I've had the 600c for a couple days now and ran a comparative test against the Garmin GPSMap 276 with the automotive kit. Both units have their strengths, but the 600c has a larger screen and fits on the dash of my 3 vehicles a lot better. The 600c is much simpler to use than the 276 because of the touchscreen capability which the Garmin doesn't have. The 600c gives up a smidge in screen clarity, but it also provides satellite imagery which the Garmin doesn't. The 600c has an MP3 player which I don't plan to use, however, with the MP3 player comes the capability to tune the 600c to a vacant FM radio frequency and it will send the GPS voice commands through your car stereo. The Garmin is the more "elegant" design, it's smaller and includes a Lithium battery, so it doesn't need a power cord, while the 600c is totally dependent on the power cord. The gotcha with the Garmin, is that the power cord contains the audio speaker, so if you want the unit to give voice directions, you need to plug in the power cord. Unfortunately, the power cord for the Garmin is difficult to plug in to the socket and it's even harder to remove it. Plus, the Garmin suffers from poor placement of its USB and Power sockets because they both conflict with the antenna positioning. So if you want a real techie mapping GPS, go with the Garmin. But if you want a large screen GPS that's really easy to use, the 600c wins hands down. Plus, Lowrance gives you everything you need in the box. Garmin nickels dimes, wait, that should be $100 and $150's you if you want extra capability, a decent mount or a cheap plastic cover to protect the screen.

Have had the unit for a month. The screen resolution is absolutely the best I have seen. I can read the street names without using my reading glasses. Have not had an opportunity to use many of the features as it may take years. Several disappointments with the unit. It is not capable of feeding Lat and Long. data to a laptop as did my old Garmin Street Pilot. It also advertises over 3000 lakes worth of navagation charts on the unit database. However, the lake I live on in Oklahoma, just 80 miles from the factory in Tulsa is not included. This is a major problem as I was informed it would have this lake when discussed at the Miami boat show in February of this year. Other features such as 5gig of hard drive space for MP3 music and JPEG pictures are in my estimation worthless. The standard mounting base is a large suction cup with a goose neck connection to the unit, which is quite heavy. It is necessary to adjust the unit so it rests on the dash as the unit vibrates if just supported by the goose neck. The Garmin Street Pilot mount is much superior.

br /As stated the screen is great and the touch screen feature seems good. Still have a steep learning curve to benifit from all the other GPS related features.

We purchased this unit on July 16, 2007 for a motorcycle ride from Minneapolis, MN to Anchorage, AK and it worked great. Normally we would use the Alaska Milepost magazine to reference the route, but the iWay 600C performed so well, we never used the magazine. My only problem with the iWay 600C was that unit came with a 2003 database and some of the locations and roads had changed. An updated database is available from the iWay website, but it costs an additional $75. Aside from the outdated database issue, the iWay 600C did everything we needed.

I puchased a 500c over a year ago. A couple of months ago I updated the software that I downloaded from their site. After the update The maps were messed up and I could not use it. I called customer support and explained all the steps I had taken to update the software. They said that even though I was out of warrenty they would fix it for me and to send only the unit back to them.

br /A couple of weeks later they sent me a completely new 600C with all the accessories! I could not believe it! Now that is what I call Great customer service! Thank you Lowrance!

Versatile for truck, RV, and boat usage. Good built-in lake maps. Large bright screen. Easy to use buttons. Sat data is useful, but locations are not user downloadable (not yet). The unit is heavy, tough and stout. The holder is strong. The suction cup is very tight. This unit is built for tough and rough conditions - hot, dry, rainy / wet. I have used the product for over a year now in and out of the boat, RV, and truck. I'm very happy with the unit. Has proven itself already as used on nighttime trip on a lake. Map updated purchased, updated from Q106 to Q307.

The touch screen is very, very tempermental! Sometimes it works, sometimes you have to hit the screen multiple times. The mp3 player is horrible! Sometimes it plays through the radio ok, other time all you can hear is some scratching sounds. I will send it back to the factory for adjustment. I hope they fix it or replace it. I will never, ever buy a Lowrance product again!!!

iWay 600C - software issues

Although the size of the unit is large. The extra screen size allows for easy viewing. Point-to-point navigation is nice for family trips to answer the proverbial question ("When are we going to get there?). I bought the unit for the flexibility to transfer usage from the car to the boat. Suprisingly, intercoastal bouys are included as I am not a lake boater. However, the unit had some sort of software issues - the screen would freeze and be non-responsive and there were a couple of visual presentation problems. I had to send it back. For the dual use, there aren't many choices in this price range. You could spend hundreds more on a Garmin and the added marine cards.

Great unit. Satellite mapping is the best!!!

I've had this unit for 6 months now and I couldn't be happier. It's a little work-horse (actually the unit is pretty big). It always finds a satellite signal before I've finished backing out of the driveway. It doesn't seem to suffer from any software glitches (at least I haven't encountered any). I live in Arizona and it gets pretty hot sitting up on my dash. It's never shut down or suffered any other fault due to excessive heat. Oh yah, and its water proof so I don't have to worry about it getting wet. The touch screen interface is very intuitive; in fact I don't see how other GPS's work without them. The unit comes with a large hard drive and lots of available space for MP3s. With the FM modulator it makes for a perfect combination for long road trips. But by far the best feature is the use of satellite overlay for the maps. You get all the same road maps but over the top of the satellite image rather than the standard background. At first I just thought it was a fun little gimmick but I've come to learn it has great practical application. I use it often when I'm in a parking lot or somewhere else that the maps don't cover. You can still navigate really well just with the satellite image. Very cool when you want to find an alternative route out of a parking lot of some huge event or even just the local Home Depot. The resolution is right up there with Google Earth and all the satellite images are stored right on the hard drive of the unit. Very cool.

br /Any complaints I have are relatively minor: It's not as attractive to look at as some; it's huge, probably could create a blind spot in certain cars; and doesn't have text-to-speech software; and since it doesn't have a battery, it has to be turned on every time you start the car. Like I said, these are all petty gripes.
br /
br /Definitely would buy this one again, and will always own some kind of GPS unit for me car.

The Lowrance iWay 600C is waterproof, can be used in a boat, or other wet, dusty, dirty or harsh environment. Heavy duty, industrial quality, shock resistant, great for 4x4ing or other demanding environments. 30Gig internal hard drive. Heavy, quality made unit. Has a 640x480 resolution VGA display, 5 inches diagonal. Displays satellite photographic images of earth with map overlays, as well as inland and coastal waterways with depth contours. Satellite imaging, with overlaid mapping is great...picture Googlemaps.com with hybrid map and satellite displayed, that's what you'll see on the iWay 600C. Also displays on-map topography. Display is configurable, drag and drop what you want, where you want. Plays MP3s. 5Gig of free space on HD for photos, music, whatever. Photos look nice one the 640x480 VGA screen. I recommend this unit.

I have had several GPS systems. This is by far the best. It has a clear LARGE screen, it can be configured to show whatever features you want, like contours of the land, Fast Food restaurants, and/or marine items. So far I have only used it in my car, but I plan to use it on the boat this summer. It is so nice to be able to tell the system to show me the way home, from whereever I am, and it does it. It does not even get upset if I take a wrong turn. It just patiently recalculates a route to get me to where I asked it to take me. Being able to turn off the voice is a nice feature when I am the passenger and just watching what we are passing.
