Works fine with my Garmin StreetPilot 2610. This was a replacement for the first one that broke. The plastic end is not particularly strong, so be careful when not in use. Speaker quality is fine for its purpose.

Overall, the adapeter replacement works fine. I plugged it in and the unit powered up. I am still a bit frustrated that I needed to replace this adapter. The Garmin unit is great - the directions and interface work incredibly well - but this adapter design is less than ideal. I had the 2720 unit less than two years and I needed to spend ~$100 to get it current - replacing this adapter and buying the updated mapping CD.

Garmin had to go out of their way to engineer the poor quality connector on the speaker/power cord. It is an over-all dumb design perdicated out of the Garmin's apparent desire to make it a little less epsensive to build the main unit to water-resistant specifications.
br /
br /In less than a year, the poorly designed and manufactured connector on the main-unit end of the connector cable began to de-laminate and cause random unit resets when my car was jarred by pot holes or road irregularities.
br /
br /I also own an older Street Pilot III which uses a much more robust round connector with pins that stick into holes in the cable. It probably cost Garmin about fifty cents or a dollar a unit more for the old style connector. Given Garmin's reputation for quality products, I'm really surprised they changed the engineering to the lousy leaf spring connector they're using now.
br /
br /Garmin really should have a voluntary recall and replace these junky connectors to promote customer satisfaction instead of making us shell out between $30 and $40.

I've about had it with this durned power adapter/speaker cord. Every year it falls apart and I have to buy another one. Garmin just makes the durned thing too durned cheap. Speaker and cord part is great. . .just the part that plugs into the lighter socket keeps falling apart. Gotta admit I'm a heavy user. . .like all day everyday for 5 years. The GPS itself is fabulous, as long as you order the update maps when they're available, (which isn't often enough). Update maps are $150 plus $25 or more for the adapter. . .costs me $180 a year to run under this system. Gotta admit. . .I love it. . .cept when it breaks.

br /The new one works fine, and was about 20% cheaper than buying it directly through Garmin.

br /It still is a bit disappointing that Garmin didn't step up to the plate and replace these for nothing. When I was searching for my replacement, I found quite a few people also had to replace the adaptor.

The External Speaker with 12-Volt Adapter that arrived with my Street Pilot order failed to work within one month of purchase. It was was not abused or overused, that's for sure.

This power adaptor/audio unit is truly junk. My motorcycle vibrates the hex head bolt loose frequently which causes the speaker to flip flop. The thing is plastic so you can't torque the nut very heavily or you will break the plastic. The worst part is the horribly engineered power/data pins. If you remove the power plug frequently eventually you will snag a pin end and pull it out of its proper place and voila you are busted and have to shell out over $40 for a new proprietary power plug. A terrible accessory on an otherwise great unit. Unfortunately, this part is a single critical point of failure. Shame shame Garmin.

Rather than shell out $30 to $40 for another flimsy replacement, one can just go to Radio shack and buy a "Y" cigarette lighter accessory (allowing 2 accessories to plug into one socket). This assumes you can salvage the pieces from your broken plug-in. Simply reassemble the broken pieces (make sure the fuse is there), and slide all into one of the sockets on the "Y", then tape the Garmin plug and "Y" socket together to make sure it remains secure. You now have the new "Y" to plug in and out of the cigarette lighter and an extra socket on the "Y" for your celphone!!

I had to get a replacement due to the end breaking off. Fortunately, I was still under warrenty and got the replacement for free. However, the replacement cord was significantly shorter than the original. I'm not sure if tech support mailed the wrong adapter or whether Garmin re-engineered the cord. Anyway, make sure you tighten the end periodically, especially if you unplug it frequently. The fact that I had any problem with this critical component was bad enough. The shortening of the replacement cord was uncalled for.

Garmin's products are of the best quality, but I am a little displeased that my travel cord needed replacement so soon. It would not work properly after three years of use. It was not a warranty item so I purchased it through Amazon. The price was very fair, but when I began using the product I noticed that the cord was shorter than the original causing complications in some vehicles. They should go back to the longer cord or at least give you an option.

br /I want to say Amazon it at the top of their game. The Postal service put my package in a community parcel box and misplaced the key. It took them nearly a month to get access to my box. Meanwhile, I had contacted Amazon and they promply shipped a replacement at no cost to me. I received the replacement in four days. Once I got the first box, I was given clear instructions how to ship it back. Their procedure was effortless. I will continue to use your services.

title says it all, it is hard to fit into my ashtray lighter plug since the speaker part sticks out quite far. But since I misplaced my old one I was happy to buy this overpriced beauty instead of shelling out a few hundred more for a brand new gps.

The product works fine and the delivery time was excellent. The price was still a little high, but much better than you could purchase it from Garmin. I love my Garmin GPS, but I find that this integral part of the system is prone to failure and repeated replacement. Because of poor engineering design or whatever, Garmin should stand behind their product better and either design a better adapter, or at least discount the existing design to GPS owners.

The Garmin 2610 just won't work without this product but the plastic threads for the fuse holder should be beefed up by Garmin. I had to buy this replacement because the threads on my original unit became stripped after moving the 12v adapter from vehicle to vehicle over the past 4 years. Otherwise the product works great.

So far I have been very pleased with this adapter. Idealy the speaker would have been in the GPS, but what can you do. I have been using this for a month now and it has performed flawless. The only concern I have is how long the flimsy looking pivit point will last.

I own a Garmin Streetpilot 2620 and purchased this external speaker to replace the broken tip on the original external speaker purchased in 2004. The good news is that Garmin has finally redesigned the tip in this current version of the external speaker. However, there is a much cheaper solution...
br /
br /Garmin offers a "External speaker repair kit" from their 1-800 customer service that can replace the same parts. I purchased this kit which includes all the possible parts that could possibly break on your external speaker (tip, plastic screw, a fuse, and the spider clip).
br /
br /Garmin finally got it right with this model of the speaker.

Our StreetPilot stopped working for unknown reasons. Rather than send it to Garmin to look at, I thought it would be easier, quicker, and cheaper to first try a new adapter cord. This one one delivered quickly and did the trick. Our GPSr is now working great.
