moisten the rubber just a little. The image is always bright and clear even in the brightest sun. And it runs for about 40 min to an hour on its own internal battery. I turned it on in the plane and it worked-
It told me I was flying over lake Huron at 450 miles and hour - fun.. Anyway - love the unit, got one for my wife - now she's more adventurous and more inclined to go to places she might have been a little shy navigating herself.

This is one fantastic machine. It is so intuitive that you could actually get along without a manual. You tell it where you want to go and it will lead you there. If you take a different route it will refigure the new route in a matter of seconds. Be prepared for some surprises as it will do things that will make you ask "how did it do that?" Not only does it map your way for you it also saves and plays MP3s, pictures, recorded books, etc. It also has a currancy and measurement converter and a calculator. I has a slot for a secure digital media card. I can't say enough for this machine. Very seldom does a device come along that does everything so well. This is a sweet GPS!

Generally a really easy to use and great functioning product. Right out of the box everything was easy to learn and pick up.

What I like:
a. It works like it's supposed to.
b. Gets me where I'm going.
c. Knows about routes I didn't know about.
d. Great pronunciation (uses a well-known Nuance voice)
e. Very light and easy to carry


What could be better:
a. I drive faster than most, and it's a little slow telling me to turn. It could be better at seeing speed and giving turn indication sooner. Or if it had a setting to give indications sooner.
b. On routes I know well, it doesn't always pick the best way. But this is really minor if you think about it, because you don't get this to help you on routes you already know. However, again, I understand it's algorithm and the reason it doesn't always choose the best is because it chooses the most direct. The reason this isn't the fastest is because there are more stoplights on the direct routes, rather than the routes I take (which have more side streets but are faster due to fewer stoplights).
c. battery life could be better

Overall very happy with the performance of this product. Would definitely recommend it.

I am a first time owner of a GPS system, so I can't really compare it with other systems. I've owned it about a month and have gone on 3 200+ mile drive trips. I was amazed at how much stress it takes away from driving, knowing exactly where you are and how much longer until your next turn and destination.

The Nuvi 350 locks on to satellites very quickly. There were complaints of it "crashing/locking up" when entering a tunnel, this must have been fixed with the software updates because this was not an issue for me. The option to search by coordinates has also been added with the current software update. Points of interest are very useful and everything I've searched for has been there (I live in California).

I would recommend this product to anyone interested in a hand held GPS unit.

For those of you that are shopping around and not sure which GPS to get, go with the Garmin Nuvi 350. I brought it on a business trip and it paid for itself in one week. This was my first time travelling to Atlanta and with the Nuvi, it felt like I'd been there 10 times. First of all, the Nuvi is much smaller than the Roadmate so I could travel with it. I pre-programmed my destinations in as favorites before I left NY. All I did when I got down there was attach it to the windshield, select my location and listened to "Jill" guide me to my destination. I've recommended it to family and friends. I absolutely love my Nuvi, however when I tried to load MP3's into it I could not get them to load. No technical support available. I'm not extremely computer savvy but I think some instruction on it's features would be most helpful. It's manual is very vague. If anybody knows how to do this function I would love to hear from you, as I'm still waiting to hear back from Garmin. The satellite's are excellent, I am no longer geographically challenged. Now I'm not afraid to venture too far from home.

I have had a Nuvi 350 since September. After a few weeks it had to be returned to Garmin for repair. At the time I did not know but Garmin sends back a refurbished unit. So I pay for a new unit but now own a refurbished one that I could have probably paid half the price for. Anyway the refurbished unit is also defective and has to be returrned to Garmin for another refurbished one. This would be unaccepable for any other product line (imagine buying a HDTV and after one month having it replaced with a refurbished one). Garmin was not understanding or sympathetic to this inequity (afterall it si their policy - so that makes it OK). So for three months I have had two defective units (Garmin has had them for several weeks as well). Obviously I would never buy from Garmin again. I am stuck in this situation but not happy about it. I can only hope the next refurbished unit works.

I bought my Nuvi 350 on Amazon a year and a half ago and I am sorry to say it has been a disappointment. There are many good things about it, most of which have been documented in other reviews. The interface is mostly very clear and intuitive (with some exceptions as stated below). The navigational voice commands are great and normally very loud and clear. The small, flat form factor allows you to remove the unit from the car and carry it in your pocket, which is a big plus around here (and almost everywhere, I hear) because GPS units are big car burglar magnets. But now for the problems.

1) It won't mount on my windshield or my dashboard. I tried using the windshield mount and had great trouble getting the mount to stick to the glass and great trouble getting the unit to attach in the mount. Windshield mounts are illegal in California, but I was willing to risk a ticket. As it turned out, it didn't matter, because this unit cannot be used on the windshield anyway. During daylight hours the unit display is not bright enough even at maximum brightness to be legible against the bright daylight of the background. You can only see the images well if it has a fairly dark background. It needs to be down where an in-dash unit would be.

2) More mounting problems. Also, even when I got the unit to stick to the windshield finally (a 10-minute operation at the beginning of every trip) and went driving, the unit flew off the windshield when I went around a curve at relatively high speed because of suction cup failure. The unit smashed against the passenger door. No harm to the unit so far as I could tell, but that was the last time I tried to mount it on the windshield. I could not mount it on the top of my dashboard because I have a curvy textured dash with a stereo speaker right in the middle where most people would mount the unit. The bottom line is I have never been able to mount the unit anywhere. I usually just lay it on the passenger seat, where sometimes it flies off going around a curve, but I have learned to prop it with towels, etc. If my wife is riding with me she holds it in her lap and operates the touchscreen if I tell her how but she is mystified by the unit and I have to remember all the menus, etc. because I can't see the screen while driving, and I usually can't recall exactly where or what she has to press to get what I need. Sometimes I put it up in the moonroof, pinned there by the sliding panel that blocks the sun. The antenna flap serves perfectly to keep it from falling, and this also allows me to use the cable to power from the socket in the back of the center console without getting in my way. The voice is very audible in my right ear, but of course I can't see or touch the screen when it is in this position.

3) The cable connecting it to the car's power doesn't work well. Most of the time I am unable to get the unit to recognize the car's power source, no matter how I adjust the plug in the socket. Sometimes this isn't evident and I leave the unit on while driving and all of a sudden the battery dies because I didn't know I was on battery power. This may be due to some problem with the power sockets, I suppose, but the unit should have a battery that lasts all day anyway. There are times when I use it as a pedestrian, such as walking around a downtown area I don't know, or touring my daughter's college campus and need battery power for an extended time. The unit has died during critical times because of this. For these three reasons alone I have taken to using my handheld geocaching GPS unit (Garmin 60Cx) for driving, which, by the way, is great (and costs about half as much and lasts for days on two AA batteries). It doesn't have the voice commands but is superior in every other way as a navigational unit. If I had bought that first I would never have gotten the Nuvi.

4) Beware of the street names. Having street names called out is great most of the time, but often it calls out the wrong name, i.e. a name different from what is on the highway sign. Once it told me to exit at City Center Way, and started beeping at me. I didn't see a sign for that and knew that I was in an area with several exits close together, so I drove past the one labeled Foster City Blvd looking for City Center. Big mistake. Foster City Blvd turned out to be the intended exit and it was the last exit before a 10-mile toll bridge, so I ended up having to drive across the bridge, turn around and come back, paying a big toll and losing half an hour plus gas. The street it named was a small linking street, not the main drag. The unit uses a map database, not a street sign database, so you can't trust what it says to coincide with the signs.

5) I often use coordinates rather than street addresses, such as picnic areas at parks, and it will not route me to the correct location, which should be the entrance to the park or the parking lot. Instead it will just route me to the nearest point on any street, which could be across a river, freeway, or other barrier so I am on my own trying to find a way around. Also, there is no documentation as to how to enter coordinates into the unit from the touchscreen. There is a way, but it is very difficult to find since it's not in the manual. I had been doing it from MapSource, but that was a pain and couldn't be done on the road if you get new coordinates while out and around.

6) Unit dies. Twice now while I was using the unit the screen suddenly went whitish-gray and locks up. This is not a power failure or dead battery. The unit had power and was putting out light. It wouldn't respond to either the on/off switch or the touchscreen. Both times it left me stranded in strange cities while driving. The only way I found to fix it was to let the battery die (taking hours), then recharge it (taking more hours) then turning it on. After describing this problem to a Garmin service rep she said she had never heard of it and had me go through 45 minutes of restoring my unit to factory settings, reloading the operating system upgrade, waiting on hold for her to talk to her boss, etc. At the end of the call with no real satisfaction just as we were saying goodbye she asked "You did try the reset button didn't you?" I didn't know there was a reset button! It is hidden under the antenna flap and looks like a tiny hinge screw. I don't know if this would fix the problem but it would have been nice if she mentioned it earlier. As it is now, I don't trust the unit to stay on or work right, so I have to carry the 60Cx everywhere I want GPS navigation.

7) Some screens are non-intuitive and it needs more buttons (either physical ones like the handheld units or soft ones on the touchscreen). Unless you have memorized the manual and explored all the screens, including undocumented features, and use the unit every day, you will not be able to figure out how to get to various things you want to access because there is nothing on the screen to tell you how to do it. For example, switching from map view to text directions or changing the volume of the speaker. If you pull the car over and fiddle with it long enough you can get there, but too often you can't do it in time when you really need it.

The bottom line is it's great when it works right but it is unreliable in a number of ways. You are better off buying a handheld unit like the 60Cx.

Having seen and read about so many GPS systems, I can honestly say that this little Garmin Nuvi is the best GPS you can buy. And it is on the bleeding edge of technology so forget about it getting outmoded anytime soon... trust me!! You can't get lost with this little guy. I use it in my car and on my motorcycle. In fact, I just put it in my motorcycle jacket pocket, plug an earbud headphone into it, and it gets me where I need to go. The ONLY minor thing that could be improved is the way that the voice pronounces some of the road names. But I can always make out what the voice says. Oh, and if this thing was water-proof, then I wouldn't need to worry about putting it in a waterproof case when riding my motorcycle. I spent a couple hours surfing the net to find the lowest price and Amazon.com beat all the prices hands down. Amazon shipped this thing in a large box with plenty of those air-bags around it for protection when shipping. I couldn't be happier! Go Garmin! Go Amazon.com.

This is my first GPS and I am thoroughly impressed at the capabilities of the Nuvi 350. I spent a significant amount of time researching the different tools before I settled on this one. It is extremely easy to use and has an amazing database of map & points of interest information - more than I expected. I haven't yet taken full advantage of it's MP3, audiobooks, picture viewing capabilities, etc. as I was most interested in the GPS aspects of the product. It is very reliable. I would highly recommend it.

The GPS works great for giving directions. It is awesome for help on trying to find a restaurant, hotel, or other places that you need to find. I used it on a road trip from DC to Canada and it did a superb job. The only problem I had with it was that it occasionally had trouble finding the satellite signal when it was turned on. This seemed to be a flaw because simply turning it on and off a few times would fix it.

I really love this product. I've been using it daily for about 7 months. I use it in my car as well as on my motorcycle and it is great for both. I find it easy to use and it gives great directions, especially compared to a Magellan model I owned before it. It will allow you to avoid certain conditions like toll roads, expressways, gravel roads, etc and you can have it plan the shortest route or fastest route. It had a vast selection of pre-programmed points of interest complete with phone numbers. Just last week I used this to find a restaurant in an unfamiliar town and phone ahead to make sure they were open. The touch screen is bright and easy to read. The layout of the information is easy to understand while driving. The unit has been durable and reliable.

On the motorcycle it has been a life saver. I often take road trips on my bike to unfamiliar destinations and I have to stop for fuel every 150 miles or so. I put the Nuvi in my pocket with a pair of helmet speakers plugged into the headphone jack. I play MP3s at a safe volume to listen to while I ride and Nuvi will pause the music, give me verbal directions about an upcoming turn, and then resume the music. The built-in lithium ion battery will last about 4-5 hours playing music constantly or about 7-8 hours with no music playing. I like the ability to lock the touch screen so that I don't "plan" side trips while my pocket pokes at the screen :)

It looks like it can be setup for travelling on foot or off road as well as normal street use. I have used it in Washington DC on foot to help with finding subway stations and points of interest. Even when I was just walking around, if I got hungry I'd turn it on, pull up a list of restaurants in the area, touch the one on the list that sounded good, and it would direct me right to their front door. The point of interest list includes gas stations, banks, ATMs, parks, theaters, areana, police, hospital, restaurants (and it breaks them down by type if you want, ie deli, pizza, chinese, etc), and a TON more. In fact I've never been looking for a business that wasn't in the catalog. If you were need to go somewhere that isn't in the POI then you can type in the address and add it if you like. You can make a list of favorite points of interest and pull that up to quickly go to places you often visit, as if you really needed directions to get there :)

If I could make a suggestion for improvement, there is no way to download updates for map changes. I've used Microsoft streets and trips and you can download construction info to update the software. Lately there have been some new streets constructed around my home and they are not listed. In order to add new things to the map I have to wait for Garmin to release a new map set, which is not often (maybe yearly?) and is about $75 last I checked. The maps it has are modern but changes to streets that are made in the last few months aren't up to date in the Nuvi and there is no way to update them. I had the same problem with my Magellan and suspect that this is just how the GPS business works. None the less, I'd love to have a device that I could plug into a USB port and run an application to update all the stuff including the maps.

What to say more? If you don't own one, buy one now

I wait for over a year for the price to drop to about $400 and finally bought it. But after using it, I wish that I would have not been so thrifty and paid $600 for it a year before. Because it could have save me so much time and best of all, countless times of argument with my wife on the road ! Can't put a price on that. Now travel is so worry free. Once you get onto a highway, driving is really easy but for me the difficulty is to get the correct exists and to navigate in a strange town. And for that purposes, the nuvi does flawlessly. Maybe I was lucky but the Nuvi has never ever guided me on nonexistent roads. But it once in a while leads me to nonexistent stores or restaurants. This POI (point of interest) database fault and it is the same for every GPS out there (but the nuvi has the most POIs). So one advice: if you are in a new town, call the phone number of the POI address to verify the address before you go. But as long as you have a correct address, the nuvi will get you there.

Another comment on the suction mount: the mount is excellent, it is strong and easy to use. You do not need to buy any extra mount and you don't need the bean bag either. Some may not realize that to release the mount out, they need to pull the little clip on the side. And to lock the mount, you have to push the clip. The mount works really great and maybe Garmin should include some even easier/bigger instructions in the package (they already have a booklet, maybe some do not read the instruction carefully). Also, I find it is much better to mount it on the round plate (included in the box) instead of the wind shield: it does not block view much as mounting on the windshield and further, the suction is even stronger on the plate.

What I like: talking street name (a must), large POIs, clean user interface.

What I think can be improved: announcement of turning a little bit earlier.

Tips: you can implement the new feature "where's my car, dude?" as in the newer nuvi 7xx by saving the location of the garage/car when you get out as a favorite location (save this location).

Another tip is that you can dim the screen in normal mode to save power so the battery lasts longer.

There are not many electronic products out there that make me as happy as the nuvi. I bought a flat TV and it is only an enhancement over my existing TV. Or my newer cellphone is an enhancement of the old one. But the nuvi gives a completely different usefulness that I don't have before when I travel. Strongly recommend if you don't have one.

During our first few test trips around NYC where we knew the fastest route, the GPS would consistently refuse to send us on toll bridges and expressways. At one point it was giving a 4 hour estimate for a 20 minute journey into NJ.

It didn't matter what combination of "avoidances" we chose. After nearly throwing it off the GW Bridge one night when we genuinely needed its help (as it whined, wrongly, that there was a more optimal route), I called Garmin to complain.

They had me check all the settings and were stumped, but finally guided me through a hidden power-on sequence that would completely reset the unit. Hey presto, it "found" all the toll bridges and expressways.

That out-of-box non-obvious malfunction docks it 2 stars. It loses another for its sluggishness (takes several minutes to find satellites when first powered on), and its occasionally ambiguous user interface when you are trying to make route changes.

It might be fine for open-road driving, but in the city it doesn't always react quick enough to put you in the correct lane. I wouldn't rely on it completely blind, without some general idea where you are going. There's no substitute for a good map and paying attention to signs!

The Nuvi is crammed with features. Some of them are just overkill.

The unit can be loaded with MP3s, but it has just a mono speaker.

The software doesn't always know the best route. I will set it for places that I know how to get there and it will sometimes route me a bad way (through traffic, etc.)

I do like the size of it. If you're worried about theft, it easily fits in the glovebox, center console, etc. to get it out of view.

I wish Garmin would update the POI database. My unit doesn't know about a Target store that has been open for a couple of years. It lists a K-Mart that was closed and is now yet another Target.

I had previously bought a Magellan 700. I had to return it (thank you Amazon for taking it back) because I drove a few hundred miles and the unit still insisted I was in the parking lot of a store. At gas prices today, getting lost is expensive! I don't drive enough for the Nuvi to pay for itself, but it's still worth every penny.

This little device is probably the best little gadget I have ever owned. I travel extensively and was often unsure of exactly where hotels and such were located at unfamiliar locations. NUVI has most hotels, bars and restaurants pre-loaded so all it takes is the push of a button. If not pre-loaded just type in the address. Although many other units have the same technology as NUVI its compact size allows me to carry it in my pocket and switch to "off road" mode. I purchased the optional CD card for the United Kingdom and carry NUVI through the streets of London and it takes me to wherever I desire.

I had this 350 up and running 10 minutes out of the box. The instructions are simple the operation and set up are just as simple.
What you get for the money is the best GPS around. Touch screen operation, color display and ease of use. You an put future destinations into your "favorites" so they are there when you want them. It takes about one minute to preprogram an address.
I love the "food" display, on the road and hungry, just push food and it shows all the restarants in the area. Push the botton and you have directions to that restatant.

You can't go wrong with this one. The hardest part is naming the voice.

My first GPS system was an optional factory installed accessory. It cost me $3,000.00. It gave directions well but was somewhat slow and inaccurate in problem areas. I have residences in Manhattan and New Jersey. My system worked better in New Jersey than Manhattan. With this experience in mind, I was pleasantly surprised with the Garvin Nuvi 350. Not only was the price a fraction of my original GPS system, it allowed me to interface with my computer, have a MP3 player, and photo viewer.. Comparing it to my first GPS system is like comparing the Wright Brothers first airplane to today's supersonic jet concord. My biggest thrill was taking it on a trip to Europe. I visited Germany, France and Italy (with the optional accessory.) I was no longer at the mercy of strangers for directions as the system worked perfectly. I can not stress enough the convenience of being able to use useful phrases, convert currencies and know the proper time in all three countries with the help of my Garvin GPS system. A great plus was being able to find locations of the best local restaurants and places of entertainment not frequented by most tourists. One word of advice, this system is designed to complement; not replace your ability to reason , think and make independent choices (Personally, I use my wife for that!) Since I travel a lot and have to constantly rent cars; my toothbrush is no longer the first thing I pack -it's my Garvin Nuvi 350!

The interface is very easy to understand. One can pretty much navigate without looking over the instruction (the manual is on-line). The sound is pretty clear and crisp even though it's such a small unit. One feature I like about this product over the TomTom is it speaks the street names so you know exactly where you are supposed to turn.

What I dislike about it is when the GPS reception is bad, it loses the entire direction. And you pretty much have to remember what it told you earlier and hope for the reception to get better. It gets extremely confused when you are at locations where there are bridges crossing overhead and underneath (on I-95 by the George Washington Bridge). Even though you are following the direction, it keeps recalculating and telling you to exit and return. I guess the GPS can't be blame when the roads are so condensed.

I definitely recommend this item. Just make sure the unit you are buying has the latest version of maps loaded.

My wife and I love our Garmin Nuvi 350. Much better than the Magellan system I had been used to driving Hertz rental cars. The compact size is convenient and the best feature that is unique from othe products is that it will announce the street NAMES instead of "Turn right in 500 ft." It even pronounces the tricky names around Boston. You can also customize the names of your favorite locations. Another neat feature is that we have downloaded our favorite MP3s off I-Tunes and it will play the music then dim down when "the bitch" needs to direct.

This tool has been a savior in navigating the tough streets of Boston!

Well design, very users friendly, accurate, well about 97% of the time, compact for hand held use, sturdy windshield mount, battery charge last for appox close to 6 hrs, Cons?? well, price lil expensive, but for me its worth it. Could easily drop due to being compact, I dropped it allready luckly didnt do any damage, just careful. hmmm no really big con. I love this navigation, and I think you will like it too. Just look what others say. Advice, SEARCH ONLINE FOR PRICE. Get it now!

OK, this unit is everything I had expected and the precision and help while driving is amazing. Accuracy is often within 10 or 20 feet as you're approaching intersections and trying to guess what the next move is. The multiple options for information is wonderful. A woman tells me what to do, a screen illustrates it, and the next move is also indicated. So, in those horribly complex interchanges where you exit, veer left, veer right, and so on...I was so pleased with the timing of when the instructions would be spoken. The timing is amazingly helpful. In those situations even taking your eyes off the road for a second could be dangerous. But Judy (Judy Garmin is what my wife calls her) tells you where to turn, veer, etc.

For my whole life I seldom felt the need to get directions, often not even using a map. My eyes, and instincts served me well for yesars. And, I do not have extensive experience with GPS units. I'm not techy. But I've rented cars and had the GPS unit rented as well. The help it provided was always much appreciated and a huge timesaver. So, why pay $10.95 per day to rent one when I could just have my own.

Why didn't I do this years ago?! The added safety factor for driving is uncalculable. I regret not getting one years ago. We won't leave home without it any more.

The 350 is a perfect blend of details and simplicity. I just recently recieved a brand new 770 unit as a Christmas gift. Top of the line, with every bell and whistle. Very nice. Wide screen. Guess what? I hate to say it but I actually prefer the 350! The 350 has the best blend of tech and practiality.

My wife is very poor with electronics. Three times now she's traveled with Judy Garmin (350) in her rental car. Each time she found it helped immensely. She loves it. While touring her parents home town with her sister, her sister decided she had to have her own Judy Garmin too--the utilitarian helpfulness was wonderful. Travel with Judy and you get spoiled.

Spoiled? Yes, and it the one negative I've found. Once you get used to driving with Judy...its tough to drive alone ever again! You become so dependent on her helful voice warning you, "in 1.2 miles take the Jones Street exit, on right, then veer left". I'm sold! This summer I'm going to really enjoy driving in Europe...find the hotel? No problem!!

I've never used a GPS before so if you are clueless as I was when picking one out - this one is an excellent choice. Couldn't be much easier - works right out of the box. Nice voices to choose from - I chose the British dude, and named him Geoff. Geoff really knows his way around and hasn't steered me wrong yet. Bright screen, easy to read. I can get lost in my driveway so this little device is a godsend. The suction cup mount for your windshield really sticks - no worries about it falling off, its on there. Simply put - I Love this thing. Highly recommended.

This unit was worth the money. I had to buy a second one because I couldn't get the first one away from my husband, who is very technically challenged. Even HE can operate it! We are looking forward to using the Nuvi 350 on vacation.

The only negative (and its a big one) is that it doesn't seem to have very recent data. If I were in a strange area, I would never count on it to select a restaurant, because it still has restaurants in our city that have been closed for years. Interestingly enough though, it also has the NEW restaurants at the exact same addresses as the defunct ones! Yet some restaurants that were built several years ago aren't there at all.

Because our business is housing related, we mostly use it to find residential addresses. It seems that streets in the newer developments (1 or 2 yrs old) are usually unknown to the Garmin. Also, there is a road in our city that was built over 3 years ago. It is a road that connects 2 thoroughfares. Garmin still doesn't know its there. I was hoping to find a way to report these updates to Garmin, but couldn't find anything on their website. It might be there, I just haven't found it yet. I'm hoping that as time goes by, Garmin will find a more timely way to update their data.

One thing that we find humorous is the Garmin's voice. If we don't follow "her" route, she says "re-calculating" and almost sounds P*%^ed off that we didn't follow her directions. It makes us laugh. We also like the way it calculates your ETA, and its very accurate.

All in all, this is a good unit. As long as your major need isn't to find new homes, you can't beat this one for the money.

The first 350 arrived and was unable to locate any satellites- just perpetual searching. NOT encouraging. The replacement locked onto satellites in 10 seconds or less and has worked quite well so far. It does seem as if the cross streets and turn info are just a bit "late"... like I'm usually at or past the intersection while the screen is still showing it just ahead- but beyond that I've had no complaints. Let's HOPE that the 2nd one is reliable.

In early July, my brother and I used the nüvi 350 to drive from Indiana to California, and it worked very well. It was a snap to mount and use, and it gave near-perfect directions all the way (I say "near perfect", because there was a stretch of new road construction in San Diego it didn't recognize, but it still kept us from getting lost). Having it onboard provides a sense of security knowing you can find the nearest gas station (very handy in states like Nevada and Nebraska where gas stations can be pretty sparse), as well as food and lodging along the way, let alone just getting to where you need to go.

I bought one for myself, as (quite honestly) I am pretty clueless when it comes to directions. Just make sure you have the right address selected, and leave the rest to the nüvi. Software updates from Garmin are pretty frequent, and hopefully more functionality and improvements will be added to stay competitive and keep Garmin's user base as strong as it appears to be.

My wife and I took a trip from Los Angeles to Stockton to see friends. We rented a Ford Taurus from Hertz which had a Magellan "NeverLost" GPS unit in it. This was our first experience with GPS, and we loved it! We would have gotten good and lost up in Monterey, but the unit knew every back alley and byway and got us back on track. We were so stoked about it that we decided to buy a Magellan of some sort through Amazon when we got back home.

Then we started looking at the NEGATIVE REVIEWS for Magellan tech support. Long story short, that was the deal breaker. So then we started doing research and discovered that Garmin has totally reliable tech support, just the opposite from Magellan. I'll not elaborate; there are plenty of horror stories here!

We've now had the personal experience to say: Garmin tech support is top-notch! They sent me a defective unit. I called them. LSS: I returned it, they mailed me another, no problems. Very helpful, stayed on the phone as long as necessary, never losing patience. My wife bought one (we both bought nuvi 350s). When she went to register it online she discovered that she'd mislaid the registration number that came with the unit. She called Garmin, and they gave her an easy workaround that allowed her to register it. Totally helpful, totally courteous and *speedy.* And, the product works great!

One thing: if you're in America, and especially in areas with a lot of Spanish street names, *don't* choose the British English voices, they MANGLE the names! :-)

I am so glad to get this GPS and so does my wife. I always get lost everywhere I go and have no sense of direction. With is nuvi GPS, it's small enough to carry and have big screen. I highly recommend this to any one who tend to get lost on the road.

Bought this unit two weeks ago; been testing it against routes I'm familiar with, and it's performed excellently. With exception of not recognizing some construction which changed a street location, it has been perfect. Also got me out of the city using a direct route that I would not have thought of on my own. The user guide (online)is helpful in setting up the unit and learning what the different icons mean: e.g. you can ask it to NOT do U-turns if you know where to change that function. Keeps good battery charge. If to do over again, would definitely buy the NUVI 350 again.

I recently purchased the nuvi and based on all the positive reviews couldn't wait to get it out of the box. This is one slick little device (GPS, MP3 and Audiobook player, Translator, phone book style business listings, etc...). Having used the Hertz NeverLost system for many years it took a short while to adjust to the nuvi's navigation system and voice prompts. So far, I've found the nuvi to be very accurate and fast on calculating route deviations. The yellow pages info is excellent and current. I haven't downloaded any updates yet so no comment on how well they maintain the content. My only negatives so far is the lack of a hard copy manual and battery life. The battery only lasted a few hours in navigation mode on my first charge. Hopefully, that will improve after some battery conditioning. If not, I guess that's why it comes with a car dc adapter.;-) Looking forward to my first trip to unfamiliar turf.

I have no sense of direction and this device works wonders for me. The benefits are that you can go to any town in America and find a restaurant, grocery store or whatever and it'll take you directly there. It also provides a phone number so you can make sure the place is open or still in business.
My only minor beefs with this are:
1. Processing time: Sometimes when you are in a search, it can take several minutes. It only really happens after you scroll to the second or third page of results. Say, for instance, you want a restaurant and you don't like the first few pages of results, you will probably get an indicator showing it is processing. I've waited at least a couple minutes before I tried another search.
2. My house address shows up on the other end of my street on GPS for some reason, so for some reason, it never takes me home. I don't know if there's a way to correct a wrong address in here. I wonder how often the GPS database is wrong.
3. You can choose between fastest route, and shortest route. Sometimes the fastest route will circle your address (I went at least two miles longer this way) to obtain the higher speed limit road and the shortest route will take you through a neighborhood. This isn't a bad thing at all, just I guess I'd like a shortest route that doesn't take you through neighborhoods I guess.
I did briefly mess with an off brand one at Radio shack and I didn't see much of a difference for my purposes. This device dropped by about 70 bucks since I got it, and it's definitely worth it when you visit new towns.

Truly enjoy this GPS unit, easy to use and well made. However, I would not buy from Amazon again as the units they sell have maps that are TWO years out of date despite assurances to the contrary on the web site. When contacted about this Amazon states the only recourse is to send the item back.

After reviewing the comments made by others I opted for this unit. I'm sure that I will be happy with it. It was easy to set up and the portability is a major plus. However...I purchased the unit a few days ago (March 08) and it came with 2006 maps. Hopefully I can sort this out with Garmin?

My wife and I used the 350 and the Germany/Czech Republic mapset during our two week vacation in Germany. Finding some of the locations we went to via a map or directions would have been much much more difficult.

There were times it told me that the location was on the left when it was actually on the right, and vice versa. Also, once or twice it did get a little turned around when close to the location, but that was taken care of by drivig around the block and looking again.

Once the unit hung, and I had to perform a hard reset, and sometimes it takes a little more than a minute to get a lock on the satellites.

But this little beauty really made our driving much more enjoyable. Just kick back, and let it tell you when you need to turn.

This is my second portable GPS.

I had the Street Pilot III for a few years and got the Nuvi last month.

What a difference! Getting satelite reception and recalculate route is ten times faster.

Its light and the battery last a few hours. I'm happy with it.

I bought mine for the trip in a hurry and did not have time to read the manual and had been struggled a little bit during my five days trip, but after the trip, I have reviewed the manual and been familiar with it now and I love it.
Garmin should includes the manual in the package, since $600+ is a pretty good chunk of cash. I have to go online and print my and it take good 68 pages.
The bottom line is I won't get lost again!

The nuvi 350 works great. I was considering buying the nuvi 260, but decided on this older model because it allows me to play the voice directions via a cable to my car stereo...much clearer than the tiny speaker in the Garmin.

Garmin nüvi 350 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
On advice of 2 friends hwo owned a Garmin 350, I purchased one at a retail store last summer. When it was time to buy our boss a Xmas gift, the 3 of us were able to convine 8 others that this was the gift! Mine helps me immensely in my sales geography, and even locally at home. No more mapquest or asking directions--even for a holiday party in a new subdivision! Plus it's portable, so I was able to fly it with me to Boston and it found our way to my sisters' in rural NH, a town of 1100! Along the way, if we wanted to stop to shop or eat, it helped us find restaurants, stores, gas stations, hospitals...you name it, and with phone numbers too! Easy to use touch pad, ETA, even keeps track of your max. and avg speed, and your most recent selections. And at the end of the day, I simply tell "Emily" to "go home" and she gets me there from anywhere! Can't imagine how I lived without it!

Initially I was looking for a less expense model but reviews had comments like no support and maps were not accurate. I knew I didn't want that. Decided to spend another $200 and was very glad I did. The unit was easy to use right out of the box. It had everything I needed to mount in a vehicle. It fits in my shirt pocket which is something I was looking for. Although I have not order it yet I intend to purchase the bean bag vehicle mounting accessory so I can easily move it between vehicles. I was also impressed by the Garmin website.

Short story - BUY ONE. The Garmin 350 is the best. Easy to use, fast reliable directions and it announces the street name when your approaching a turn.

1. Easy to use - Do not need owners manual. Simply punch in address and gives reliable easy to follow directions.
2. Buttons easy to push with FAT fingers - I could not work the TOM TOM buttons neither could my smoking hot 48 year old wife.
3. Announces street names when approaching a turn. Do not discount this feature. The Garmin 350 and above have this feature. You do not need to take eyes off road to double check street name.
4. Very accurate and great graphics. Can tell the difference between my driveway and garage.
5. Easy to see in day time sunloading.
6. Plenty of volume (I have three boys under 13)
7. Sturdy vehicle mount. The suction cup mount is well engineered.
8. Has the "hole in the wall" local restaurants - WOW.
9. Automatically re calculates directions if I detour.
10. With a push of a button will give alternate route if traffic snarls.
11. The Garmin 350 comes with AC and vehicle charger and a leather case.

My husband and I are not technocrats, we are elderly. Frankly we were apprehsive about being able to use it...We received it, had a young friend go over it with us and believe me we were impressed. We used it on our latest trip to Tennessee, it was fantastic. We were given voice directions and reminded again when we got close to a turn or whatever. I would urge anyone to buy the Garmin Nuvi 350. The only suggestion I have would be to buy the friction mount rather than use the windshield mount that comes with it.

I purchased the Garmin 350 with text to speech and was very apprehensive that I would be satisfied with the technology. It ended up being the best purchase I made the entire year. The user interface is so easy even my eight year old has it mastered. I am on the road most of the day and travel in unfamiliar territory often. The Garmin has not let me down yet. Easy to see screen, volume level and sound quality are beautiful, an enormous number of points of interest, and very affordable. Thank you Amazon for shipping it so quickly!!

I did quite a bit of research before purchasing the Garmin Nuvi 350. After receiving the 350, I can say this is truly an awesome gps unit. The 350 is quick to respond, easy to use, and accurate. The only drawbacks I see are the somewhat long startup time and the inability to add a detour ahead of time. You are only allowed to detour a route as you are coming to it. Aside from this, I think the Nuvi 350 is great and would recommend it for anybody looking for a gps unit. Note: I do not use any of the other features (e.g., pictures, mp3, etc) so I have no comment on them.

Certain things I am good at, but directions is not one. After purchasing this wonderful item, I am now able to get and return from any location with ease. The sound component is amazing. It's clear, easy to understand, and flags all important turns. In addition, it comes with a case that makes it easy to take with you or hide, so it won't tempt someone to steal it. With the Garmin nuvi 350 in my car, I am no longer anxious about taking trips to unknown destinations.

not only is this thing great visualy, it tells you which street to turn on. some times you dont have to look at the screen because it will tell you when to turn and remind you when your there. if you take a wrong turn the system will re calculate and give you new directions from where you made the mistake. i used it in a rental on vacation, and i felt like i knew where i was going all the time. it never got me lost. also has a look up guide for food fun and shopping when your new to an area its a HUGE help!!!!

The nuvi 350 is probably the best and easiest GPS that I have yet to use. The voice prompts that actually say the name of the road you're looking for, allows you to keep your eyes on the road more and off of the screen. The detour function is definitely a plus, though it would be nice if you could set it up to avoid taking you down certain roads as much as possible, if you happen to know they aren't the best way to go, or if you're more comfortable going a different way (for example, all travel system I've used direct me to get off our main interstate, get onto the business loop, just to get back onto the main interstate 10 miles later). The only real issue that I've had with the product is with the suction cup that holds the system on your windshield; it is incredibly hard to remove, and I have to try to slide one of my "frequent buyer" keychain cards under it to get it loose from the windshield. Otherwise, this is one of the best products to go with.

This was recommended by a friend and it continues to be a life saver. I've been in several states and it cut my travel time down and got me to places I would have never found with a map. The shopping and food features are great. I've only experienced some problems when exits and overpasses are close together like in Boston and NYC. There are also some issues with searching for locations by the names of well established locations, but if you have the address you are set.
Amazon also has the best price.

I absolutely love this GPS. When I decided to get a GPS, i purchased one from a well known electronic store. I realized afterwards that it didnt have as many navigational features as this Garmin 350. Its so easy to use. My 9 yr old sets it for me sometimes.

I've had my Nuvi 350 for over a year now and liked it so much that I bought another one for a friend as a gift.

br /I travel frequently with my job and quickly found it indispensable for finding my way around the different cities I find myself in each week. I typically just pack the unit in it's leather case along with the car adapter in my carry on bag and I'm set.

br /Once in a new city the unit usually needs a couple of minutes with a view of the sky to find itself again and your good to go. Subsequent power ups in the same city usually just take about 15 seconds. The unit has excelent signal sensitivty and I find I can typically just leave it down on the front of the center console in the car and it works just fine.

br /The user interface is very intuitive and user friendly, most new users will find themselves quite adept at using it in no time. Once a destination has been selected the directions are calculated in just a few seconds, directions, turns and street names are then spoken clearly to you by the unit, you are given 3 warnings of each approaching turn, starting about 30 seconds prior. If you miss the turn the unit quickly recalculates the route in about 3 or 4 seconds. Each selected destination is saved in a short term memory or you can list it as a "favorite" so you can easily return to it at a later time.

br /The 350 can now be found for less than $165 and as such is one of the best values for the money in portable GPS.

I have had this for about 4 months and it works really well. I am on the road a lot and this device has improved my quality of life greatly. Definitely beats having to print out maps, then losing your way without knowing how to get back. With this product, all that anxiety is removed. It is also great for finding restaurants while on the road. I bought this based on the sheer number of reviews on Amazon and I am very satisfied. Recently, Consumer Reports rated GPSs and recommend Nuvi 255 or 255W in the same price range. If I were to buy today, I would buy the 255.

I purchased 2 of these. I gave one to my father. I use mine for Field Service repair, so I am always in the car. I purchased this based on Garmin's reputation, as well as friends' recommendations. My one friend has purchased a ton of Garmin products, and swore by it.

The original unit I purchased in June 2007, worked flawlessly for about 2 months. Then started having trouble locating satellites. It would take about 45 minutes to 1 hours to aquire. Whether standstill, or driving. Once aquired, it would lose the link a couple dozen times per day. This was in the same spot on the winshield. All this with sunny, open country driving. After calling Garmin and trying a couple resets, I mailed it to them. A week later, they sent a different unit.

The second unit started the same way. Worked flawlessly for a couple months. Then I started having the same exact problems as the first unit. Progressively, it got worse. I then decided to relocate the position, on the windshield. No change. Yesterday, I had no reception on my way to Baltimore. I was in Sunny, open country driving. While lost in Baltimore and unable lock on satellites, I finally decided to pull over and stick the damn thing out the window. It still took a long time to get the satellites. Once it did, I put it back inside the car, and it proceded to lose link a couple dozen times. Today, it did it again, in Sellerville PA, causing me to be 1/2 late to a site. I was literally driving in circles.

My father's is still fine. My 4 friends who al have Nuvis, have no problem. Me, I am fed up. I am going to try an external antenna. If that don't work, I am done with Garmin.

What I don't understand is, it worked fine for a couple months on both units. Nothing changed.Then, it just craps out. It can't be me, the position, or the car.

Simple as that. It will not accept inputs to the "Enter address" option. It hangs up at street number and won't allow me to go further. Contacting Garmin is a nightmare of web inputs and when I call service (Dec 24th) there's no answer on the web-listed 971 number and the 800 number is "out of the holidays." I suspect it has a bad software module, but I suspect it will take me more labor-hours to reach these people than the unit is worth.

I am disappointed with my GPS. It didn't live up to my expectations based on the numerous reviews I've read. My gadget is always late on it's navigation instructions! Is there a way to speed this up?

After 2 years, it will not pickup the satelites. Called Garmin, after trying to reset it they said to send it back for a $200 repair charge. A new one is only $160 on Amazon.

br /PRO: Like the text to speech detailed maps. Easy to use. Battery life fair about 3 hours. Nice features display. It can be set to signal just before it speaks to get your attention. Also, the directions are posted at the top of screen in case you miss the annoucements. We have learned to not rely on just one part of the communications. Sometimes, it tells you to turn but the map arrow shows go straight.

br /CON: Sometimes it will get you there BUT in a round about way. Once it had us turn a block before the resturant go around the block to enter from the rear. There was a traffic light with a left turn signal directly in front of the resturant.
br /Text to Speech often gives you the street name BUT at the location there are only route numbers or vice-verse gives route number only street name is posted.
br /Once in Miami, the battery ran low without warning the screen went black. Connecting the car charger to the unit did not bring it back to life. We had to charge it overnight. Scarely part is this was our first trip to Miami we were depending on the GPS to get us back to the hotel. The "Recalculating" message given every time you do not follow its instructions will drive you crazy. I wish there was an option to turn it OFF.

I have used a GPS from a different brand and when it broke I figured I'd try a Nuvi. First of all, the window mount is a real hassle. I never had issues with the other GPS, but every time I go to set up the suction mount I have trouble.

There was also the time (after using it for around a month) I had it just setting on the dash board. I don't know if the vibration from the car caused it or what, but it just shut off. I was about 20 miles away from a Doctor that I have never been to in the Big City. Anyhow, I tried to turn it on and I couldn't get it to turn on for anything. It wasn't a battery issue because I charged it before I left. I tried plugging it into the charger and still, no luck! I ended up researching on line the next day to find out about the "reset button" on the back of the Nuvi. It works now, and I know how to get it working again, but I was pretty miffed when I was stressing out and had to call my wife to get directions on the fly.

I love the portability of this unit. The text to speech is great. The satellite capture is fast, and works well in every vehicle I've tried, even inside the house. The off road option is nice for when one is deep inside a shopping mall or on streets to new for the maps. The option to use this as a pedestrian is really cool to. So a very feature laden device.

The bad is that in my own neighborhood, a major street that was completed 10 years ago is not listed, as are stores that have existed for 5 years. While I obviously don't need that much accuracy in my own neighborhood, I am concerned about what happens when I take it somewhere I am not familiar with.

Overall good value, but it could have been so much more.

Excellent product. Bought for my father-in-law who isn't very tech savvy. It only took him 5 minutes to set up and take a maiden voyage to Sacramento from Las Vegas. Went off route several times and the "e-voice" got him back on track without a hitch. If buying for myself would have bought the newer Nuvi with Bluetooth. But for the price ($[...] on the net) well worth the price. Came with everything you need for easy window install and automobile and home power adapters. Excellent screen resolution, readability and brightness even in sunlight. Voice was clear and easily understood even for an 86 year old. They also loved the ability to find the nearest Mac Ds and get back to the freeway.

Haven't tried other makes or models. But after reading reviews and researching extensively I knew this was the model that would suit me best. Easy to set-up and very user-friendly(don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out how to operate).

Garmin has done a great job with nuvi 350 but can do justice by lowering the price a bit. Avoidances feature does not work that well, lot of room for improvement in that area. Becasue of that, at times it fails to provide an alternate route. I got two routes from google maps but 350 kept showing me one route. Overall, it is a great product but improvement in rerouting feature will make it excellent and unbeatable. Hence four stars to nuvi 350.

I just received the GPS after reading some of the excellent reviews. To me, the unit is excellent in every way, except one. I rated the unit 4 stars because the address database does not delete obsolete addresses, so that you may travel to empty buildings and ghost locations where businesses once existed. When testing the unit out in our community, we selected four businesses to see how useful the Find function was; it got two right, but two others, "Waffle House" and "Home Depot", were at locations abandoned over 15 years ago. What really irritated me was that my place of business is listed wrong; the previous business that moved out over 20 years ago appears on the map instead of the actual, current business. It's ghost looms on my map as I travel to work.

I own a 360 and just bought my wife the 350 for her car. I have not owned any other brand, but the Magellan used by Hertz is terrible. Being in sales I find the Nuvi to be a MUST HAVE when ever I am in another city or need to find a gas station, restaurant, hotel or whatever quickly. I still use it when I am home but find that my old "trial and error" routes are better because the Nuvi only looks at distance from A to B.
I have not subscribed the the Traffic funtion so I cannot comment on that. Lastly, do not be surprised if some new destinations are not yet on the pre-loaded maps that come with the device. Overall, though this has been a fantastic purchase. Also, the Bluetooth function in the 360 is not worth the price so stick with the 350.

After many months of researching GPS devices I settled on the Garmin Nuvi 350 and am glad I did. The directions generated as well as the accuracy has been amazing. It does have a little trouble in downtown area's with large buildings. I have used it in both NYC and Chicago and find that if I start it before I enter these areas it is ok, but if I start it downtown it takes longer to pinpoint my location as well as getting confused while navigating a bit, but if you give it time it will lock on and generate an appropriate route. This has not deterred me from giving a 5 star rating as the rest of the time it performs marveously.
The screen is clearly visible in direct sunlight as well as at night, when the unit automatically switches to night mode. Text to speech is a must as well as easy search options for finding your location. I have yet to enter a POI that was not found by the unit. A great buy for the right price.

This unit is not that bad. I decided to get the 350 because of its high ratings on another website. Most of the people that did buy this were first-time owners of navigation systems. The user-interface is easy to operate, and maps/points are somewhat up to date, with the few exceptions of some known restaurants in my area that I've known to have at least been closed-down for almost a year now. Another cool feature about this unit is the choice of accent/language of voice navigation. The only time I had an issue was when I powered-up without first flipping-up the antenna. For some reason, it took more than 3 minutes to acquire satellites. That day, as I remember, also happen to be rain-cloud overcast. I've heard that foul weather can also affect for the unit to connect to an overhead satellite. Overall, the unit is great to operate, user-friendly interface, my only regrets is that I should of gotten one with a bigger, wider screen. That makes a whole lot difference.

I have a Magellan eXplorist I use for geocaching and navigation but the the long trip we were heading on included many unfamiliar spots so we bought this unit. I paid $355 and the prices are still going down. The cheapest I just saw was $299.99 at a big chain sporting goods store ad.

Overall I am very happy with the way the Nuvi navigated us around. It is easy to use and helpful to be able to find nearest gas stations or banks to get more gas money.

The battery with everything on full lasted about 4 hours. One time I let the battery run all the way down and it took a LONG time to recharge and would not boot up until then. I'm not sure if that is normal, maybe I just hooked it up wrong and it wasn't charging much of the time. The cord for the in car connection is fine but the connection to the device is awkward and when connected is hard to put anywhere but in the dash cradle.

I've had my Garmin nuvi 350 for a few months. I like it a lot. I have it mounted underneath my radio in a cubby hole (so thieves can't see it easily) and it gets perfect reception.I have the screen pointed up towards me and is easy to read. I like the way it powers up and down automatically. The voice for the most part is very easy to understand. The only things i don't like about it is you can't delete your favorite locations one by one and sometimes it calls streets by their county route number rather than by their common name on the street sign.

I've been waiting for technology to stave off a bit before buying a gps, so this is my first.

MEMORY CARD EXPANSION: I had bought a Tom Tom One, but immediately returned it because it didn't have an expansion memory card slot. This one does.

WEB SERVICES: Before returning the TomTom, though, I did log onto their website and it seemed like their web support/services was slightly better. But I had heard the Garmin worked better, so I returned to the plan to get a Garmin.

SCREEN SIZE: I considered the 200W, but this was on sale for the same price at the time, so I went with it. I don't mind the smaller screen, but I don't like the flip up antennae.

LOAD/START TIME: I also don't find it to load/start very quickly either. It often takes a minute before it 'finds' me, which is surprising given that we're in a fairly big city.

INSTRUCTIONS/UTILIZATION: The instruction manual certainly left something to be desired, but poking around is a better way to learn these things anyway. It's not too difficult to figure out, either. My 65 y.o. mother, (who is somewhat able to keep up with doing webmail and familiar computer programs), was able to use her Garmin on her own and straight away, with relatively little trouble.

ROUTING: Occasionally, like any mapping program, I wonder about the route choice. But overall, I love the convenience and not thinking about what happens if I end up taking a wrong turn.

SPEAKER: I'd agree with several other reviews, that the speaker in the back of the unit is silly. I keep mine on 75% of it's volume capacity and I hear fairly well.

MOUNT: The mount is ok, but I think they should package them with the beanbag type... or at least not charge $30 for the silly thing! Shocking.

CABLES: Came with power cables for home and car outlets, computer usb, and a tight leather carry case. Nice. Although, I would prefer a case that has room to store/carry a cord or two, as well.

Overall, great little gadget to have.

The machine is easy to use. The speed of routing calculation is great. Generally it's a great helper for a driver that doesn't care directions much like me.
I also notice some problems with the machine. It's very diffcult to use the machine at the downtown areas of large cities. I used it several times in downtown Chicago and the performance is generally disappointing. The satellite signals would easily get lost, I believe, due to high buildings around. With 2008 map installed, the machines give quite a lot of wrong instructions regarding many one-way streets. I made a wrong turn following the instruction and avoided several others. Either the city changes the one-way signals a lot or the map is simply unrealible in Chicago downtown.

I got a nuvi 350 a while back and was very impressed with it. I purchased this one for my wife and she loves the unit. I think Garmin is by far the best when it comes to GPS units. The only reason why I give it 4 stars is because of the maps. They could use more frequent updating. I know there is a Home Depot 6 miles from my house, but the unit tells me that the nearest one is 12 miles away. I got around this with the POI's which are very useful. I recommend this product without reservations.

We live in a small town in Iowa. My wife is a Home Health nurse and it gets her where she needs to be without a problem. This is our first unit and have not experienced other units but we are satisfied with it for the price. We never have a problem connecting with the satellites and always a strong signal. The only down side we can see is the Points of interest, lacking in being right with directions and leaving out ones that we know are closer, this not an important feature to us. We like that fact that it gives street names and not just left and right. Great unit

Easy to set up and use. Is great for finding locations around the city and metro area. I like the touch screen function that allows you to zoom out getting a bird's eye view of the area. Only complaint, not enough add on maps for this model. What's the use of having a memory slot with almost nothing to use it for!

In my opinion, this is the best GPS out there for the price. I use this to travel with my camper in tow. It has a handy setting for 'Truck' which will avoid the various roads that you are not allowed onto.
My original unit stopped working after 3 months; after a call to Garmin, I had a new model 2 days later.
I have also used this unit with a purchased card to travel around Ireland and it saved me there many times.

We decided that we would use our new GPS on a trip from NC to CO. We've taken this trip many times so knew the way, but thought it would be a good way to get used to our new toy. We stopped for the night and the next morning wondered if we should re-enter the address where we were going, but once we plugged it in, it took us right from the hotel to I-70 so figured all our information was still correct. Everything went great until we hit a detour off of I-70 near Kansas City. The GPS kept saying it was refiguring the route and we followed it's every direction. We were going down side streets, neighborhoods, and we were beginning to get a little upset. We got taken to a road and was told to take a right...we did, it then said to take the very next right, which was into a parking lot of an office building. My husband and I couldn't believe what it did, when my husband looked up and saw the name of the building....it was GARMIN! He said look at the GPS, and then I knew what he was talking about. It took us HOME....it's home in Lawrence, KS. We had a pretty good laugh, and once we reprogramed the unit we were taken back to I-70. We think that since we didn't reprogram the unit after our stop for the night the unit just decided we needed to go "home", it's "home". The detour off of I-70 is what threw us off. If we didn't have it, and it told us to exit we would have known the unit wasn't taking us where we wanted to go. We will know better the next trip we make. We have made "our" home it's new home. It works great, but think it would be nice to have a better manuel with it. We didn't want to print out the one online. Printer ink is very expensive. I think the company is pretty cheap to have not provided that item. 4 stars for that reason!

I bought this GPS mainly for business travel purpose so I won't get lost in a city I am not familiar with. So far I am very satisfied with it. The only complain I have now is the voice is not crystal clear.

I love it! Some of the roadways need updated, but other than that, it was easy to use and takes all the hassle out of driving. No more watching signs or estimating times. Garmin tells you everything you need to know while you are driving. I just wish I would have bought one years ago! By the way, Amazon had the best price (even beat Wal-Mart) and the shipping was fast!

I've owned a Garmin Nuvi 350 for two years, with one major software update, which I had to purchase at around $60. The software is exceptional, and verbal directions are timed well. Fantastic display and graphical layout. For fun I've even used it on airline flights and it showed correct location, altitude and speed.

The biggest annoyance with directions relates to when there is a freeway interchange, as the verbal commands tell you 'keep left on xxx' what it is really trying to inform you is 'Don't turn/exit here'. Annoying because the text display shows "TURN IN XXX MILES" but when you get to that point, there is no change in direction. I've merged over to the exit lanes many times and at the last second, it says 'keep left on xxx', which I was already established on. This also happens on rural roads, where there is a bend in the road, it tells you 'turn right' (for the curve).

There are some roads not found in the garman. Some roads were missnamed, but even with these faults, I have taken many trips out of state and to other places and it got me to were I was going. I would recommend this product.

This GPS is as advertised. Reliable and easy to use.The only thing I don't like is the out dated maping. It is great as a broad stroke instrument to get you where you are going, but if you are traveling in a relatively new development, it does not show the streets. I'm sure there is a way to update this, I just haven't explored it. Over all I love this thing.

I purchased this item after my wife bought the same for me six months earlier. After seeing mine, she had GPS-envy and wanted her own. This is a very good product. The only negatives are that it is difficult to acquire a signal in urban downtown settings, and there is a significant cost to updating the map software.

The only thing that bothered me when I gave it to him is that I had clicked on the wide screen GPS(because he is a trucker)and some how I didn't get that one. But my husband is very happy with it, I'm just not sure why the site navigated from the wide screen GPS. Now my husband can find his way around the Pacific Northwest with out having to call home for me to log onto mapqwest dot com.

I'm sure the Garmin 350 was fine, but we honestly never got to use it. I returned the unit, since my in-laws got us the Garmin 650 as a Christmas present and we didn't need both.

So I've had this garmin for about a month and the only little problem I've had with it is one time the route it told me to take simply wasn't the best route to take....and it was only one time that it happened. Otherwise garmin is the best brand by far for navigation and it is extremely reliable. My friend has had his garmin for over a yera now and he's had 0 problems as well. At this amazing price this is simply a must buy. I have no idea how they still have some in stock.

Only problem is it does not recalculate quick enough if you miss a turn and there are other turns within 100 feet.

Never got me lost yet.

Wife loves it because it takes the pressure off of her when we travel as she used to be my navigator. Now she can rest and enjoy the trip.

I have owned several different GPS devices, and mapping/travel programs from different vendors (usually lap top based). This GARMIN unit puts them all to shame! Size, speed, accuracy and ease of use continue to amaze! My friends and relatives are always asking to borrow it. 3 of my friends have purchased their own. I researched GPS systems for months before deciding to buy this one. I am glad I did. There are cheaper systems on the market but there's probably not a better one.
Text to speech was very important to me. The Nuvi 350 does not disappoint. The speech is clear and the volumne is great.
The screen adjusts itself beautifully to daylight and night time; sunny and cloudy skies as well. It also locks on to satellites within seconds.
I don't do interstates and the first time I used this little gem, I was going on a route I knew. The nuvi wanted me to go via the interstate (default setting ) so I just ignored the directions and it kept recalculating until we finally reached a place where there was no possibility of interstate accessibility. I went to the Garmin site, downloaded the manual and then told the nuvi to avoid highways.
The nuvi is very intuitive and easy to figure out even without the manual.
The only thing this system doesn't have is bluetooth accommodation but that didn't matter to me at all since I don't have and don't plan to have bluetooth.
This product meets all my expectations and does it superbly. I would highly recommend it. Buy it, use it, you won't be disappointed!

This was the best $300 i have ever spent. I can get anywhere from anywhere and not have to worry about street signs. She talks to you and tells you ahead of time what to do and what to do next. Get this one if you're looking for a GPS cause they are NOT all the same.

When using this device, you don't have to be distracted by looking at the screen, your just listen. Street names are announced in time to make a turn. Driving after sunset is now possible for me. Even if you make a wrong turn it simply recalculates a route. If you start out a different way than Nuvi tells you, no problem it always knows where your are and it just continues to recalculate the route. The sound is clear and you can't get lost and it can be used in any car you drive.

I purchased this product just after Thanksgiving and it works great. The screen is easy to see at night and just as easy in the daylight. The best feature about this gps unit would have to be the text to speech capability for street names when given step by step directions. This allows you to focus more on the road and less on the gps device. This feature is a must when buying a gps unit.

I love this navigation device. And for $200 less than others are advertising it, it is awesome. I have only used it around home. Will try it on an upcoming work trip soon. But it is so small, it fits in my pocket when I am walking the dog on the trail. Very accurate and has great local info. Best purchase I have made this year.

The product has performed very well for my needs. It occassionally is off on very small or unpaved roads but on paved roads it is remarkably accurate. The size and mount have been perfect for my Subaru where the base attaches to the storage space in my mid upper dashboard. This allows for rapid removal and no sign shows of having such a device which presumably deters theft. The mp3 player is very mediocre and my family refuses to let me play it. Perhaps that relates to my musical selection. Service has been very good as I had a challenge loading topographical maps and they walked me through the process.

I have had a Garmin C330 for about 3 years and love it but it was time for an upgrade. It is a wonderful upgrade and it is way better than the Tom Tom brand. I used my friends Tom Tom Go 920T ($600 system) and it was terrible, the menu was confusing, touch-screen was not accurate, ect.

The garmin Nuvi 350 features text to speech (says the name of the road) with is very helpful if your going someplace you've never been. Has a Mp3 player, dictionaries, calculator, ect.

If your looking for a GPS i would highly reccomend this one but if you dont want to spend this much money I would recomend a lesser version of a Garmin.

We Own it for a year now, and have been using this Nuvi frequently, and I can say now that it's been great, and my wife is not as stressed out when we drive. I keep saying that just by that it paid itself off. No more printing directions, or getting lost. We went on numerous trips to D.C., Boston, Maine, Rhode Island, Illinois, Texas, upstate NY - and it's been very helpful - re-calculates very fast if you've taken a shortcut that you know, and you can safely take scenery routes, or other small roads. We live in NYC, and sometimes only in Manhattan it has issues b/c of the skyscrapers around, but everywhere else it works great. It's a great help if you're flying somewhere and renting a car - you know you don't need to worry about getting online directions. I turned it on on the plane several times and it's cool that you can record the speed and it can stay in the memory (so I have my max speed at 496mph). Spells out street names and turns clearly, but better in American English accents than other selections. Fits comfortably in pockets.

Comparing to TomTom, on Nuvi you can change directions while driving - which is great because you don't have to pull over to do that (as some of my friends had to and can become really annoying). Nuvi is Easy to use, nothing complicated, you don't need instructions to use it, everything is very common sense. I see that it's cheaper now than a year ago.

Highly recommend this one.

This product is great!... have only been using it a few weeks now; it's been a godsend when I'm in unfamiliar area. I'm in field sales and I just wish I'd gotten this sooner. I prop it up in the compartment above my radio and it works just fine (so didnt need to put suction cup on glass and be a tip off to would-be thieves that a GPS might be in glove compartment) Recommend it HIGHLY !

Awesome product, great price and very easy to use. Also, very slim and easy to carry around if you don't want to leave it in the car. As resident of the Washington DC area, I was amazed to find that my nuvi successfully navigated all the one-way streets in Lebonon, PA. I bought a second one for my daughter who lives near Boston. My opinion, based upon experience of owners of the other popular GPS, is that the nuvi is a much superior product.

I have used navigator for several years now and now I can't drive without them.
I usually prefer portable units VS car installed ones since I like to take them with me from car to car and on vacation.
Garmin makes a great product, easy to use and I used the IQue for several years now untill I upgraded.
The only downside is still the price but it is worth it.

we love it! and travel with it all the time. now, my husband and i dont get into arguments about him not wanting to stop and ask for directions cause we are never lost. the only thing i would change if i could would be the volume when its going to give you a direction, sometimes we are listening to music and we miss the begining of the direction because it is not loud enough. but i would not want to be without it to travel. it is worth every dollar.

Ordered from amazon with regular shipping and received it 4 days later. I recently moved to the boonies on bfe street in California and if you live in Cali, you can attest to how confusing the streets can be and not to mention the plethora of highways! The day I got it in the mail, I used it and I was blown away. This is coming from someone who is sooo disgustingly bad with directions (I can easily get disoriented in a small, somewhat empty parking lot)!!!

It's so simple, all you need are some fingers, an address, good hearing and POOF...you are well on your way (you don't even need commonsense, it's quite mindless actually)...it gives you turn by turn street and highway names and before you actually approach it, estimated arrival times, and it recalculates really fast if you get off track.

This is the best investment you could ever make. This will actually save you time and money if you think about it. It also has a fuel, food and lodging button and you don't have to waste gas looking for these places (have you seen the gas prices lately?)

Trust me, you will need this if you really want to explore your surroundings. And ladies, it can be kind of scary not knowing your way around. I've been here for only a week and I've been all over the place! My cousins that have lived here all their lives still get lost and are amazed at how I can find my way around (so I continue to chuckle in their faces of course)...

I was looking for a GPS that was easy to use and that my wife who would refuse to read an instruction manual could use. I found it with the nuvi 350. I have used other GPS and needed a manual to do almost anything. This model is simple to use. It can help you find gas, food, lodging, hospitals, and more. I love the fact that if you are looking for a place like Lowes just type in the name and it tells you where it is. It is a great travel tool and it has been very helpful to us.

I've owned this product for 2 months now and I'm very happy with it.

1) Powers up and down quickly.
2) Once a location is selected, it loads the maps quickly.
3) If you stray off route, or miss a turn, it quickly calculates a new route for you.
4) It clearly pronounces street names, both loud and articulately.
5) Very small (about the size of my Palm Treo) and can be carried anywhere.
6) Colorful and easy to read graphic map.
7) Mounting mechanism is easy to use, light, and it sticks (via suction) to the glass!

Is this unit perfect? No. Sometimes, it won't always take you the absolute shortest route. But neither does the built in navigation system in my brand new 2007 Yukon Denali, which costs a heck of a lot more than the Garmin!

As you can see from the great reviews this unit has gotten, it's a very good product, and you won't be sorry you purchased it. I highly recommend it to all.

For people like me, who don't want to spend a lot of time worrying about how to get to one place or another, devices like this one from Garmin are absolutely priceless.

If I go out with my nuvi in my purse, I don't worry a bit about deciding to follow an odd whim to see what's down the next street or how to go about working my way through a series of detours around construction.

I chose this particular model because it looked like it was just the right size to be dropped in my purse when I left the car. That's exactly what I've found. That way I never have to worry about it attracting attention and possibly being stolen, and when I happen to be in the city I can also use it while walking around to be sure I don't lose track of where I am.

I've been using mine for about a year now, and I'm thoroughly happy with the results.

I found it to be very easy to use, easy to follow the prompts with plenty of advance warning regarding changes in roads etc. It works great, is easy to use, and help is avilable on their web site. I have it for almost a year now, and this is definitely the best GPS I ever used, I had the bigger C series Garmins, Magellans and tomtoms. This one is by far my favorite, it's not about the fancy features just about the real easy to follow directions and fast re-routing.

Just two small wishes
1. Longer battery life
2. Better capability in urban areas without the huge cost of fancy dead reckoning.

Oh one more thing the Blue tooth sucks on the higher end models, and the extra (europe, etc.) maps are exorbitantly expensive. I will probably buy one more for my wife.

I bought the Garmin nuvi 350 for use in my delivery business. It was easy to set up and customize the announcer's voice and the little car icon for my situation.
Using it is so very intuitive and were it not for my huge blunt fingertips, I wouldn't have anything negative to say about it.
My big fingertips sometimes cause a miskey on the typing, and the NON QWERTY keyboard took some getting used to. No biggy
Putting in addresses I normally go to was easy and it makes it easy to plan my route now. Inserting additional stops is as easy as answering "YES" to the query after you've selected the address.

The timekeeping functions have been excellent when advising clients as to my ETA. The MP3 player is fine and since I added a 4 gb SD card, I've got soooo much music(and podcasts)that I'm never without tunes or my favorite NPR shows.
I also bought the external antenna, but so far haven't had any reason to connect it. I thought I might need it since I drive in the Gold Country of California, but I've never lost signal in the trees.
I Love it, and have reccommended it to others.

I bought myself the Garmin Nuvi 350 In December. I have to say this tiny little thing is absolutly amazing. It brings you door to door. It tells you the exits & whether they are on the right or left. I gives you the names of the streets you have to turn on. You follow a purple line Then when its time to turn it shows a white line. The little vehicle on the screen is exactly were you are, It's fool proof. If you miss an exit it recalculates imediatly and brings you back. I live in Brooklyn, we had to get to Yankee stadium. Instead of putting in the adress I put in the cross streets that we had to park at. It brough me right there. My brother whos been to Yankee stadium so many times, was at the wrong parking lot!!! He called me to give him directions on how to get to where I was!!! So i went and bought him one for his birthday. If you have kids and there complaining they are STARVING all you have to do is go to food and pick fast food, It takes you to the nearest mcdonalds or what ever it is they want, Nomore stoping to ask for directions when your lost. and ladies, we all know what a drag it is to have to get the kids out of the car to go into a gas station in the middle of a bunch of truckers resting. It brings you to gas stations, ATMs, food, parks, Definitly recommended for anyone to own. its easy & its small enough to carry in your pocketbook.

I bought this as the very first portable GPS device other than Microsoft Streets and Trips-via laptop PC, I have ever used.
I have enjoyed using the GPS. The maps and directions are not perfect but overall I like the unit. I really like the bonus that it can be a MP3 player and a picture viewer.
The unit is sometimes slow to find satellites. I had read about this before I purchased so it was not a surprise. I bought a mount for my motorcycle and have tried the unit. I really like using the unit on the motorcycle. Even if I have not programmed a route, the unit displays the names of the nearing cross streets, which is handy. The unit also displays speed. I like the ability to capture a position and saving as a favorite. My father passed away so while at the gravesite I saved the location. I live 500 miles away so finding the graveyard could be a challenge without the GPS. This may seem like a weird use but it works for me.
I like the big screen and the automatic brightness adjustment from day to night. This unit is packed with features. It even came with an up to date map. While on a trip, I needed to find a restaurant. The one I picked was new, I could see the grass was recently planted and the restaurant was new looking. The unit boots up and says the maps are 2008 version. I was very pleased to have recent version maps in the unit. Overall I would recommend this unit to others.

My wife has wanted a GPS for her Honda CVS for a while. This year the price of the 350 was right in line with our budget so I ordered one for her birthday.

So far she really likes how easy it is to read and use. She isn't a techno savvy person so this was a major concern. I'm actually a little jealous because it's easier to use than the one in my Acura TL.

I was also concerned about the screen size and readability but that's really a non issue. She actually prefers this size because it's easier to put in her purse than the wider screened versions.

What really amazes us is that it will pick up a signal anywhere in the car and in most rooms in the house as well.

Garmin 350 is the transition product in portable GPS systems. It has many bells and whistles that are in much more sophisticated GPS systems, and just enough features that it's functional GPS. The turn by turn navigation system is great (with voice).

Great product, love the text to speech. The interface is very intuitive, making it a breeze to start using right out of the box. The unit is only about the size of a deck of cards, so it is easy to put it in the included case and in a jacket pocket. Really love this unit.

Garmin nüvi 350 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
This has been a lifesaver, exactly what I needed as a real estate agent. It has some nice extras, like an audio book reader, a photo viewer (don't use), & an MP3 player (haven't used yet). But the basic mapping and trip planning is accurate, easy to follow, easy to program, with clear graphics. I have had it cut out briefly in isolated mountain areas, but that's unavoidable--it lasts a lot longer than my cell phone! I highly recommend Garmin, and the nuvi 350 in particular.

Fairly easy to use; although not completely intuitive as far as figuring out the menus. But once I got that figured out, it works very well. (e.g., instead of searching for "Dallas Love Airport", you have to navigate to the city of Dallas, then search for airports; and Love Field is presented.)

I had this product for over a month now and absolutely love this product. The software is easy to use and very little skill is needed in operating this product. Navigation wise, this product is very easy to see and hear, directions seem accurate and percise. The Nuvi 350 is good product if your a first time buyer. I never thought it would come in handy so much in my daily life. The 350 offers so many options if you like music, or need to find out what is the closest store from you exact location, too viewing the whole United States and pin pointing the exact spot or location you need to go. It is a very handy tool if you know the just the name of a place or location and it will search its database and find the location with a phone number and address. I would recommend this product to anyone that is a little skeptical or just doesnt know what the right brand is to buy. I hope this product gives you the same quality and reliability it has given me.

I bought the Garmin 350 through Amazon, saving around $100, when compared to Best Buy, Circuit City, and Target. The product was with free shipping which always makes shopping thru Amazon more affordable. Thanks Amazon for one of the most useful gadgets I've ever purchased. My husband and I take it from city to city and now can always find the stores, restaurants, and sights with such ease!!!

Great product. I love how no matter which way you turn, it "recalculates" (in a British accent, if you so choose!) and gets you where you need to go. Doesn't know all the roads, but it will get you to and from your location. I didn't want a huge screen...smaller is better in technology, right? (unless you're my husband tv shopping)
Sticks onto windshield- and my windshield is quite a ways from the driver's seat, but you can still read the screen just fine, I think it's a good size.

Buying a GPS unit can be very vexing. Even Garmin makes several styles of NAV units. Amazon had the best price on the 350 which is quite a lot of NAV for the money. It has yet to fail me when I enter a valid address. It even found a spot dead on in the middle of the Sonoran desert! And did I mention it plays MP3s and JPGs, takes a 2 gig SD chip, and has a stunning touch pad interface. The screen is quite adequate and the software well written. It takes a day or two to master the nuances and after that, it's all down hill. Goodbye to the anxiety of being in a new city, trying to find an unfamiliar address. Lithium batteries scorch for hours of music time or hand held field use. 10-25 foot accuracy.

The Garmin nuvi 350 was a hit! My oldest daughter purchased on this Summer for us to travel and it worked great!! My new son-in-law loves anything electronic so I purchased one for them this Christmas. I gave it to them a little early due to them traveling so much. After having it a week, he ordered one for his mom and dad for Christmas. So I guess you can call us "The Happy Garmin Family"!!

Great product. Easy to use out of the box because this unit is completely "touch screen". Setting give you options and you just "touch" the one you want. Same for operations....looking for ATMs...just spell and unit tells you where and how far away. Then touch one and follow directions. Uses street names and "positions" well. I pass under a bridge and the image on the screen shows.

Great value, quick shipment, well packaged. This is the third NUVI 350 I have purchased. I got one for myself and was so impressed that I got one for a daughter and this one is for another daughter. I like the small size to carry in my pocket. I never take a trip without the NUVI 350. It is easy to use and makes traveling much easier.

br /The best feature is Text-to-speech, it speaks the actual name of the street or turn. A big safety feature, you don't have to take your eyes off the road. Also, the fact that it comes with maps of Canada is very useful if you live near the border or plan to visit Canada.

After several hours of research to decide which gps was the best one to buy, I finally choose this one. This does not have all the new functionality like fm transmitter, etc but this unit works great. I think less is better in this case. I have already updated maps of middle east since I live in Kuwait and it works perfectly. I have also updated maps of europe since I have traveled to Germany and Austria with this unit and it was amazing. Completely accurate every time. I actually had a tom tom with me and this unit and this unit was way more accurate than the tom tom. I am completely happy with this unit and its very easy to travel with, its the perfect size. I have not used the US maps that it came with yet but I know it will work perfectly since the other maps have done a great job. Great unit!!!!!

I loved the Garmin Nuvi350 so much that I bought two! I bought the first one last year for my husband's car and it was easy to use right out of the box. When we moved this fall, I needed one just for me and I immediately started my research. What I found was there was no company that I trusted more and this was the perfect amount of features for me. I don't like to pay for features that I know I will never use. Amazon was hands down the cheapest price, too. My aunt is in the market for a GPS now and she needs something inexpensive and easy to use. I will soon be ordering a third one of these!

Garmin Nuvi 350 is a great GPS. Very user friendly.Recently I moved from New Jersey to Phoenix, Az and this GPS helped me find all the POI's eg nearest Walmart, Grocery, Bank etc. The text to speech is very helpful. You need not glance at the GPS even once but can drive smoothly just by hearing the directions given out. Has lots of other features which I have not tried out yet. Also like the Garmin case provided with the GPS. Helps to store it.Ovearll a great buy.

I purchased this Garmin product after looking at a friend's 360. After trying his, I opted for the 350. It had everything that the 360 had, except Bluetooth capability, and the price on the 350 was less.
br /I have been very pleased with the results.
br /I have had a few instances that when I turned it on, the maps did not load. But cutting it off and back on, the maps loaded.
br /I have not had any other problems.
br /The "time of arrival" has been very accurate, sometimes varying at the most 3 to 4 minutes. But most of the time exact.
br /I really like the ease of use. It is very simple to navigate screens.
br /I would buy this one again.

This is a great GPS unit. Compact, triangulates quickly, easy to use, touchscreen display. I recommend. Don't save a few dollars by buying a GPS that is not the thin kind. I bought the miniature CRT-type before this mini LCD-type, and it is not work the savings. Compact is superior in this application.

I bought this for my fiance as a Christmas gift. We were making a trip for Thanksgiving so she got it early. I LOVE this GPS. It has helped us find our way all over the place and, when we need fuel or something to eat, it finds the nearest place! I suppose most of the GPS's out there do the same thing but I am very pleased with this one. I highly recommend this GPS!

This nuvi 350 model was the best deal out there for the features that I needed. I got one for my father who is 64 and he figured out how to configure it to his needs within 15 minutes, not to mention it is ready to use out the box. Just turn it on and you are ready to go. It is pre-loaded with the 2009 maps already and has TONS of interest points. I actually bought this since I was moving from Miami to Boston and I wanted this to navigate through the confusing Boston area. I used to on the road trip on the way up and let me tell you that it paid for itself right there. After getting tired of driving on some nights at 1am. I was able to find hotels in abundance near me and that saved the night. Overall I think unless you want a GPS to hold your hand and drag you to the location, this is exactly what you need.

I LOVE my new Nuvi. First you have to know that I get lost ALL the time. I had to make a trip to Colorado (over 1000 miles) and NO WAY I was going without a GPS.

br /The screen is clear, large lettering, easy to read, It speaks to you (to the point of annoyance if you turn the wrong way). I have used it DAILY for over a month now and it has only steered me wrong once (to a dead end it thought was a through street)

br /This unit is INEXPENSIVE but does MOST of the functions the more expensive units do.
br /MOST, not all

br /I love the "find gas" or "food", etc. options. What a blessing that is. Now I don't have to settle for one vs another. I can pick MY favorite on the road chains (or try new local places). I don't have to opt for the expensive right off the road gas station, I can decide if I want to go a mile or 2 off the freeway and see if the station there is cheaper. This really happened on the way back from Colorado. I saved over 10 cents/gallon by going OFF the freeway, through a little town and ending up at one the the more reasonable chains. Couldn't see this one off the freeway! If I do this about 100 times, I think my Nuvi will be paid for, not to mention the time and gas I've wasted simply driving around looking for a place to eat or put gas because I don't like the options presented.

br /If I HAD to criticize this unit I would say
br / 1. Be nice if you could PLOT a route with multiple stops
br / (you circumvent this by putting in all your destinations ahead of time as "favorites") and then push the next one enroute. It will ask you if you want to make this a stop (enroute) or not. It only allows ONE of these per plotted route, so I just pushed the "next" place I wanted to go to and said "no" to making it a stop. One extra step (pushing a button) but didn't pay $500 for my GPS!

br /I can take this in the city (walking)- which I haven't done (but will)
br /or use the suction cup "snap on" gizmo for in the car (I use this alot - once you get the hang of it, it's easy), so you can remove it and hide it under the seat of your car and not tempt those who would rather not pay for their stuff and take yours instead.

br /a BIG PLUS: It comes with EVERYTHING you need, sleeve case (sturdy, protective), windshield mount, car charger adapter. Most of the others, including Nuvi's, you have to BUY all this extra.

br / 2. Be nice if I could've CORRECTED my GPS when it led me down the dead end street (1/2 mile off course) so it might not do it next time. Don't know if ANY GPS's do that or not, but I could see the problems that might be associated with an "always always lost" type person like me tampering with the memory of an "almost always right" GPS like the Nuvi! Not complaining about that one!

br / 3. Sometimes, it's about 25-50 feet off when I give it an address. Don't know if that is a GPS thing or this GPS thing. Each time, I have a visual of the place. If it is something I want to keep, I tell it "current location" and then put the name in again (vs using the address input). I've done this a couple of times.

br / 4. I wanted to use the Dutch language voice, but the "street name, turn by turn" directions were not used with this language, just "turn righ in 2 miles/kilometers". I like hearing the street names, so I changed it back to English.

br /All in all, I LOVE my Nuvi 350. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I even talk back to it sometimes! (scary huh?)

My son had come home with a Garmin nuvi 250. We went for a drive and I really enjoyed the product. I found the nuvi 350 on sale and I am very happy with this product. Worked right out of the box, and the 350 is very user friendly. Don't have reservations about the Garmin nuvi 350.

I moved to DC and couldn't live without this. I then got one for my grown children. They love it! My son-in-law is from Spain, so they set it to give directions in Spanish! They even took it to Madrid for a recent visit. Works great anywhere! I like this version because it speaks to you. Easier to use when you are driving alone.

I bought this supposedly top of the line Garmin Nuvi in Dec 2006. Generally I am satisfied with the unit but some simple features are missing.

1) The software upgrades only include bug fixes not the maps. So if you received old maps, you will be charged $60 for map updates every year.

2) There is no way to save simple favorite searches like McDonalds & Starbucks. You have to type in the search every time you switch screens. This is really irritating.
It would be good if these could be saved in favorite searches.

3) It would be good if the Starbucks/stores you are looking for are overlaid on the map. They just show you the direction and distance.

This is a very good product. It works very well during my recent trip in CA and has all the pros mentioned by other reviewer. Here are the cons:
1. the unit reqests spelling of the city name other than using zip code.
2. couldn't find my home address to set up "Home" although the device does show the road of my house on. (my house was build about 10 years ago)
3. picture slide show is so slow that makes the device useless for this function.

We just bought this Garmin NUVI 350 a few weeks ago and my wife used it on a trip. It made everything so much easier for her. My wife is not "technology oriented," but she found it extra simple to learn and use the basic functions of the Garmin NUVI 350. I'm a real estate agent, so I plan to also use it for work to find difficult addresses.

The adjustable volume level is pretty good, but could be just a little louder on the highest setting to make it easier to hear when there's a lot of road and tire noise. Speaker is limited by it's small size, and the speaker is on the back of the unit, facing away from you. The display is bright and easy to adjust.

It's very easy to find addresses with the Nuvi 350 and the "text to voice" feature is great, since it speaks the names of the roads, such as, "Turn right on Woodland Drive in 100 feet." It helps you keep your eyes on the road and the street signs, instead of looking at the map.

On a county road, the unit knew I was "traveling west on County Road 52," but no roads were showing up on the map until I'd hit a major intersection and then the road I was traveling on disappeared as I continued past the intersection. The Nuvi 350 continued to show my motion on the map with the cursor, but the screen did not show the road. I'm not sure if it was just a temporary glitch, but if I travel that rural road again, I'll be checking the function. Also, it routed me improperly to a rural address when I tested it on that excursion, but I knew that there had not been a bridge for more than 10 years on the route it mapped out for me, so I would have hit a dead end. But overall, it's accurate and very easy to use.

Because it's illegal to mount a device to the windshield in Minnesota, we put the included, adhesive backed disk on the dash and the windshield mount's suction cut very easily sticks to the disk. It's also easy to adjust the tilt and swivel angle of the Nuvi 350 on the mounting device.

I loaded some mp3 songs on an SD memory card with my computer and the Nuvi's mp3 player worked just fine, but of course the tiny speaker was low quality, so plugging in a good set of headphones is much better (but not while driving, of course). It's not as easy to use as an iPod for loading and navigating songs, but it can pinch hit as an entertainment device for the kids on a trip when you don't need the navigation function for awhile.

To use as a handheld device, it would have been nice if it had been manufactured with some rubbery grips on the edges of it or a textured plastic surface, since the smooth plastic case is so slippery, and it would be tragic if you dropped on a hard surface, like concrete. Even for handling it, I would have liked a little bit of grip on the surface.

All-in-all, a great little device and I highly recommend it.

I love this thing, Im an aussie so i get totally lost driving in NY, It has awesome features although i wish i had seen the blue tooth on the next model up. My bigest problem is Sat reception. It is pretty slow to pick up Sats especially if you are running on just battery power. In New York it seems to lose me on the streets amongst the highrise buildings somtimes. Its the perfect size and easy 2 carry around, nice little case and this is the best price i found anywhere. Be nice to see one that you can play video on soon.

I bought this GPS unit over a year ago, and it was absolutely my best electronics purchase ever. It's very compact, so it's easy to take on trips and use a rental car. Excellent battery life. My only complaint would be that it occasionally takes a long time to find the satellite lock, particularly after traveling (by plane, for instance) a long distance or after a long time between uses.

I purchased this one last year and now all my friends have purchased one as well as it works great! No more getting lost after a detour or making a wrong turn and no more guessing about where I am. Also, the feature that allows you to see all the gas stations, grocery stores, attractions in the area is a wonderful addition. I really like the fact that the unit tells you the name of the street you need to turn to as well as the distance to that street. It makes getting around a breeze! ALos, the small size means that it is easy to take with you and use in another car so you never have an excuse to get lost again.

Nice GPS for the money and for its size. I just sold a car with a GPS(and never owned a “hand-held” or portable unit) so I can't compare this product to any other "hand held" but to "built-in" GPS’ only(I have had and still have an Acura GPS and a Lexus GPS, respectively.) It lacks the level of details that you would see on a built-in GPS(More street names, more elaborate POI search options, voice guidance quality) but it does the job at a friction of the cost. Its slim size allows hiding it in the car or taking it with you. The built-in speaker needs improvement as the voice is hard(or harder) to understand than a built-in GPS but I, myself, may not trade the quality of speaker at the expense of its size or weight. It comes with a choice of voice guidance language(American English, Australian English, British English, French, Spanish, etc...) which I am having a little fun with. Not as all-inclusive as a built-in but I would recommend it for its size and versatility. By the way, the unit has no problem readily finding satellites if you have an unobstructed view of the sky contrary to complaints that I've read here before my purchase...

I purchased this item from amazon and got great delivery. I took the unit outside and within a few minutes it was set up. I decided to go to the post office about one mile away. This unit directed me to every side street with stop signs and when I got near to the PO, it told me to keep on going. I did not listen. Upon leaving the PO, it sent me back the better way but insisted I turn into my neighbors driveway across the street! I bought this to use with my travel trailor which I do not need to be misdirected at all. I sent it back the next day. The two stars were for the easy setup and quick obtaining of the sat's.

This is a great device to keep people from getting lost, however, it sometimes takes you routes that seem out of the way, even if you have it on fastest time. Another flaw is that it takes forever to pick up the satellites. Sometimes it takes over 20 minutes, and by that time, i figured out how to get to my destination myself! It also does not work well in the city at all, New York for example. Loses satellite reception, and when it does have reception, it doesnt know exactely where I am and keeps recalculating different routes even if I am stopped in traffic.

A great device in general, but has too many flaws for the price.

My only concern was that, lot of times, when you search for any thing like a restaurant, it will show you some distance but when you run the directions, it takes much longer (sometime more than double) distance to reach there.

This is exactly the type of GPS I was looking for. Although it also comes with all the bells and whistles that are good for initial few days but find little use later on. But it is great when it comes to its fundamental functions: finds the best route, says the name of the street (eg, Turn Right on Edgell Road), does a recalculation in an instant, easy to use, has day and night mode, has the locations of lots of important places, is light, is sturdy, etc.
It also has picture viewer, mp3 player but when I buy a GPS those are not the features that I am looking for. You have ipods or zunes for mp3 player and then you have dvd players these days.

This is the 3rd nuvi 350 that we have in our family now between my wife, daughter, and myself. We are all very pleased with the unit. It is very easy to operate and is very accurate with its directions. We especially like the slim size which makes it very easy to store.

I would highly recommend the Garmin nuvi 350.

I didn't know too much about GPS systems but this one had tons of great reviews. Bought it for my dad whose a bit older as an Xmas gift, wanted something that was useful but not difficult for him to use. He had no trouble setting it up and using it right away.

I managed to drop one of these from a height of 2' and the screen was totally destroyed. Garmin understandably refused to fix it for free.

I purchased a second one and all was joyous again. A friend suggested I bring it along for a trip so I put it in a case in my side pocket. When I pulled it out again the screen was horribly cracked. It was a tight but not exceptionally tight fit in my pocket and I find it incredible that this managed to destroy it. Garmin has also refused to consider this one for replacement under warranty.

Overall, I feel like this product needs a little more ruggedization before being described as a "Pocket Navigator".

Overall , I liked it .But I wish it was better. I am not comparing this with other GPS because I haven't used any other stand-along gps.

I liked the fact that it reads the street names.

The time it takes to start (load-maps, get satellite signal,and calculate the route) is unpredictable, even if you are in an open area. It can take anywhere between 30 sec to 2 mins in my experience.
That can be frustrating if you are trying to reach some place in a hurry.

I wish the user interface was better. For example ,it would be nice if it autocompleted what you typed.

I would have also liked seeing the speed limit of the road, that could have been a feature which people could turn on/off as they wished. The mio gps has that feature.

I bought Nuvi to use when I travel out of town for work. "She" has become my constant companion.

This device is easy to use, and so incredibly handy. Beats the heck out of online maps, which are not easily modifiable on the road. Nuvi has allowed me great flexibility and I do not worry about getting lost in a foreign (to me) locale.

Easy to operate. View is great. Sound is a little lacking. If you turn it up to overcome stereo's road noise and kids it's a little distorted. If you turn it down you can't hear it, but you can see the directions on the screen plain enough. Also it has lots of voices to choose from and some sound better than others. Now the ugly...I have the what I think to be the latest maps loaded. If you ask for a point to go to like Lowes, Walmart etc. If it does NOT have a street number when you call it up from it's data base it will likly get you to the street but maybe a mile off! For the most part if you give it a street number it will take you to it or if the point of interest has the street number preloaded it will work.
I did put in manually my Sister in Laws address and it told me she was 1/2 mile further down the road. In it's defense, it was a country address and our county is going through some major road changes.
At any rate if it will get you there it is dead on if not good luck!

Have a Garmin 350 and bought brother a 360 less than a year ago. Loved mine on a trip from VA to Yuma to watch Golden Knights train in January past two years.
Bro has diabetes and does not see well. Ordered the 2008 Map Update, primarily for him. I became very angry because could not load map to 350 after first loading to 360. Did not care for customer service first time. Today was exceedingly happy after talking to customer service. Bill, from Olathe, was everything first customer service rep was not. He couldn't help me re 2008 map I wanted to load to two Nuvi's but did help me with another sticky problem. Nuvi wouldn't stick very long to dash of my wife's Acura. The weighed mount he suggested sounds like cure needed for a deeply pebbled dash.

Bill asked how I liked Garmin now. Went thru long story of how my son, in charge of aviation assets of Army's Golden Knights, past three years always relied on Garmin all over America, both forming core of nav system and a backup Garmin Portable in his lap just in case- How he navigated over foggy Lake Michigan while CW5 flying right seat would bring the craft perfectly over White Sox Park at son's direction.
Told him now I love Garmin, what can I say!

I bought it after reading many reviews. However found out just after about 6 months that the speaker stopped working all of a sudden. The unit never had any damage or nothing adverse events happened. Did google and found out that its not new complaint for this model. Garmin customer service is giving no assurance that it can be fixed. Try to find a unit that will last sometime (esp when spending so much money).

I have now owned the Nuvi 350 for 7 months and consider it a waste of money, especially when one compares it with the Magellan equivalents. After the 4th month, it started taking longer and longer tracking satellites. At the beginning I was suspecting that this was caused by cloudy skies or maybe too much reflective material on my rental cars' windshields. I started using the darn thing while holding it outside the window, but even that did not work after a while. It was as if the unit was getting "more and more tired." Eventually it stopped tracking all together, so after consulting Garmin support, I did the recommended reset/update. This indeed cured the problem for a few weeks, but once again it is no longer responding. It keeps asking me if I am indoors, i.e. no ability to see any satellites. This occurs even in wide open areas in the park, with no trees, no clouds or anything else to obstruct a wide and clear sky.

So, I am giving up on Garmin, and just bought a Magellan Maestro 2250, a truly superior product. The size is smaller, there is no folding antenna to worry about (sometimes the Nuvi's antenna makes mounting difficult) and comes with traffic reports for 3 months. Of course, the Magellan comes with the far better software that Hertz cars with Nevrlost also have. Even when my Nuvi worked well, I still wished for the Magellan's software...

I'm very disappointed. Did you send me a used one or new. I ordered a new unit. There were missing parts. There was no Manual, Quick Start Guide and Warranty card enclosed. All that was in the box was the unit and AC adapter. I thought J&R was a reliable store.

I recieved my new nuvi 350 today, and went out to try it in my convertable, top down. With the antenna up, the device contined to display "GPS is Off" during my entire drive. The user manual (in the device memory) and Garmin web sit FAQ were of no help. So much for my having a GPS to help me navigate on my trip next week. Doesn't Garmin even test these things before they ship out of Taiwan?

This is the worst piece of technological crap I've ever purchased. It's so bad that if I take it with me, I'm sure to download MapQuest information and any other information that I can find to make sure that I won't get lost when the Nuvi begins its eternal search for satellites. I can't get Garmin on the phone so right now I'm stuck with this thing. It gets better reception when the antenna is closed, but when you open it to mount it, the reception is lost and the satellite search begins. Warning: Even when it works, it will misdirect you. It will take you in circles. It will lead you to somebody's private driveway in error. Don't be misled by the glowing reviews of this thing; it's terrible.

The NUVI 350 is junk and shouldn't even get one star. It doesn't track my current location properly ie ; says I'm in a location I'm not,
and the maps are incomplete. It also comes with a scimpy owners manual; I will be returning the item today.

Orderd the item on the 5th of Dec. Was supposed to be here on the 15th. Just checked statis and the delivery day has changed to the 22 of Dec. How long does it take to mail an item from New Jersey to New York? Not 17 days. Would love to review the product but i don't have it yet.

When it works, it does what it claims to do. But mine broke after about 2 months. The unit would stay on for only a few seconds then shuts off by itself.

Contacted customer support, sent the unit back, they couldn't fix it, so they sent a new one back to an address that doesn't exist in a different city. Luckily, UPS contacted me and got my correct address. Same thing happens to the new unit, then we figured out that it was the car charger's problem. They send a new car charger out, but again to the wrong address. Still waiting for the new car charger.

This is my edited review, two weeks ago I gave 2 stars to the device - now only one. I cannot understand how this device has received near 200 glorious reviews.
We have had it for 2 weeks, and we've decided to return it. Its directions are wildly unreliable:
1. On well-familiar routes it chooses non-optimal way in 90% times. When I do not obey and select my own route, it for awhile tries to redirect me to the "correct" way before it understands and begins to cooperate.
2. It makes plainly absurd decisions:
a) the simplest way was to go straight on the street - the device adviced me to turn right from that street, then left and again left and... to return to the same street after this unneeded detour;
b) my destination was 150 feet from the right turn on the right side - it adviced me to make a left turn and then to make the U-turn;
c) I needed to enter a highway south which is on the left, and the closest entrance was 0.1 mile on the left - the device directed me in the opposite direction to another entrance 1.5 miles to the north.
3. It gives plainly wrong directions: to enter a highway I needed to make 3 immediate right turns - the device told me only about two turns, positioned my car in the opposite direction and ordered to drive 2 miles in that direction south while its (and my) intention was to drive 2 miles north.
4. It is bad with intersections. I had an address in Brewster, NY: intersection of Rtes 6 & 22. I tried to enter Rt. 6, Rte 6, Route 6 - in every case the response was: "No matches found".
But the place does exist there.
5. It is bad and inconsistent with very curved roads. Sometimes it treats a curvature as a right or left turn even though the street does not change its name there. Sometimes it ignores the curvature even when the name is changed, so it would be more logical to treat the curvature as a turn.
6. Couple times it commanded a turn to somebody's private driveway with no real street nearby.

I am rather good in directions myself but my wife has a problem with orientation, and she dreamt about the GSP. However, she has driven with this device and decided that for any new trip she, as before, needs to study a map and to ask for directions in advance rather than to rely on this imperfect instrument. So why to pay $620?

I think it's high time Garmin really started to re-visit their pricing strategy. I went through numerous versions of Garmin products this week in so many shops and understood I clear notion - They are OVER-PRICED, period and basically "milking" the consumers.

An year back, Garmin was the way to go, too few alternatives, etc. Today, we're inundated with options and much, much cheaper flavors are available offering SAME and MUCH enhanced set of features and options.

The 2 reasons why it's still selling ? People are USED TO Garmin, they had trusted it, it's good and realiable. I agree ABSOLUTELY to that. So, they want to buy the 2nd. Garmin, 3rd., 4th. As it is most widely used, we tend to receive from our well-wishers the known statement - "You want a GPS, go for Garmin, I have it, it's damn good"... Agreed. But, the core question - at what cost!!???

The 2nd. reason is the user interface, definitely very welcomed and nice. But these days there are numerous who are actively coming up the curve and there (in terms of usability) and with MORE features. Thus, again, it's just vanilla HISTORICAL and HYPE. What's Garmin doing ???? Keeping the price same, basically milking customers. Why?

It uses Navteq. It's software (mapping) is an ALREADY developed product, now only enhancements are done. If an alternative company gives Navteq maps at a much lesser price, Garmin definitely can too. What they are doing instead, is adding a PREMIUM PROFIT on top of it.

It's I think important for all to start seriously look at alternatives prior to purchasing this product.

I am PURPOSELY not stating ANY alternatives, since it would mean I am marketing them... just look around.

My friend has one and it is great. Beware of Amazon's shipping policies. I ordered mine on Aug 30th and still don't have it on September 12 even though I paid for overnight shipping. Amazon falsely advertises they have it in stock and will get it to you the next day. I called and they said they couldn't answer on the phone and I would have to write them. I wrote them and they didn't address the issue. I wrote them again, and they never answered. Apparently Amazon has a new policy to advertise they have items in stock when they actually don't. I asked them point blank if that's their policy and they declined to answer. It is the best price if your prepared to wait a very long time. Hopefully they'll actually ship it soon since I joined their prime membership and paid for overnight shipping.
