Where's My Car?/bbr The nüvi 700 series is the first to answer two common questions: "Where am I?" and "Where’s my car?"br /p pAt any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, all nüvi 700s automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount./p bbNew Features -- Multi-Destination Routing/bbr /bThis lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we're talking about).br br A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map. pbSee Better, See More/bbr The super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. br br The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.br /p bbFirst Rate Map Data/bbr /bAll nüvi 700s come preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. br p span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"Important note about map updates:/span Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. I previously had a nuvi 660 and left the unit in a rental car in Iowa. I waited to replace it until the 750 shipped at the end of last month. While I was waiting, I tried a Tom Tom and Magellon. The 750 far exceeds all of the other units. The earlier reviews give a pretty good run down on what is good about it. There are a couple of things that were not mentioned that I really like over the 660.
1. I like the feel of it better than the 660. It doesn't have the flip up antenna and seems more streamline and fits into my shirt pocket better. 2. The mounting unit is FAR superior than the one on the 660. I have rented cars 140 times so far this year, and the different windshield slants caused problems at times with the 660. The 750 mount allows greater rotation of the GPS for better viewing.
I didn't use the bluetooth on the 660, so I opted to not get it and purchased the 750 instead of the 760. I do disagree with an earlier review in that I greatly appreciate the traffic antenna and traffic routing. I travel mostly in major metro areas and it has helped me considerably. Fortunately when I lost my 660 I did not loose the traffic antenna or the electrical charger, both of which work on the 750. Is it worth $200? Probably not. But it has steered me around traffic jams and bridges that are out.
Also, one other neat feature that I haven't figured any usefull purpose for yet but that I like is that it lays down a pink line showing where you have been. Kind of like laying down bread crumbs.
There is NOTHING out there that is as good as the nuvi 700 series!

People here are obviously confusing the different unit model #'s. The Garmin 700 series covers the 750, 760, and 770. Obviously some of these folks got the 760 and think it's a 750. The 750, which this review space is for, is all silver, there are NOT different color choices. The 760 and 770 have a black finish around the screen. The 750 doesn't come with bluetooth and an included traffic reciever, which doesn't work that good at all and coverage is "spotty" at best. But for the additional $200 they're asking for these insignificant features, I'd recommend the 750 for 200 less. The 770 is the same as the 760 but comes with both N. American AND European maps installed.
These are Garmins top of the line Nuvi's and imo... the best portable gps's on the market. The big difference in the 700 series over last years 600 series is the inclusion of multi-destination routing. So if you're a delivery driver or someone that drives a different route with multiple stops each day, then the 700 series is for you. It can even optimize the stops to take the least amount of time. But if you only need to input 1 or 2 stops, then I'd go with the Nuvi 660. It has all the same features of the 760 (the one that's $200 more than the unit covered here) minus the multi-destination routing. Meaning it has both the bluetooth and traffic reciever included for less of a price than the unit on this page. I own both units and highly recommend either one based on your needs. If you've never owned a gps before, let me say that it doesn't get any more user friendly than Garmins' Nuvi series.
On a side note... stay away from the Garmin "C" series. Yes, they may be SLIGHTLY cheaper than the Nuvi 350 or 360, but what's inside cannot compare. The "C" series uses an outdated chip that requires direct line of site with the sky for satellite reception, meaning that tall buildings and trees WILL affect reception, and it's calculations are nowhere near as timely as what newer units offer. Not to mention, the "C" series has much older maps and is just plain old antiquated. If you're getting a new gps and spending hard-earned money on it, don't get something that's already out-dated. Whichever gps you decide on, make sure it has the SiRF chip in it. The SiRF chip is the defacto standard in the gps market by leaps and bounds. Hope I shed some light for those of you researching a new gps for the first time.

Not sure if this is better than my Streetpilot 2610

Been playing with this unit a bit and here are some first impressions.
I do not have enough experience with routing performance yet but I hope these impressions are useful nonetheless.
The good:
- aesthetically pleasing unit, it has a large screen and is thin and easy to put in a pocket and take with you.
- the screen is plenty bright and has a reasonable viewing angle
- the mounting system is sturdy
- unit is intuitive to use, this is good because the manual that comes with the unit is pretty pathetic
- SD card slot for MP3's, images or additional maps
- Contains maps of the entire US by default
- POI icons are 'customizable'
- spoken street names
- headphones jack, although driving and using headphones is not a safe thing to do, not sure how useful this feature is. Sound quality this way is good
- good runtime on batteries
- multiple destination routing
The bad:
- When using the FM transmitter your 'mileage' may vary, there is a lot of static on every channel I tried, this does not make for a pleasant listening experience. iPod transmitters definitely work better
- The sound quality of internal speaker is just plain bad
- Menus are intuitive for the most part but lack the simple feature of being able to get back to the map with ONE push of a button, be prepared to push 'back' an annoying number of times
- USB interface is slow
- overal the unit feels slow when drawing the maps
- unit converter? why? I use this device to navigate, not solve math problems
- screen real estate wasted by information I am not interested in, with no option to turn it off. The always present green bar and speed limits come to mind
However, what I subtracted 2 stars for is satellite reception, or lack thereof. This is supposed to be a high sensitivity receiver yet it acquires satellites no faster than my 2610. Satellite acquisition takes a ridiculous amount of time. My $200 Etrex Vista handheld acquires a lock in less than a minute, this $500 device needs 5-10 min to get a lock, assuming it acquires any sats in the first place. The best GPS unit is useless unless it acquires satellites fast and keeps a lock. The 750 does not do that. Even with an external antenna reception is not stellar.
Overal I do not know if I, at this point, would recommend this unit.
UPDATE:
- After going through Garmin techsupport and doing a master reset, satellite reception has improved a bit but is still nothing to be impressed with
- routing seems to be pretty good, not always the 'best' route but the unit will get you where you are going
- the GPS simulator is unable to complete a route that includes a ferry ride
UPDATE2
- The address database on the nuvi 750 appears to be less complete than the older City navigator v7 software.
I am sticking with 3 stars because I think the satellite acquisition issue is such an important thing for a GPS device.

Nuvi 750 is nice, but I think I'll go back to the Nuvi 650

Thanks for your feedback
I had a Nuvi 650 which I gave to my wife, and bought the 750 for myself. After using both units for a while, I think I much prefer the 650 at $299 than this 750 for $414. For one thing, being over 50 I found the screen fonts on the 650 much easier on the eyes than the 750's, which seem smaller and bolder. The 650 has a clean Arial Narrow type font. Also, there is a glitch with the 750 and satellite reception. Unless you go to Garmin and get the latest updates, your going to continue to have that slow satellite acquisition problem. The update fixed that. Now I found another problem and reported it to Garmin, and they state they will create a fix and send out yet another update. On the 750, as you're driving around, it does not show the names of golf courses, public parks, etc. as the 650 does. If you see a patch of green on the 750 as your driving, you have to touch it to get that parks name. A patch of green on your screen without a title does little good, so hopefully they will fix that soon. Also, my 750 does not show train tracks on the map, the 650 does. So, my dilemma now is do I return the 750 for another 650, or should I go with the 660 to eliminate my ear worn bluetooth device? We also have a StreetPilot C550 in the family and we have no complaints with that one. Someone here stated they were outdated and had old maps and so forth, but we haven't had a problem with it. Also, on the 650 touching the satellite bars brings up the screen right away. On the 750 you have to hold it down 6 seconds to see satellite meter readings and altitude, and that's a long time to hold it down if the car is moving. By the way, the 650 does show your altitude (some have said it does not). It's in the top center of the screen when you view the satellite readings. I also found the 650 to have a nicer, heavier feel and better build quality to it. The slightly slimmer 750 seems a bit on the cheap side to me for some reason, maybe it's the slightly different shape and curves, I don't know. I just liked the 650 much better myself, and the flip up antenna wasn't a problem since we only use it in the car. Take a look at the updates and downloads on the Garmin site. Even though the 750 is a newer model than the 650, there have already been a number of updates and fixes for the 750. The 650 hasn't had any requirement for firmware updates yet, or any other fixes that I can find.
Update: I returned the Nuvi 750 to Amazon and got a Nuvi 680 instead. I love the bluetooth feature and the MSN Direct feature is actually quite nice once it has loaded some data in. I like how it warns you of traffic up ahead, accidents or street closures, and it has been VERY accurate. I at first gave that feature an undesirable review, being inpatient and not using it enough before giving it a fair review. The weather, gas prices and movie times are nice too. Also, I find the 6xx series nuvi's have a nice screen, sharper, brighter colors than the 750 model. As of this writing, Garmin has not fixed the missing point of interest names in the 750. They still show a patch of green with no name for that particular park or golf course. Also, my 680 came with an AC charger AND a Garmin Leather case, all at a big box store warehouse for $399 in store.

Garmin nüvi 750 Auto Navigation System
we just picked up one of these yesterday. this is our first gps unit. as with all purchases i researched this to death.
this is one sharp unit. it's not silver as shown on garmin's website or here, rather it's a jet black (like a psp).
pros
1) the screen. it's readable in sunlight or at night and it's wide. that was the major factor in tipping this purchase over the nuvi 260.
2) performs well and simple to use.
3) you can select a qwerty data entry setup.
4) it looks great. very stylish.
cons
1) didn't come with a carrying case. i bought the garmin case that fits the nuvi 600 series. it works just fine.
2) not a lot documentation in the package and most of it isn't in english. the unit is simple to use and quite intuitive.
3) doesn't come with with an ac adapter however, it charged up on usb just fine.
4) price. these don't come cheap.
i rated this puppy a 5. the pros far outweigh the cons. would definitely reccomend this unit.
we just picked up one of these yesterday. this is our first gps unit. as with all purchases i researched this to death.
this is one sharp unit. it's not silver as shown on garmin's website or here, rather it's a jet black (like a psp).

I have owned a Garmin Nuvi 750 for two days now. I have been using it side by side with my Lexus built in navigation system to see how well it performs. In general, I have been impressed with this unit. The routes are generally accurate and the system is very easy to use. Typing in addresses is quick and simple. I did not need to read the manual before using the system for the first time. This is a good thing, since the "manual" is merely a quick start guide. The real manual is available on line, and even it is relatively skimpy.
The built in speaker sounds a bit tinny. The FM Transmitter is a nice idea, but I a finding that I hear a lot of static when I tune it to an FM station. In addition, I have to give up listening to the radio or a CD if I want to use this feature, so it does not seem like a terribly useful feature to me.
It took a long time to locate satellites the first time I turned the unit on. After the first use, it seems to average about 90 seconds to find enough satellites to begin giving routes. My Lexus navigation system always beats the Nuvi as far as how long it takes before it locks onto a satellite and begins giving me directions.
The screen is very bright and clear with the cigarette adapter plugged in. On battery mode the screen dims to an almost unreadable level to conserve battery power. I could not find a way to brighten it on battery power, but I may have missed something. Also, the power button is not really a power button. It is a "hold" button that doubles as a power button in certain circumstances, but it is not completely intuitive how to power on or off the unit.
I do not particularly care for the data displayed on the primary screen. It does not disclose the distance to destination or the actual speed being driven. It only indicates distance to the next turn or waypoint, which is a bit confusing in itself. You can get the remaining data on various other screens but you have to tap around a few times to get it all. It also displays the speed limit on the road you are driving - I can not figure out why this would be useful. It seems like they could have chosen some more useful choices for the primary screen.
These issues aside, it seems like a very nicely designed unit. My unit is glossy black. The 760 and 770 are silver, to clarify the question asked by another writer earlier.

I purchased this unit about two months ago. This is my first GPS system. Initially, I noticed the long satellite acquisition time. This was usually confined to the first boot-up of the day or after a long lay off. I continued to use the unit hoping it would improve. During that time, I really enjoyed the ease of use and accuracy. The POI database is great.
I contacted Garmin regarding the slow acquisition time at which point they directed me to perform a master reset. That did not help. After another week or two I obtained an RMA from Garmin and returned the unit. After a week, I received the fixed/replaced unit and now it acquires satellites in less than a minute and typically before it is finished booting up. The reception is better as well. Before, it would pick up 4 or 5 satellites. Now it typically recognizes 10-12 satellites.
As far as the SiRF chip...the 750 does not come universally equipped with the SiRF chip. It does have SiRF technology which means it uses the same software and same type of chip, just not the name brand SiRF. That is as explained from Garmin tech support.
Overall, I have been very pleased with the unit. Now that the satellite issue is behind me, I could not ask for more.
This is in response to some posts I've seen. To get back to main menu from several menus deep, hold the back button down for 1 or 2 seconds and it will return you to the main menu.

This is my first GPS, and so far I couldn't be happier. This device is easy to use. gives good accurate directions, and even tells you what side of the street your destination is on. I have been able to use the multiple destination function only once so far, but it worked well and optimized the route for the shortest time. This device includes Garmin's most up to date map software (North America NT 2008) and includes even some newer subdivisions in my area.
I decided I didn't require the features of the more expensive models (these include an antenna built into an alternative cigarette power cord for traffic alerts, bluetooth for cellphone handsfree conversations, an FM transmitter to hear cellphone and directions through the car radio, and euro maps) and I don't miss any of them.
This is a top of the line GPS unit and so far has met all my expectations.

My husband did a lot of research before we purchased this unit. We're planning a couple of extended road trips and really needed a good navi system.
br /
br /One thing we wanted was a system that wasn't intrusive. The Garmin 750 fits nicely on the dash of our car. It doesn't take up a lot of space like maps and with the optional accessory cradle below, which I highly recommend you can position the system in a variety of ways on the dash without having the tell-tale suction cup, which we've been told is one way criminals know you have a navigation system and will break in to steal it.
br /
br /Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for Nüvi Series and StreetPilot C5XX Series GPS Navigators (C530, C550 and C580)
br /
br /The "Where am I?" feature is great. If you ever call in to 911, this is the first information they want. If you're out on the road, sometimes you can't give them the best information. This feature tells you where you are exactly so help can come quickly.
br /
br /"Where's my car?" insures you will never have to ask yourself where have I parked. Just take your navigation system with you when you go walking and it will tell you where you left your car.
br /
br /You also have quick links via the menu to hospitals, police stations and fuel. The fuel was particularly critical this past weekend since our town had some gas shortages. We were able to find a gas station nearby that had fuel.
br /
br /One feature we thought we'd miss was lane assist. Actually, the voice directions are so good as well as the diagrams, it's hard to miss where you are supposed to be.
br /
br /We test drove the system through the Smoky Mountains National Park in various light conditions. A great feature of this system is that you can see what's happening with the road ahead and the display will prepare you for s-curves that may not be clearly marked (or even visible depending on conditions).
br /
br /The system accommodates nicely to nighttime vision. The background goes to black and the route is very clear.
br /
br /Recalculation of your route happens pretty quickly. Only once did we totally befuddle the unit when we took a turn early (on purpose).
br /
br /Points of interest are listed on the unit database. They are not always accurate, but most of the time they will get you close. We had to shop this week at a local chain store for some fabric for a friend. It was a LOT easier to use the navigation system for this purpose over the phone book or the store's website.
br /
br /Garmin has the ability to also use Google maps (maps.google.com) to allow users to find businesses and send a selected business to the GPS unit as a favorite. In most cases phone numbers are included. To navigate one only has to go to the Favorites folder of the GPS unit, select the entry, and then touch "Go". We made great use of this on our trip this last weekend.
br /
br /The voice on the system is clear and understandable. For the most part, it gets street names right. Note: we were in American Indian Country on this trip, so "Sequoyah" came out very interesting. Still, if you are hooked on phonics you can figure out what the system is saying and it's clearly readable on the display as well.
br /
br /MSNDirect is pretty useful. We like the movie feature since we're usually in the car away from the listings when we decide to catch a flick.
br /
br /Garmin GDB 50 MSN Direct Replacement Receiver for Nuvi 680 and StreetPilot c580
br /
br /A couple of downsides. The POI (point of interest) database needs updating. Some of the locations were out of date by several years. Some roads in our area also are not represented even with the most current maps. The voice directions are correct its just the screen representation is off. It will have you driving through a field and not on a road. :)

Great GPS with two flaws

I agree with all of the prior reviews that are specifically for the 750. This unit has great build quality, and the window mount is typical Garmin Perfect! It is a small and compact unit with a great big, bright screen that fits nicely in a computer bag while flying, and pops out for the window when you hop in the rental car. Great directions and it contains a ginormous list of points of interest in your location. The ability to program in multiple stops is also a great addition.
The two flaws include the time that it takes to acquire satellites and reception in downtown city environments. It can take more than 5 minutes on a clear day to acquire the satellites. When I am rushing off to the airport, I am forced to drive a few miles before it grabs onto the satellites and tells me what to do next. And in many cases, it will not have the right locations, tells you that it is re-calculating, and then gets it right. This is annoying. The other issue is that it has a hard time in a city with tall buildings. It does a lot of re-calculation.
Overall though, it is a fantastic unit that I very highly recommend. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the satellite acquisition latency. I actually would rate it 4.5 stars if I had that option.

I've only had it a couple of days but I am extremely pleased. As soon as I connected it to my computer to register the unit it updated the software. I've read all of the reviews, most of them were old and was a little hesitant. I'm glad I bought it! The language pronunciation was dead on, not like other brands I've used and heard. It acquires the satellites usually before the maps are finished loading. I had to go out of town today and it worked perfectly. On the way home I decided to alter the directions it had decided was the best route. As soon as I passed the turn it immediately said "recalculating" and took no more than 2 or 3 seconds to find the new route. I tried to trick it on 4 different occasions with the same results. My "other" brand did not work nearly as fast. Way to go Garmin! I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who doesn't want "all" of the bells and whistles (at a significantly higher cost) though this unit has most of them. I did not want bluetooth since I have a bluetooth headset for my iPhone. You can put photos on it and MP3 files. I really didn't need that either since I connect my iPod through my car's audio auxiliary input. The 750 will be the last GPS I need for a long time.

I've only had the nuvi 750 a little over a month and I haven't had the opportunity to use it on a long trip yet but I am very happy with it...for the most part. I have had three other GPS navigators, two Magellan and one Garmin C330 bought as an emergency back-up for a malfunctioning Magellan Roadmate. It was the cheapest thing I could find on short notice (old maps, slow response time) but it got me home flawlessly. So, when the Roadmate finally died after just two years and no help from Magellan, I did some homework and bought the Garmin nuvi 750 for its features.
br /My experience so far has been that it boots up quickly, locks on satellites quickly, and calculates routes as quickly as the fastest of my other navigators. It has by far the clearest, brightest, most readable screen (under all conditions) of any I've owned or used. One of the features I like is the speed limit display, on a long drive I'm focused on the driving and will suddenly realize I haven't seen a speed limit sign in a while,... question answered.
br /Touch "Menu" then "Tools" and among the menu options is "Where am I", it displays your current latitude and longitude, the name and location of the nearest cross street, and lists available emergency services. To me, that's worth the price all by itself.
br /The routes are accurate and, as far as I can tell, efficient. Unlike some comments, I don't worry about whether the route is the shortest, fastest, most efficient possible. It will never be as good as a knowledgeable human being. The point is, it gets me there and I'm not exhausted as I would be if I had to navigate from maps. The nuvi 750 is a major step up from all of the other GPS' I've owned.
br /On the down side, to make it so slim and sexy required compromises. The built in amplifier is feeble and the speaker is tinny and buzzy! Inexcusably poor. Fortunately, it has an earphone jack and a built-in fm transmitter which works very well if you tune to the lower end of the fequency range. Since that means you can't listen to anything else on the radio, I use a small sports radio clipped to my belt to monitor directions instead.
br /Another thing that seems to be characteristic of Garmen is a tendency to lag just a bit. I have to give Magellan credit, the display showed where I was in real time. Although the Garmin gives me turn directions in plenty of time, With both the visual display and voice instruction I'm often actually in the turn before it gives me the last "Turn right on", etc. A minor irritation.
br /Where it counts though it works beautifully, I have no complaints. In fact UPS just delivered the four more I ordered as Christmas presents.

I upgraded to the NUVI 750 from a Street Pilot (which I didn't like a lot better) and bought two of these units - one for myself and one for my daughter who is a realtor in DC.
i don't have a problem acquiring the satellite but, i have found the directions i am given to be a bit lacking. I was told to take a bypass route and when i did was told to turn around and go back. I have had this problem with other trips i have been on. I got to one location (one that i knew) and was told to turn left rather than right. If I hadnt known where i was going, I would probably still be looking for the restaurant. This is very frustrating, to say the least when you are, in fact, going somewhere that you are not familiar with.
The unit could not find my local supermarket - I was trying to find it through points of interest. When i entered the actual address, it said there was a Target at the address not the market - the Target has not been there for at least ten years. What worries me is what if i REALLY needed to find something, would i be able to? I can not find my way out of a paper bag which i why i got the unit in the first place. I am not encouraged
There is a place on the Garmin site where you can report routing errors.
[...]. The maps are upgraded annually @June/July but you have to pay for them.
My daughter is having problems getting satellite reception in DC - she often has to drive to Maryland or Virginia and says it can take 10+ minutes for the satellite to kick in - almost all the way to where she is going.
In general, i am underwhelmed but, it is better than nothing.

I purchased this for my wife. She is always concerned about not finding new places when she is driving. She tried this out and her reaction was "I'm going to like this."
This widescreen gps has a very clear and sharp view. This was important to her so she could clearly see what she needed without having to squint or search for the info while driving.
It is quite intuitive to use. Once you have set up your preferences (easy to do), you can merely find a location in the Points Of Interest (POI) or type in an address. The unit then draws a line from where you are to that location. It also provides a turn-by-turn list so you can preview if you wish.
Once you start moving, the icon moves with you showing the location you are on the map. The voice (multiple choices available) gives verbal direction as you get close to any turns. It also periodically confirms you are on the right track. I give turns by street name not merely saying "turn right next corner" (that was very important to my wife). It's basically that simple. Unless you want to change a destination, you do not have to touch the unit during the trip. You can even just listen and never look at the screen. It'll get you there.
As with any technology, it's not perfect. You can read a lot of Pro's and Con's on some of the other reviews. If you use this with a little common sense, you'll be very pleased. It seems to be quite accurate, flexible to use, and does not require a lot of "techno" sense.
Garmen is a top name in this field. You can buy a cheaper unit by Garmen or another maker, but if you get the Nuvi 750, you will be pleased.
Overall, I rate this a BUY.

I remember how often I managed to get lost while driving "BG." (Before Garmin). Now I just enter the address I want to reach - even if I've never been there - and depend on "Betty" (our name for our direction-giver on the Garmin) to get us there safely and on time. It's even reduced greatly my perusals of MapQuest. We are in our 70's and 80's and really appreciate the advance notices of turns, etc., especially whether a freeway exit is to the "right" or "left" here in Florida, as that can be tricky when you find yourself in the "wrong" lane for an approching exit. I can't praise this enough.
Impressive!

I bought the Nuvi 750 (piano black version from a leading electronics retailer) for my wife for Christmas and she absolutely loves it. It has given her the freedom to drive places she never would have ventured alone before, for fear of getting hopelessly lost.
The Nuvi has performed very well so far, we have not had any problems at all with satellite acquisition as reported by some reviewers, it is worth noting that mine appears to have SiRF technology - not sure whether this is the differentiator, but with the unit in the car, we have never had to wait more than 15 seconds, from a cold start, to get the "Ready to Navigate" indication. The directions are usually spot on, when it needs to recalculate a route it does so quickly. I have found in one or two instances that the Nuvi lost its way temporarily for no apparent reason, but every time it got back on track within a matter of seconds.
The MP3 player is no iPod but it is usable - while it only recognizes MP3 files, it is easy to make playlists on the computer and transfer it to the Nuvi. A feature that I like is that the Nuvi will actually pause the music while announcing, not merely mute it. I have not tried the FM transmitter yet and probably won't, I suspect it will work as poorly as the rest where we live. I use the audio out connector on the Nuvi to connect directly to the stereo system in the car.
For us the most useful feature is the excellent way Garmin has implemented the points of interest database - it beats the 3-year old integrated GPS in my car hands down. The ability to type the name of a store and quickly get a list of all the locations close to where you are has been very helpful to us. We love our Nuvi!

We're pleased with the Garmin 750 GPS. It's able to get you almost anywhere you want to go - except our house and a friend's house in a small rural community, but that's true of all GPS units. The sticky base no longer adheres to the dash, after just 2 days of high temperatures, but one of the friction bases should solve that problem. The portabilty is a money saver with 2 cars, alternately used for longer trips, and the larger screen is a plus for my husband who has large fingers and can't type on the smaller screens. I'd recommend this product, just don't throw away all your maps.

This is one smart little box. It has a lot of information just on one page. The map page shows you the speed limit of the road you are on. This is a feature I like, because speed limits are always changing. It tells you how far it is to your next turn. It has a bright display for day and night and the screen is large. You can park your car somewhere and when you are ready to go back, it will lead you right to it. The female voice tells you the approximate arrival time. It tells you the names of the streets to turn on, not just to turn right ahead. Of course, you can program any voice man or woman in any language.
br /
br /It does not have bluetooth, so that doesn't matter to me, because I do not use it. You can down load music and play it over your car speakers. I like this feature very much. The satellites come on fast enough for me.
br /
br /This is my first GPS unit I have purchased, and hope it will be my last.
br /
br / I bought this unit to get me from A to B, and it has not let me down. All the other bells and whistles on it are nice. Just as soon as I figure them out, I'm sure I will like it even more.

I have had the unit for 6 months and bought it for a move to a new place where I would have to be driving to many unfamiliar locations. For the most part, the multipoint routing and such works OK, although the steps to program all the points seems more tedious than it needs to be. And then I started finding strange things, like a major Southern California post office that had been built seven years ago in a large town is not in the database (the post office on Hovely in Palm Desert). A 5-year-old home address I tried to find was not to be found -- not even the street it was built on, and that was in central Tucson.
br /
br /To make matters worse, after owning it for only 6 months, I get an email that to get the updated 2009 database, presumably containing all the points that should have been there all along, I am supposed to pay another $70 on top of the $430 I paid when it came out? C'mon! At least give free updates for a year!! At least it costs less to buy the upgrade from Amazon than from Garmin.
br /
br /Satellite reception definitely improved with the software updates, but is still sluggish sometimes even with sunny, unrestricted skies - or can't locate satellites at all. And strangely it often asks me to do unnecessary things like drive past my destination, sometimes half a mile farther, do a U-turn and return a half a mile back again to turn right into a parking lot -- when a simple left turn would have done just fine.
br /
br /Now that the first excitement of the device has worn off and I have had enough time to see all these quirks, overall I am underwhelmed. The device itself (hardware, aesthetics, durability, etc.) is good but the software is not up to par, and a GPS is only as good as its software. A price of $250 with at least a year of free upgrades would seem a better value.

After reading the reviews here, I was very concerned about buying this product as a gift because of the negative reviews related to satellite problems, but it was on sale locally at a price that was hard to turn down. I decided I'd try it out before giving it as a gift, and if I had problems I'd take it back.
So far the nuvi 750 has been performing very well. It took about 45 seconds to get enough satellites the first time I used it, and every time since then I've never had to wait on it. It makes a big difference if I have it mounted on the windshield (and the windshield mount supplied with it works great). If I'm holding in my hand between the front seats, it's not so great, so I don't know how well it would work if you plan to mount it low on the dash or on a center console.
It has performed almost perfectly so far on picking out routes and tracking my progress on them. The only problem was a very minor one where I'd pulled into a mall parking lot to get to my destination that it directed me to, but once I was in the parking lot it was telling me to pull back out on the road. On the other hand it seems to know that my house is at the end of a long winding driveway about 300 ft from the road because just as I approach the house itself it says "Arriving at...". Here in Texas we have service roads parallel to the highways, and I'm impressed with how it knows where the ramps are how it times its notice to me to pull onto the ramp.
The graphics are pretty good, and the brightness of the screen is always good, day or night. I've used the POIs only a couple of times, but it looks like they'll be really useful as kind of a yellow pages. I was also able to choose a destination by browsing the map by dragging it and then tapping on the map to select my destination. I agree with the other reviewer that the sound quality of the speaker is not impressive. But I've got it on max volume now to hear it over my radio. It did sound better at lower volume.
I can't explain why I've had such good satellite performance when so many others have had trouble. Before buying it, I googled "nuvi 750 sirf" and read a handful of discussions about whether or not the 750 has the sirf chip for satellite reception. There are stories that Garmin tried a proprietary chip for the 7xx series and quit using the sirf chip (which is in the 6xx series). Sirf has an outstanding reputation. Some people said that some 7xx units have sirf and some do not. I saw tips on how to find out what my unit has, but I couldn't get the instructions to work for me. I have no idea whether I have sirf or not, but it's working great so far (depending on where it's mounted).

I just got a job as a driver for a local pizza place(Cincinnati) and after MUCH research bought the nuvi 750. After checking Consumer Reports, CNET and the automotive department at Circuit City, they all recommended the nuvi 660. I needed the multi-point routes for delivery and I didn't need the bluetooth so much so I opted for the 750. The FM transmitter I found to work GREAT for where I live. I found a station that is clear and perfect for the FM transmitter (106.7). I bought Microsoft Streets & Trips '07 and trips about 6 months ago and broke it. This 750 is MUCH more sensitive than the Streets and Trips. The menus are easy to navigate and are extremely easy to read. The screen is bright and big. It is big but not too big to put in my pocket with it's case on.
Pros-
-Bright clear easy to use 4.3 inch screen
-Ideal size
-Easy to Navigate menus
-Great Accuracy
-Built in Antenna
-Amazing price on amazon
Features
-FM Transmitter
-MultiPoint Destinations
-SD Card slot(up to 4Gb)
-Media player(MP3 Player and Picture Viewer)
-Plentiful points of interest (POI)
-Easy to add Favorites
-Easy to switch vehicle icon. (garmin.com/extras can change your vehicle on your GPS)
-Preloaded Maps of North America and Canada
Cons-(Most you can find in other models)
-No Bluetooth
-No voice recognition(800 series)
-No remote
-No Dead Reckoning (continue to track even without GPS, like in a tunnel)
-No Included MSN Direct or FM Traffic cable
-No sleep button or turn off screen button. (nice for deliveries)

Overall I think the product is great. I have not had any trouble picking up a signal quickly like some of the reviewers.
One thing that really annoys me, though, is the fact you can't list your favorites in alphabetical order. I will use most of the 500 favorites allowed and when they aren't in alphabetical order it makes it very difficult to quickly find what I'm looking for.

I've used a number of GPS over the years, beginning with Garmin's "hand held moving maps" GPS (for pilots) when they first came out...yes they were huge compared to today's models...sort of like the first cell phones. This is my second Nuvi. I loved the first one, even with its quirks and issues was heads above all the other GPS devices I had rented or used. I won't make this a technical review for the 750 since that is well covered by other reviewers. My main motivation for upgrading to the 750 was the multi-point trip routing feature. I have used it to road trip across the country. I have used it to map out complex driving itineraries in town (Miami and other big cities). And I have used it to navigate out of "hopelessly lost" situations in the country, the city, and even an island or two (the US Virgin islands *are* included in the US maps database).
br /
br /I am a wedding photographer and am often driving (in a big hurry) from unknown location to unknown location on wedding days. Imagine; airport/rental car to my hotel to bride's house (or hotel) to scenic place to religious place to resort/reception place to my hotel... and so it goes. I am generally trying to beat the limo driver from place to place, but am at a significant time disadvantage because I have to gather gear, manage my assistants and other photographers and I sometimes have to wait for a valet to get my car. Now, I have everything pre-programmed into the Nuvi 750 and with the push of a few buttons, I am efficiently on my way to the next destination. My routine used to involve mapping it all out on google maps or mapquest and printing and highlighting and maybe getting there early to drive the route once before the day begins, etc. When I run into the occasional traffic jam or road block/construction, I just tap the "find alternative route" function and within seconds, I am on my way (this always presented a problem with the printed maps). I still print from google maps as a backup, but it is rare that I need them.
br /
br /A couple points worth mentioning:
br /
br /1) I do not use the radio, mp3, photo, or other accessory type features, I have no interest in them and can not comment on them. I use the 750 for its navigation and search features.
br /
br /2) GPS's in general do require some problem solving skills and common sense. They do occasionally take you to the wrong place, sometimes, it is the fault of the GPS and sometimes it isn't. Case in point; the street address for a yacht marina (where I was to cover a ritzy boat party) brought the nuvi to the gated back service entrance (which was several miles away from the main entrance). The gate guards informed me that the back entrance would not get me to the boat I needed to get to) and they did not have an address for the front entrance. The Nuvi database was not finding the main entrance to the marina, even with a name search. My google maps printout also went to the back entrance. The turn by turn directions from the gate guard's broken English was too complex and unclear. My iphone did find it, and that is how I ultimately got back on track. Frustrating situations like that do happen.. and not always in safe areas. The point of this little story is that it is a good idea to have a back up (no matter what GPS you have), even if that is just someone you can call in a pinch.
br /
br /My husband tends to think that his Nuvi is fail-safe and he is continually caught off guard when it leads him astray (all the technology in the world is not going to change the fact that most men do not like to ask for directions!) I also carry laminated area maps with me for those cloudy/stormy days when the Nuvi might not have a consistent signal (which doesn't happen often/maybe twice in the past year.. I am always impressed by how strong the signal is despite cloudy/stormy conditions).
br /
br /A couple more features about the 750 that I especially appreciate:
br /
br /-automatic dimmer/color adjustment feature when it gets dark outside (no more "give away" glaring bright GPS screen lighting up your car when it is dark
br /out!).
br /-stable/compact/low profile/portable and easily removable window mount/charging unit (makes it a snap to travel with and get quickly set up in rental cars). tip: Adding a drop of water to the window suction cup before you install it will give it a tighter longer lasting seal.
br /-the slim profile of the 750 makes it easy to take with you. When parking or valet, I never leave mine visible in the car. I take it with me or store it in the car console out of sight. Portable GPS units attract "smash and grab" thiefs like ants to a picnic. Therefore, the following features were also important in my decision to purchase the 750;
br /
br /-low profile/minimal footprint while mounted
br /-easy and discreet to mount/dismount
br /-fits easily into purse, pocket, belt pouch, car console, or glovebox
br /
br /From the hazy foggy Pacific Northwest, to the smog filled asphalt valleys of NYC. From the snowy Rocky Mountains to the stormy flat lands of South Florida, the Nuvi 750 has been a stellar little navigator for me. Highly recommended!

This product is very easy to use. Right out of the box I was able to put it to use. What I like is it shows the cross streets so you know you are on the right path. Now I am relaxed when I am driving a new route. I know my GPS will alert me when my exit is approaching.

I did my research and decided on the Garmin Nuvi 750. I was going to Salem, Mass. and was it ever a lifesaver. The streets are laid out very differently there from what I am used to and the garmin got me everywhere and back to the motel, even when I didn't follow directions. He would re-calculate and we had fun. For the first time I wasn't afraid of getting lost in a strange place. This boosted my confidence and off I went. Won't be without it again.

When researching many GPS units, I found such a variety of opinions. Some seemed to love their GPS, others seemed to act like it was the worst gadget on earth! So I just looked for the unit with the features I wanted and a reasonably high rating on various consumer product rating sites. Once I decided, I bought the Garmin 750, going into it realizing that no product is or will ever be perfect, especially one in this category. I almost laughed reading some of the reviews because people seem to expect perfection, and if they don't get it they go on this verbal rampage. This is true in many other consumer product categories too.
br /After using this unit for a few months, I appreciate the POIs and the fact that you can save so many. My wife and I took a short trip to Chicago. The unit worked as expected and never mislead us. I was even more impressed the next day as we were walking around the city, using the GPS 'Pedestrian' mode. I will admit the satelite signal was lost on occasion amidst the tall buildings, but for the most part we were able to navigate the city more easily and take advantage of the POIs once again. A very helpful feature when in a strange city. All in all, I would recommend this unit.

Nuvi 750 is an improved GPS than its predecessor, 6xx series. Its touch screen and well designed simple menu make GPS navigation very easy. I found that the pre-loaded places of interests often useful, too.
Features I like: It has a good 3D Auto-map as other Garmin car navigation units; Portable (compared with Street Pilot series) as it just fits inside my pocket; No external antenna compared with Nuvi 6xxx; Wider screen compared with Street Pilot series: It has a good multi-media player which is handy as a portable device; The stand for the car is better than the one which comes with Street Pilots; Announcing can be changed to different dialects and languages; By downloading appropriate maps, it can be used in different regions on the globe.
Features I miss: Bluetooth capability (available with Nuvi 760 but I did not think it was necessary at purchase of this unit); No provision for tunnel exits (it should indicate the name of the exit and the distance to travel when the car enters a lengthy tunnel and the car is to get out of one of the intermediate exits other than the end of the tunnel).
Unavoidable: Inaccuracy near skyscrapers or under overhangs of freeways. Needless to say that the unit does not work inside buildings or underground although you may wish it would navigate you even in those circumstances since it is a portable device.
Cons: It comes pre-loaded with the North America NT map set and the map set cannot be uploaded to your PC for the use with Garmin Map Source software. If you wish the map set to be used with Map Source, you need to purchase a separate CD of the same map set. It of course costs you extra.
Not tested: It is supposed to have a capability to respond to the FM traffic information, but I have not tested this feature.

This is my first portable GPS in 10 years. They've come a long way baby. It sure beats the 7 or 8 cd set I got (paid upgrade) with my Expedition.
The screen is great, easy to see and read. User Interface is intuitive - though I agree with another reviewer it would be nice to have a button to go back to map view, instead of having to hit back multiple times.
I'd have given it 5 stars if the mapping didn't have errors. First I came across was the wrong name and directions of an off ramp. Second is my community has been around for more than 80 years, there has been a stop light at my intersection for the 17 years I've lived here, yet it tells me to go 1/2 mile beyond and do a U - turn. That's not helpful to anyone using garmin and coming to my home.
The only other complaint - if I start moving this unit can't seem to grab the satelite signal. If I stay still for 2-3 minutes it works just fine.
Overall I think it's a pretty nice unit. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Keep you eye on the price.... It went down 15 dollars after I bought it, now 10 days later it's $20 higher than what I paid, making the price shift about 50 - down then up in less than 2 weeks.

Having used and owned several GPS systems over the past 10 years or so, the Garmin 750 is the easiest to use, the easiest to view, and the best full featured package of any I've had experience with. (includes Magellan, Tom Tom, & Delorme.
A few if the metropolitan routes it calculates tend to prefer surface streets instead of Interstate or Freeway highways, though. For that matter all of the above units I've owned also preferred surface roads as well.
Exceptional battery life, the ability to transmit FM into my car's stereo, and the text-to-speech features make this unit a standout among peers.

This is my first real GPS coz my first one was just a piece of software that ran on my Pocket PC some 7 years ago!
If you have no problem waiting over 5 minutes to have the nuvi 750 lock on to Satellites, despite having clear skies above your head, then go ahead, buy it if you don't mind the cost of course.
Mind you, you can drive a good number of miles towards, or away from your destination before this 'thing' can start working! Very frustrating which is why I knocked off two stars!
Also, it does lose its sense of direction at times so, you might need to stop/restart your trip on it to make come back to its senses.
I liked the auto-switch to/from day/night display.
I disliked the screen locking and power-up mechanism where I had to agree with the legal policy every time I turned it ON!
The points of interests are not very accurate and its map is not quite up to date. It doesn't have the Monroe, Louisiana new streets details but then, Google too, doesn't have them!
Too expensive for what I was expecting from Garmin at $500 USD!

As a whole I like the Garmin 750. I like the ability to put in routes with multiple stops (waypoints) which is one of the key reasons I purchased this model. Its graphics are nice and the turn instructions are timely. This 'review' may sound like I hate the unit which is not the case but, I believe in pointing out areas where the unit could be improved. I have listed those areas below.
- The unit does not steadily display the current street being traveled. While there are those that believe that its only the next turn that is important (the next turn is always displayed at the screen top), to me it is important to also know the current road. You could push a button or 2 to display the current road but, in my opinion it should always be displayed.
- I like to view highway travel in 2 dimensional mode. When on the highway in 2D, the current route is not always displayed. The closer the setting is to ground level, the route number rarely, if ever, appears. All you see is the line/road, passing streets, and car on the display. If you change the scale to view the display from a higher 'altitude' then the route information appears on a more regular yet still intermittant basis. Again, seeing the current route at all times is important to me. I don't like to have to wait until the unit randomly decides to display it. When glancing at the unit I expect this information to be there. In 3D mode the route number seems to appear on a more regular basis but, if you don't want to view the roads in 3D its meaningless.
- The transmitter is unusable for me. The signal is not strong enough for my radio antenna to pick it up. I drive a somewhat small vehicle (Vibe) and the signal is not strong enough to get from the transmitter on the windshield to the antenna resting on the rear part of the roof. Mostly static is all that is heard with a hint of a voice from the Garmin unit.

We recently purchased a Garmin 750 to use on our trip to Florida from Illinois. There were certain unclear functions not completely described in the booklet we received. We called the assistance number at Garmin and lo and behold we talked to a REAL person on our first attempt--no punch in this number and then another. Our trip was made easier by having the Garmin with us. My husband always was alerted which side of the highway he should be on when going on an off ramp or changing routes. This is so helpful in heavy traffic and unfamiliar territory.
Once more, on our return, we had another question and lo and behold we still received an answer from a REAL person on our first attempt.
To us this is worth the cost of this Garmin product.

Really like this GPS. The screen is bright and clear and the operation is very intuitive. Only problems are the time that it sometimes takes to acquire satellites. It seems to take even longer if the unit has to start from a different place than its last location.
Horrible Signal if you live in Capital City with big building, trees, and big houses!

I love Garmin, I have used 300 and 400 series before I decided to go and buy Nuvi 750. I thought it was pretty cool to get rid of those flip up antenna. I was also interested with the better software features such as "multiple routing(Plan Ahead) and Where am I?" I used this GPS in few countries and few cities by now.
I would say Nuvi 750 HAS GOT THE WORST SIGNAL RECEIVER out of all other Garmin models I have tried. Don't get me wrong. When I was in California and Nevada for a few weeks, I thought the signal Nuvi 750 was marvelous. I was able to lock into the satellite fairly quickly within minutes. But the minute I drove to downtown LA, I started to experience signal problem.
I also felt the problem was growing when I was driving in Montreal Canada. It took almost 15minutes to lock into the satellite in the car. But The worst was when I took this Nuvi 750 to Jakarta, Indonesia which considered to be a very crowded, polluted, and heavy traffic with high building city. I WAS IN MADNESS. In LA, it took me only a few minutes to lock into the satellite, but in Jakarta especially when I was inside a moving car, I couldn't lock in at all, even after ½ hour of placing Nuvi 750 on the dashboard. Once, I got the signal locked in, I still experienced a lot of "loss satellite reception" problem.
I didn't experience this problem with previous Nuvi models with flipped up antenna.
The Good News is: The problem could be rectified COMPLETELY by buying GA25 MCX Garmin external antenna. It's such an exceptional antenna for the price. Now, I could even get signal with Nuvi 750 in the building, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Honestly, if you live in the city, it's very hard for me to recommend Nuvi 750. Better get 600 series. I'm not sure if 800 series inherits the same problem. Signal is a very IMPORTANT part of GPS. Without signal, no matter how good the features your GPS have, you won't be able to use it at all.
UPDATE: I would like to say that Firmware 2.6 really solved the problem with Garmin 750 TTFF in most cases. I would change the rating to at least 3 stars if possible.

This GPS device is perfect. You'll never get lost again! The only thing that makes a GPS bad, is a low quality map. But this is not garmin's fault.

Just got back from 1st trip with a Garmin 750. Locked on to sat. with in a few seconds (20 sec longest). very clear voice with directions(and I am hard of hearing). I tend to take side trips the unit rerouted me back on track every time very fast. I had no problems and was very pleased with the 750.

I gave a Garmin Nuvi 750 to my hubby as an early Christmas gift after he had a harrowing experience in Jersey City. He called me from the road and I asked him how the Garmin was working for him. His reply: "God, Garmin and my wife! What would I do without them?!". It didn't bother me that Garmin usurped my position briefly as I was delighted that he was able to find his middle of the night destinations to unknown places in unknown cities with poorly marked streets because his NUVI 750 guided him right to the door! Er....make that DOCK. In the past 4 weeks he has been to TX, IL, TN, SC, OH, Maine, PA, MI, IN and WI amd points in between....AND not necessarily in the previous order stated. He NEVER GOT LOST ONCE. By the way. What is a SIRF?

Pros:
-Great routing. Best GPS I have owned in terms of the routes it calculates. In the end it was so good on this feature that I had to buy it.
-Great text-to-speech with very clear directions.
-Multiple POI routing with optimization
-POI filtering by spelling is awesome!!! Best on the market from what I can tell.
-Good MP3 player.
-FM transmitter works, but hard to find a channel without noise. Needs a stronger signal.
-Map switches from 3D view to 2D N up option when user selects the screen.
Cons:
-Does not maintain lock on GPS signal in downtown Chicago as well as Magellan Maestro 4250 which never lost the signal. Still much better than the older Garmin units. Much better than StreetPilot 2610.
-Missing Built-in AAA tourbook.
-POIs not as good as the AAA ones available in Magellan Maestro 4250
-No Ding sound when you should be turning!!! easy to miss turns.
-No Bluetooth. Garmin wants to charge way too much for this feature.
-No FM traffic receiver
-Missing feature to see what services are available at upcoming exits.
-Missing ability to view POIs on the map.
-NO free POI updates
-No place to enter AAA help/Membership number on emergency screen as in the Megellan 4250.

Solid GPS, great Magellan RoadMate replacement, some oddities

I've had the unit one week and so far love it. My Magellan RoadMate 700 completely died after 2-1/2 years, two costly map updates, and one very costly out-of-warranty factory repair. The nuvi 750 has proven to be an excellent replacement. I've enjoyed much quicker satellite acquisition, including from inside my home...nothing at all like the slow experiences of others. I also am able to get solid, clear reception using the FM transmitter to the car radios in two cars, though typically do not need to use this feature. Many other reviews have documented the plusses/minuses but for me the unit is all that I expected and need.
I do wish to share a few oddities I had not expected from my experiences transitioning from the Magellan: (1) there is no a/c adapter included; this is very strange to me as even the non-battery-powered Magellan came with this. You will want one...buy it separately. (2) "Favorites", called "Address Book" on the Magellan, are the addresses you add to the system, are sorted in order of increasing distance from home. This is a strange sort choice as it makes finding a favorite a sequential process of looking at every address, very counterintuitive...alphabetical order would be the most straightforward in my opinion, and there seems to be no way to change this. Also, there is no way that I've found to enter a favorite other than keying it in. You can't, for example, upload selected destinations from Outlook; there is, however, a points-of-interest loader (free download) that might help though I've not yet tried it.
(3) the routings I chose to use are those generated in "fastest" mode. They are not always the fastest routing and lean very heavily on Interstate roads even when the extra mileage takes longer in time than a non-Interstate route. (4) the maps can show 5 levels of detail with some increase in display time at the higher levels. I've not found any noticeable delay and the extra NavTech details have proven very helpful in some trips. (5) the automatic software updater, a free download from garmin.com to keep the unit software and voices patched and current, works very well. Even though only a week old, the software on my unit was two releases back and the upgrade to v2.60 happened quickly and without incident. This is the software that runs the unit, and is not the maps themselves, which are current until the next update expected in the summer.
Summary: does all I want and much more that I will likely never use (MP3 player, photo viewer). Screen size of 4.3" makes quite a difference vs. 3.75" on other units, more noticeable than I expected of just a 1/2 inch. Very portable, works on a domestic airplane flight, all good.

I am very happy with my purchase. It is my second GPS and the technology has certainly advanced in the last three years. I added the friction mount to my system because the window suction cup mount put the unit too far away to conveniently touch the screen from the driver's seat.
Dealing with Amazon.com couldn't have been smoother. I will purchase from Amazon again with out hesitation.

I had purchased a competitors brand GPS which I had for a month. After compatibility problems I returned it and got the Garmin Nuvi 750. It does all it's supposed to do and works well with my Apple computer. At first I didn't want to pay the higher cost for the Garmin, but as with most things you get what you pay for.

I have been using this GPS for the last several months. I picked it for the user interface, which is simple to use, and picked the 750 over less expensive models in the nuvi line for some of the multiple waypoints, routing and voice to text features it has.
As soon as I got it I uploaded the latest software and the lock times for satellites have been very fast. Well under 15 seconds for me and within 16 feet accuracy. Its an amazing unit and I really recommend it. The standard mounting unit that is provided for front window mount works just great! I do wish they had a way to provide concealed wiring but I will have to figure that out just like I did with my radar detector. I just hate wires going all over the place, its a personal thing.
I find, since I already have an ipod, I could live without the mp3 capabilities, picture viewing, etc. I don't live in a congested enough area to need to traffic features but I'm glad they are there if I ever do.
Its a great unit and I got a great price at amazon...way below the big box stores!

Bravo. This is my third Garmin GPS - might as well stay with the best. First one was built into an iPod and was tough to operate. Second one was used for 2 years ( a C-350 ) and it was good, but made a few mistakes. Now the Nuvi has straightened out all of the mistakes. I would like all to note though- that I use an ouside antenna on my van. This magnetic soda bottle cap sized gadget is almost mandatory. I can put my GPS anywhere in the car I want and still receive superb performance becausee I'm always looking at all of the satellites. Garmin has it as an option, but other companies make them a lot cheaper - they are all good. I bought the bare-bones 650 model ( no blue-tooth ) and it's the same as a Nuvi 750 - even talks through your car stereo speakers. Excellent product that is more useful to identify your route than to plan a route. It does not always route you the best route. It is very helpful to download the owner's manual which I did not find even mentioned in the product package.

I have had this unit for 1 month, and i am completely satisfied with it. It is ready to navigate in under 1 minute. The only complaint I have is that the suction cup holding the unit to the windshield, sometimes, self releases itself from the windshield while driving and it falls. Other than that it is an excellent unit.

I purchased this unit for business (Realtor) so that I could program multiple destinations without creating separate routes and it works like a charm, with good resolution both during the day and at night. The only problem is that the volume control is not on the outside so you can't turn it down while driving.
I recently took a trip to Phoenix and found the unit very helpful in locating restaurants, gas stations and banks. We also used it for general shopping with great results!
If you are a first-time GPS buyer, you can't go wrong with this one. If you are a repeat buyer, you likely won't be disappointed either.

This has become my savior, since I moved to a new area recently. I never used to believe in these gadgets, but this is one item that every directionally-challenged individual should get.
br /It's important to get one like the 750, which specifies the street names, it stops you from having to look at the screen, and taking your eyes off the road.
br /On the whole, it's fairly accurate. The challenge is usually when it starts up, it's doesn't really clearly indicate where you are, so you take pot luck on the direction, until you hear the slightly annoyed female voice announce 'Recalculating'...! It does do a great job getting you back on track.
br /The maps are not that clear, and for some reason do not point in the same direction that you're driving. However THE VOICE is assuredly confident with the directions, that it is practically void.
br /Unless it's just me not knowing how to use the POI or address correctly, sometimes it's difficult to pick up locations for specific shops, and the database is not up to date with all places. (understandably shops spring up (and close) all the time.
br /In summary, I'm very pleased with the Nuvi 750, though I wish it came with a cover included already.

Good price, easy to use and configure
br /No need for big configurations before use, just turn it on type in the address and go (if using the SD Card with maps for other countries, it may need to access the menu to disable the internal USA infos and enable the foreign country infos from the SD Card).
br /
br /Design is better now using internal antenna (no more retractable tab behind used as antenna on older models of Nuvi)
br /
br /Easily update the software through the Internet when connected to your home-pc during the registration process.
br /
br /Comes with a good solution to mount out of the windshield which is a pad adesive in one side and flat on the other so you can glue it anywhere and use the flat side to fix the GPS Support just like done in the windshield.
br /
br /The new Support kit makes very easy to take the GPS with you with no need to detach cables that stay fixed to the support when you detach only the GPS.

We have been using the 750 for a few months and have had good success with it. We like its ability to sort a number of waypoints for quickest or shortest routes. Sometimes, though it has been a little slow announcing turns, but, when driving at posted speeds, that problem is minimized. ( I hope the police don't review these.) My brother-in-law has a similar one and he calls it a marriage saver. His wife likes it because her husband argues with the Garmin and not her. We find our way around unfamiliar places a lot more easily now and our traveling is more relaxed. I chose Garmin as we have their GPS for our boat and it has been performing flawlessly for 5 years.

I originally was going to purchase one of the lower model Garmin's, but I really wanted some of the features on the 750, I especially liked the fact that it did not require a flip up antenna. I'm very pleased I spent a little more and got the better unit, the features are great, the unit itself is very slick and the controls are intuitive. The one fault I found with the unit is the Fm transmitter, it is basically useless. I was unable to get anything that could be considered audible to play though my speakers in the car on any station, (I use an FM tuner on my iPod and it is great, get clear sound all over town), but that really seems like a dumb add on feature anyway and is obviously a very low wattage tuner. Overall though this product is well worth the money and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a GPS.

I've extensively tested this on two long trips in unfamiliar territory. It worked flawlessly. Acquiring satellites has a lot to do with where you are. In the city it takes a bit longer. But I'm never in that much of a hurry. In both highway and rural situations, I felt you got a long enough verbal warning of an upcoming turn. I had several situations where I was with a "local" and they scoffed at the directions saying there were turns shown that didn't exist, but they did exist.
br /
br /Complaints? A few minor ones. It keeps track of all the places you've found and navigated to. You can clear them but it's all or nothing. I'd like to be able to select which ones I deleted. There were also some POIs it should have known but didn't. Notably a 10 year old hotel in Seattle. I could never get the FM broadcast thing to work where you get the instruction through the car radio. Too much static. But I'm hearing impaired and could plainly understand all verbal instructions.
br /
br /The times I was most pleased was coming into a large unfamiliar city to go to a museum. Instead of nervously looking for signs or trying to navigate to a particular part of town, you felt confident as it routed you flawlessly to your destination.
br /
br /One tip for those buying this device. I also got a mounting clip available here but cheaper elsewhere that connects to the ball on the back of the mounting plate and then has alligator looking clips that slide into the horizontal (doesn't work with vertical) air vents on your dashboard. This worked very well in different rental cars and was stable and held it over bumps and uneven roads. Lots easier than the windshield suction cup with no telltale marks for car thieves to target.

I have owned this unit for about 3 weeks now and thought it was time I shared my two cents worth.
After reading the reviews before purchasing my 750 I was greatly concerned with some of the comments I had read regarding long satellite acquisition times, tinny sound from the speakers and poor navigation at times. Over the years I have bought several other Garmin devices (60CS and Forerunner 305) and absolutely love their products. In 3 1/2 years of using their products I have never been disappointed so thought I would take a chance based on past experience and give it a try.
WOW, what a device! Once again Garmin has come through big time. With my biggest concern being long satellite acquisition times I was very please when I first powered the unit on and walked outside that it acquired my position in less than 60 seconds. Thinking maybe I had gotten lucky I decided to put it to the test. By traveling to other areas with the unit turned off I would then turn it on to see if I could duplicate the problems others are claiming but have had no success in doing so. It has never taken more than a minute to acquire a position and show me my exact location, in fact most times I would say it is closer to 40 - 45 seconds.
Speaker quality I find is excellent. This is my first GPS navigator of any kind that speaks turn by turn directions so maybe I'm speaking from ignorance because I have nothing to compare against. That being said, text to speech on this device is very clear, understandable and volume is good. Volume level is currently set at 80%.
Navigation is bang on. There have been times when I have thought that it was going to miss the mark but it has always performed as expected and location has always been accurate.
The one thing negative that I do have to say has to do with the POI's. Although current with relatively new restaurants in our area, it also list several that have been out of business for more than a year. One has been gone for almost 5 years. I would think they could do a better job of keeping things current and I assume this would be typical for other places as well.
Screen is bright and clear and easy to read in almost any lighting condition. At sunset the screen automatically back lites to make it easy to see. The 750 of course only comes in silver but looks great. Additional vehical icons can be downloaded from Garmin's website.
I give this baby a two tumbs up!!!

Setup was very quick and simple to use. Can find addresses without the state or city input. Screen is very bright and the Where am I feature is great.
Cons:
There is no case included (Bought a Lowepro 50 camera bag)
No AC power adapter???
Friction mount works great in my Audi, but not my brothers' SAAB

I have been using a StreetPilot 330 for several years but looked forward to the new Nuvi 750 because of its small size and ability to navigate multiple routes. After using this unit for about a month, I have not been disappointed with the size or navigation.
I have, however, like others been most disappointed with how painfully long it takes this unit to find and lock on to satellites. This is even true on a blue sky day in the middle of an open parking lot! Some times it takes so long to find satellites that the unit ask if you would like for it to continue looking. At this point, you wonder if it will ever lock on as it should. My StreetPilot usually locked on in less than a minute but not so with the Nuvi 750.
I am also disappointed with the MP3 player broadcast to my FM radio. The quality is not very good and there is a lot of static even on the open road with no station interference.
If you are looking for a basic navigation tool, I would suggest one of the other Garmin units like the StreetPilot 330. You can save yourself about $300 and get a device that will navigate just about as well as the 750. In addition, $300 is a lot to pay for the additional features the Nuvi 750 offers over the more basic units.
All-in-all, I believe the Nuvi 750 is not worth the price.

I have 98% great things to say about this unit. Only 2 negatives: 1. Initial satellite acquisition is slow. 2. Speaker volume is too low. When it is turned to high the speaker has a high level of distortion.

This is my second Garmin (350 was the first).
This unit has a bigger, easier to see in bright light screen, it has the built in ant (nothing to flip up) and several new features (which I have not tried, except the FM transmitter).
I have read of two major complaints..
1. The new antenna is not as good.
2. The FM system does not work.
Regarding the antenna.. I can see no difference between this unit and the 350 I have... they both work great.
The Fm system, has to be tuned to a frequency that there is not other signal on, and it worked very well. However, you cannot listen to a radio station, so I tend not to use it. I suspect that where the car's antenna is (in the glass or outside) will effect the performance a lot.
Is it perfect? No. There are times where it will pick a strange route, so checking what it will be asking you to do is advised.
However, this is one nice working piece of technology...

This Garmin 750 is the third GPS I have owned and is the easiest to use of the three. Note it does not have Bluetooth or traffic alerts (I did not require either). Like all GPS units, the nuvi is limited to the maps of the day, therefor they may not have the location you are looking for or may have the location marked incorrectly. Also note that some streets are not shown as they really are. With these things in mind I find GPS units in general to be about 85% reliable, more like 95% on major highways & metropolitan streets. The 750's display is good both day and night. The built in speaker is loud and clear.
Good but a bit hard to use and therefore not great

I received this as a gift and I must say it has been interesting to own. However, it has been surprisingly hard to use, in part because the documentation is so poor. Only a quick start guide comes with the device, and the downloadable manual available from the manufacturer's web sit doesn't clearly explain many of the device's features. I actually learned more looking at this Amazon listing than I did from the manual.
Even the latest map download update does not work terribly well in the rural area where I live. It has only spotty information on such things as local emergency services agencies - doesn't list the county Sheriff's Department, for instance. The map doesn't know the names of a number of the rural roads. It does seem to perform better in a nearby midsize city.
It doesn't come with an AC charge adapter, and at least my first effort to order one from Amazon resulted in a shipment from a third party vendor that appears to be used rather than new, so beware of that - better order from Garmin if you want accessories.
The included suction cup windshield mount is very conspicuous, and since these are frequently stolen you're left with the dilemma of what to do when you stop - taking the suction cup off is not hard but sooner or later this isn't going to work well any more. There is a dashboard friction mount available as an accessory; perhaps that will solve the problem.
Though the description touts the device's ability to play MP3 files, it does this through an FM transmission to your radio that precludes listening to other radio channels or playing a CD, so don't buy it for that feature.
This model does not include real time traffic updates, but since they are only available for a few metropolitan areas around the country, none of them close to where I live, this is not a factor for me.
I haven't had it long enough to comment on things like durability, and I am not experienced enough with GPS devices to know if the map issues are universal. But I wouldn't be madly enthusiastic about this, only interested.

Great product, having a great time with it. Easy to use, very informative. Has clear instructions and easy directions. You can change the "voice" from female to male. If you drive "off track" the voice says "Recalculating!" At first she was recalculating a lot since we didn't want to take the long way home, and it sounded like she was getting a little upset with us because we didn't follow directions! Not really, but it does show you how acurate they are! Large touch screen is easy to read and has a bright light for night time driving. Great purchase.

Had to rely on tour guide maps since my GPS failed every single time in and around Michigan Avenue and downton area of Chicago. It does not maintain lock on GPS signal in downtown Chicago.
Im not sure if this can be resolved by external antenna...Need input from anyone who is using that to resolve signal losing issue.
I bought an MSN Direct receiver from Garmin (Price 124 dollars includes, 1 yr subscrption). It WORKS with Nuvi 750...(Best Buy guys were clueless on this topic during my product comparison phase.)
MSN Direct only works in limites cities....So you may want to check covergae and make sure you really need that.

I have used the grarmin nuvi 750 6 times so far and it has performed well.
It intially took several minutes to locate the satellite but that seems to be improving. It helps to download the detailed manual located at the Garmin website. Also the Garmin's battery lasts approx. 6-8 hrs befor recharging & only comes with a usb port cord & car adapter for recharging. Including a A/C adapter would have been more useful, especially if traveling. However overall, the Garmin nuvi 750 is worth consideration for purchase.

I am way behind on the cool gadget boat, but finally bit the bullet and after hours of research decided on the Garmin Nuvi 750. It has far exceeded my expectations! Worked well right out of the box with no connection issues. I really like how you can slide the map around with your finger to trace the route or view different portions.
I was a little worried about connection since I don't have an antenna on my car, but have had no problems and it's very quick to pick up route changes if I make a detour.
Only wish so far is to have external volume buttons and an ac adaptor (fixed this by using Gomadic tip exchange).

After reading reviews all over the internet, I decided to get the Nuvi 750 despite many reports of problems with acquiring a satellite signal. The first thing I did when I received my unit was to update the firmware with the very user friendly Garmin WebUpdater tool. After it applied all the updates I took it outside and it took approx. 2 1/2 minutes to acquire signal. After that, everytime I power on the device, it goes through the loading maps... and then it takes only 15 to 30 seconds max. to acquire signal. On a side note, I have been playing with the media player, and the FM transmitter is ok. It performs just as well as most of the FM transmitters I have used in the past for Ipods and portable media players. I would highly recommend the Nuvi 750 to friends and family. Also, be aware that the nuvi 750 DOES NOT come with Bluetooth functionality as the product title implies.
For me, better than 760.

Like many others, I researched vigorously to decide on which garmin device would be best for me. I chose wisely. The nuvi 750 has a very quick satellite bootup process and is easy and intuitive to navigate. Like others have posted, you have to hit the "back" key numerous times to get to the main screen, instead of simply hitting one button. I have not tried the routing feature yet.
My biggest debate was between the 750 and 760 (with traffic receiver - which looks like a cigarette plug, not build into the unit). I struggled with the $110 price difference, but the free receiver (which normally costs about $160) was tempting. Although the 760 comes with 3 months of free traffic, it's $60/yr after that. I was not interested in bluetooth, after reading the poor reviews, so it was really a matter of traffic or no traffic.
I find myself using the Nuvi device most when I am NOT in my own backyard. In fact, I listen to traffic reports on the radio and get all that I need when I'm close to home. I know these roadways so well that I don't need to develop a dependency on other electronics. However, I use the Nuvi when I'm further away from home, which is exactly where the traffic receiver does not work.
Overall, I'm very happy with the product I chose. If the traffic timeliness improves, I could always buy the separate adapter. I feel that for $363 (a week ago), I am able to justify my purchase much easier.

I had been researching navigation systems for about 6 months when I finally settled on this one in December 2007. So far I've only used it approx 10 times mostly in areas with lots of overhead trees and wooded-like areas where my cellphone loses its signal but this unit kept strong and got me to my destination. During my initial tests I've noticed that it takes some odd turns to get to places that I normally go, dont know if that's because it chooses streets with easier traffic patterns or what but several times I intentionally went off route due those "unnecessary turns", with the unit recalculating pretty quickly. This unit was originally around $800 and I got it under $500 so im very happy....

This is our first experience with the Garmin Nuvi. The product is a very good buy. The only issue we have had so far is it not keeping up with the roads while we are driving on occasion. Other than that everything else has gone smooth. Very nice to be able to take it out and move it to other vehicles.
Very good driving GPS, but computer interfacing is lacking (at least with what they ship or is downloadable)

I got tired of having lousy GPSes in my rental cars, while my coworker with a Garmin 2610 had very good results with his GPS, so after doing a bit of research, I bought the Garmin Nuvi 750, as a good compromise between features, cost, and a small easy-to-travel package.
What's good:
1. The routing has been very good, without too many odd routes.
2. The unit lags a bit, but is responsive enough
3. Built-in auto-recharging battery is a nice improvement over previous units.
4. Routing features are present that were lacking in many previous Nuvi units.
What's lacking:
1. The unit saves tracklogs, but I've been unable to download them. The standard answer from both internet groups and Garmin tech support is to use Mapsource, but the unit doesn't come with Mapsource (the data is preloaded). I can't believe I need to order $100 worth of software just to download tracklogs.
2. It would be nice to shut off some of the features to get more screen real estate, and it would be nice to have a field of user-configurable data fields like my older eTrex units.
3. You can't use the GPS when it's hooked up via USB.
All in all, I like the unit, but the software end of things could use some polish.

I agree with others who are reporting poor satellite reception on the Garmin 750 model. I also am experiencing satellite reception problems and slow satellite acquisition times with this unit (even following the suggested firm ware upgrades).
The reception problems I am encoutering seem to be specific to this unit, rather than Garmin products as a whole. I own two other Garmin products (the Forerunner 305 and the ETrex), neither of which seems to have any trouble at all aquiring a signal in my area (even indoors).
I also compared the reception on the Garmin 750 to the Magellan 4250. As with my Forerunner and ETrex, the Magellan acquired a signal much faster, and also acquired a signal when indoors.
I will continue to test for a few more days. If I am unable to resolve this issue, back it goes.

Simple to operate right out of the box. Quick start, very bright screen, great mapping and I love the FM wireless hookup to your car radio system. Also recalculates in mere seconds. Takes you right to your destination within yards, either by the fastest or shortest routes. Recommend the Garmin bean bag for sitting on your dash to hold the GPS.

I'm really liking my new Garmin NUVI. In reality I'm a very good navigator myself. But sometimes I missed a helping hand. NUVI has filled that space. It's voice activated guidance is quite good. One thing I feel is missing is that it does not give good points of interest options. The other day, I was looking for Walgreens, but I didn't see any options for Pharmacy. I had to spell that name....that was inconvenient. Other than that it works fine. I'll recommend you to buy it.

I have used Garmin hand-held and automotive products for the last five years and I must say that I am disappointed with the Garmin Nuvi 750. The hardware on the unit is first rate and it appears that Garmin has fixed the problems with satellite reception that the other reviewers have complained about. However, Garmin has taken a step backwards with their latest software.
br /
br /Garmin has attempted to make the unit easy to use at the cost of reduced flexibility and functionality. The user can no longer define a region on a map to avoid areas or roads that are under construction or hazardous. If you have a bridge near you that is under construction but still on the Garmin maps, the software will route you to that bridge over and over again. The user has also lost the functionality to customize the map display. For example, you can no longer display the speed of your car on the map.
br /
br /The Nuvi is a decent unit, but I will strongly consider other manufacturers for my next GPS purchase.

I've had this for a couple of days now along with my father who is technologically illiterate. He finds the unit very simple to use and that says something in itself. The screen is big, and I absolutely love it. I've noticed a lot of people saying that the it takes a while to acquire a satellite. Since I have a software upgrade OCD, I went to the garmin site to see if there are any other software that I could download for the device. Would you know there is a firmware upgrade for it that was recently release for the nuvi 750. Before the firmware upgrade, the device locked up alot, and now it rarely does. I think if people upgraded their firmware, most of their problems would go away. Honestly speaking though, I'm still in the honeymoon stage for it. But so far it hasn't been that bad. The occasional need to find satellites but it's faster than what most people say it is. Upgrade the firmware on the site and it'll become that perfect device you've been looking for. Cheers
Fast, Simple, Easy. Exactly what I wanted.

Fantastic for getting around town, finding new places to eat, and getting quick and accurate directions.

Garmin support has been excellent with a few questions I've had. But it worked right out of the box, updated my maps to 2009. I've tested it in NC, NY, CA, and canada and works perfect. I bought this Nuvi 750 to accomplish two things...guide me when I'm traveling, and to do geocaching with my family. It does reasonably well with the first task. The large screen, easy to type keypad, and other features work well. There seems to be a limit to the restaurants, etc., that it finds in my city (Austin, TX). After typing in a restaurant name, it will find locations in Houston and Dallas, but may not turn up anything in Austin...even though a location has been in Austin for years.
br /As for geocaching, it meets the basic requirements. You can either upload coordinates via USB or type them in manually and it will guide you to within a few feet of the cache location. I do wish there was a way to check the coordinates of a cache after loading and then use the "Where Am I" function to hone in on an exact point, but no such luck. Overall, it gets the job done, but could be improved for this purpose.

Perhaps I had realistic expections or just travel to areas that are easy to navigate, but I can find nothing wrong with this GPS. I've used websites like MSN Maps Directions for years to plot courses, and this unit is at least that good with the added benefit that it sits there and tells you where to go. Only on rare occassions have I seen it take several minutes to aquire satelites.

I purchased this product as a birthday gift for a friend. The gift was very well-received, however, the product did not live up to its expectations. My friend said the GPS would consistently lose its signal, or would take a more than reasonable amount of time to find one. There were also some issues with the POI's. To make a not-so-long story a bit shorter, the GPS was returned. (I have no idea what the birthday boy did with his very generous refund...)

Very easy to use right out of the box. Have used while driving around several cities on business (Richmond, VA and Atlanta). I even used it recently to track the progress of my flight to Atlanta (max speed now shows 520MPH)! I really like the size of the screen and that this model speaks actual street names instead of "turn right in 500 ft".

I especially like some of the features that the 750 has like multiple waypoints, pronuncing street names and choice of voices. The music and picture playback features were good too.
br /One thing I would like to see would be consolidation of menus.
br /I feel that I have to open too many screens to get to the features that I want.
br /Also I found that it could not always find things stored in it's memory on the first search.
br /I live in California and traveled to Minnesota. The nuvi failed to find Minnesota until I zoomed out on the screen and selected a point in Minnesota.
br /Read the fine print about free trial features, you may end up having your credit card charged for these things after the trial period is up.

Although I am somewhat familiar with GPS units, only recently did I purchase my first unit. After much research, I decided I wanted the new Garmin 750 and have waited patiently for 2 months for it to be released. Well, it is here and I couldn't be happier.
It is a toy, but it is a wonderfully designed and accurate play piece. And, best of all, it does EXACTLY what it is designed to do ........... get you from point A to point B with no problem. Of course, the extra features are a plus.
I am somewhat confused about the earlier review. The individual stated their unit was jet black. My unit is the same color as displayed ...... silver, albeit a dark silver.???????????? Maybe this was a typo, as the Garmin website does show the 760 & 770 as being a darker shade of color.

I bought the Nuvi 750 from Amazon w/ 2nd day shipping and got it the next day! This thing is extremely easy to use and the satellite pick up is quick. I updated to the version 2.6 software and it works great. I wish that I could customize the color scheme of the map but other than that I love it. I would have gotten the 760 but I also considered the Nuvi 760 but I didn't think that the added feature of bluetooth was worth the extra 120.00.

Easy to use for basic functions. Impressive look up features. Has some basic errors like it thinks our house in on the other side of the street, but this is a software bug that other people with Garmins have reported to us. I wish the accompanying documentation was more robust for the advanced features. You basically have to hack it.

Before buying the 750, I used to have a Garmin nuvi 260 and it was my very 1st GPS. I was very happy with the 260 because it did well everything it was supposed to do, except that at some times it would give me wrong directions, mention street names that didn't exist, recalculated routes that forced me to do multiple u-turns like an idiot, the USB slot is useless (no MP3 playback), keyboard was only available as alphabetical (unusable!), and used to get locked up if destination addresses were entered inside a parking lot with no satellite signal. In this last case I was forced to reset the unit or it would never come out of simulating routes.
br /
br /When I saw the 750 reviews I noticed some of those things had been fixed, like the keyboard now can be switched to QWERTY (finally!), the USB slot can be used to load MP3 music and audio books, the media player can be linked to the car's FM radio with or without cables, the road speed limits are now shown on screen (I like that!), and the power cable now connects to the mounting bracket instead of the unit itself, which makes for less fiddling with the cable. You can also set multiple stops in a trip, which was not possible with the 260.
br /
br /On the other hand, the maps are still ridiculously inaccurate. For my 1st use of the 750, I traveled from Prescott to Phoenix (Arizona) with my wife. We wanted to try new and different Asian restaurants and the Gamin Nuvi 750 had plenty to choose from. Here are some real world results from this GPS:
br /
br /1. We chose one at random based on the shortest distance, and let the 750 take us there trusting entirely on the GPS map. We ended up on a parking lot of a private house in a residential area.
br /
br /2. We tried another Asian restaurant in the vicinity, choosing randomly again from the GPS list by proximity, and this time it took us to the parking lot of a Mormon church in the outskirts of the city.
br /
br /3. We tried a 3rd Asian restaurant from the list, again by proximity, and it took us to a place that was indeed a restaurant, but that people told us it had been closed for at least 2 years.
br /
br /After 40 minutes of total failure, driving around trying to find a place to eat, we GAVE UP on the 750 and went looking around ourselves, and found a place nearby in just a couple of minutes.
br /
br /4. After this we wanted to find a Wal-mart because my wife wanted to buy a hard case for this GPS. The Garmin nuvi 750 is quite expensive but comes with no case whatsoever. Already laughing, we used the GPS to find the nearest Wal-mart and this time it took us to a Sam's Club instead, which we cannot enter because we are not members (ugh!!).
br /
br /5. We used the 750 to trace a route to the the nearest mall, and it drove us into a desert wasteland (I am not kidding you!!).
br /
br /6. We tried to get to the closest BestBuy and later (to make this short) to a CompUSA store and both had been closed for at least a year now.
br /
br /7. We asked around to avoid following the GPS blindly, and found out a place that actually existed, the Metro Center Mall in Phoenix, and used the GPS to take us there. The problem was that the highway 51 was under construction and the nuvi 750 GPS insisted on re-routing back to the same ramp we already knew was closed. We had to drive quite FAR AWAY from that ramp for the 750 to finally choose another route, but by then we were already far away from the intended route and had to take the longest way.
br /
br /8. I have to admit that what Garmin thinks it's the "fastest" route sometimes involve going through absurd routes, and this has been confirmed by reviews from other people. In the most typical case, the "fastest" route almost always involve being the longest, like I could had turn right and got the destination immediately, but Garmin preferred to go around the block in the opposite direction instead, which takes 4X more time and it's obviously not the "fastest".
br /
br /Conclusion:
br /The Garmin nuvi 750 is definitely an improvement over the 260 in what comes to features and ease of use, but the maps are still terribly inaccurate and some of the glitches still persist from the 260. I checked on the maps info using the 750 and it claims to be using the 2009 maps, which only confirm my suspicions that even the latest Garmin maps still prove quite inaccurate after all these years.
br /
br /The MP3/audio book players, FM transmitter, QWERTY keyboard, wide screen LCD, and display of local speed limits are all very welcome additions that make using the 750 a much more pleasing experience comparing to the older 260 model. Re-routing is VERY fast, almost instantaneous in my driving experience with it, which in some cases can be life-saving. Satellite signal reception is also much stronger than with my older 260, where in some cases I get signal locks even from inside houses and parking lots - really awesome.
br /
br /So there you have it: the pros and cons. I have never used GPS from other makers, so this experience is solely based on what Garmin has to offer and my need to get directions while driving on a city I am not familiar with. I am giving the 750 3 stars because of all the improvements and ease of use it has over the older 260 model, but taking 2 stars off because of the unacceptable map inaccuracies and the ridiculous routes Garmin put us through to get the "fastest" route.
br /
br /When I saw the 750 reviews I noticed some of those things had been fixed, like the keyboard now can be switched to QWERTY (finally!), the USB slot can be used to load MP3 music and audio books, the media player can be linked to the car's FM radio with or without cables, the road speed limits are now shown on screen (I like that!), and the power cable now connects to the mounting bracket instead of the unit itself, which makes for less fiddling with the cable.

When my tomtom was stolen 1 year ago I bought the garmin nuvi 750 because at the time(before tomtom iq routing)garmin was supposed to have the best north american routing. While it does often pick shorter routes,it does it by using a lot of secondary roads when for a few miles more a route using better roads(interstates, good divided highways ext)may be available.I like the garmin routing for short trips but for longer trips I perfered most of the TomTom routes.

I was very excited about this series(700s) for getting rid of the flip up antenna. I had very high hopes but was very disappointed.
Pros:
- small
- turn off and on with ignition
- mp3 player
- jpeg view
- SD card slot
Cons:
- poor satellite reception, had to reset almost everytime it is turn off, sometimes had to reset several times
- touch screen map scrolling not very sensitive, have to press and drag really hard
- no prompt keep straight, i took a wrong split several times
- no prompt to indicate if i have to make a turn, magellan has this feature and it was very helpful
- no prompt to indicate if i made the correct turn, mapopolis had this and it was very helpful
- poor orientation, it does not know which direction i am facing most of the time
- POI no label until pressed
- expensive
I am cannot recommend the nuvi for it's problem with navigation and routing.

GPS is on its way, so I will review that in a bit.
Just to let everyone know you do not have to buy the extended warranty from the same place you bought the item. I was able to get the same one for $25 else where. Just do a search on google for GPS Warranty and they will pop up. I called the company to confirm and they did. Hope this helps.

I purchased this for my wife, and she was able to follow the menu screens and type in addresses easily. The destination directions have been accurate so far, voiced clearly, and a missed intersection is quickly recalculated. We found the supplied window mount would not stick to the smooth flat plastic area of the dash for more than five minutes, however, at the window, the mount has remained secured to this time. The original intent was to keep the Garmin from blocking the view out the window, but a lower corner was found that did not hinder the view.

After using the Nuvi 750 for three days, I had to get a refund from Amazon. The speaker on the device is lacking which makes the voice prompts difficult to hear plus there is a rattling noise. There is also no attention prompt when a turn is coming. I find this to be a very useful feature. Aside from these two issues, the 750 4.3 screen is nice and bright

I received this unit as a gift and was very excited about it. I first tried to download the newest software and maps to it, but for some reason it wouldn't register for me. The customer service at Garmin was very helpful though and registered it for me and sent me a direct link to download the software. While they were nice about it, this took about a week to straighten out.
br /I then took my unit with the updated maps with me on vacation from my home in Pennsylvania to South Carolina. I also had written directions with our usual path on it just to compare. The Garmin took us into a major city in NC with many stoplights rather than the highway we usually take. Major detour mainly due to the traffic lights, low speed limit, and traffic around us. Also, it didn't recognize a major highway that has been there for over 2 years. It showed us as in the middle of a field and constantly repeated "Recalculating" for a good half hour or so. It got to the point where we just shut it off because it got so annoying.
br /Also, this was when I noticed static/scratchiness to the voice which made it difficult to understand what the GPS was trying to say. The customer service people said this was not supposed to be this way so I exchanged it quickly and easily. However, the exchange brought along the same issue with registering the unit...
br /The second unit had the same scratchiness in the voice and that was the last straw for me. I just returned the unit yesterday and I think I might try out a Navigon this time.
br /Overall, I never tried many of the features but the ones I did use, such as POI's were very nice and easy to use. I was pleased with the unit, but it would be nice to understand what it was saying. It also didn't work well in major cities, but I would expect that from most units due to tall buildings and poor satellite reception. Therefore, I give the unit a 3/5. Not as good as what I expected from a Garmin, which I thought would uphold my expectations of it.

this model is text to speach. nice slim design bright display.

br /displays speed limit on highways interstates. nice but, i wish it could display speed limits on smaller roads.
br /
br /another helpful feature: knows exactly were your at w/a touch of a button it lets you know the nearest hospital/police station, ect.
br /
br /tells you street names to turn right or left at most final destination. you can take it out of your vechicle and use it as a handheld gps it will also direct you back to your vechicle.
br /

It is difficult to do comparison shopping for a GPS, mainly because it is not possible to do "test drives". They don't work in the stores and reviews don't tell the whole story. I have used an older Sony GPS and one in a 2002 Toyota. This "top of the line" Garmin device is not dramatically better. It seems to me the processor is slow as it takes a number of seconds to make changes in route. It doesn't provide the most direct or fastest route. The screen "rewrites" in different resolutions as you approach a congested area or change in route; this can be confusing if you are not directly looking at it. Overall not worth the extra price; suggest buying a mid model.

I compare this to an older Magellan. Just seems to me Magellan gave more thought than Garmin. For example, I would like to see on the map the road you are on, also the smart spell of Magellan is helpful. Garmin also seem to cram more stuff than the normal person would use, currency converter and calculater are two. Software updates though seem to be easier with the Garmin and the routing and recalculating of routes is better in the Garmin. May want to opt for the less expensive unit, the mapping function would, I think, be the same for all Garmins..

1. The Nuvi 750 has a problem with FM transmitter. It appears as if the FM transmitter does not turn off when you un-mount the device and turn the display off. Hence the battery appears to continue to drain. After one night in the car, the NUVI becomes dead. No amount of car charging is able to revive it. Only solution is to connect to a wall charger overnight.
br /2. The FM transmitter if very weak, so virtually useless for hearing FM music in the car.
br /3. The navigation is much more sluggish than the older and cheaper Nuvi 360. Possibly because of all the extra code for the MSN direct integration. Often the map software won't recognize a turn until 20 yards after completing the turn.
br /4. The Routing feature appears to be the only significant new addition, and unless you drive a delivery truck, its not very useful.
br /5. The sliding power button on the 750 is not as nice as the push button power on the 360.
br /Bottom line - I would buy a NUVI 360 over the 750 any day. 360 is a fantastic, sturdy navigation device. 750 appears to be only half way there, by the way - it has a weaker GPS receiver than the 300 and 600 series, so you'll have a harder time finding your position in a downtown despite the new insta-fix patch.

I have just purchased the new nuvi 750 and have observed. On a recent trip the unit instructed at two different times to turn left then right. All this did was force around the block movement to get back to where the unit had me turn only to wind back where I was heading before it instructed me to turn. In a new area this was a little dangerous. I would be concerned for how often this will happen.

I have had my Nuvi 750 a few weeks now and I am returning it. I had a cheap older Tom Tom from a previous job and it was much better than this. For $349 this thing should be much better performance and quality wise. The volume is almost inaudible, then out of the blue the voice just stopped working, the machine says no voices found, no idea where they went just happened suddenly. Takes entirely too long to recalculate and orient itself, takes upwards of 5-10 minutes to find the satellites, reboots itself telling me it's loading maps. Cannot/does not find way too many adresses, places that have been around a long time too, to be very useful to me as a truck driver. Oh yeah, you cannot search by zip code which for me is a major issue. A couple other things I can't remember right now but overall I say it's junk and I'm returning mine this weekend for something else.

Reading the reviews here, I hesitate to offer my plebian opinions, but hey, I'm an American female and we are, de facto, opinionated. I have one of the old 330Cs--in its last incarnation before going out of production in favor of the nuvi's. It's GPS I own, I might add (how many does one need?!) and does its job very well. I live in a very remote area of the southern US, out of reach of DSL, out of reach of decent land line phone service, cable TV-- and a little over 20 miles from the nearest town of any size. When I got my 330C, about a year ago, it happened to be on sale for $175. I made sure I could return it, then took it home. I sat in the car and waited for it to 'find' me in my driveway. Took about 15 minutes, but it finally tuned in. This compares favorably with Google, which can't find my location unless I happen to know my longitude and lattitude (and I don't).
br / I drive over a 3500 square mile territory surrounded and interlaces with a lot of water. It's rural--not the best testing ground for GPS navigators. I find it does about as well as Mapquest, and can sometimes find how to take me where I want to go, even when I input the address and it says I can't get there from here. It is easily confused in watery areas--swamps, peninsulas, watersheds, etc. It works best in cities. I find it to be worth the price twice over, because I don't possess a viable sense of direction. If I had it to do over, I probably would have realized I was getting a late model prototype gone out of production and waited to purchase the next version. But the 330C still works and works well. It might be nice to have the kind that speaks street names, but that's not essential because Garmin backs up its spoken directives with text details which spell out route names and street names. This feature makes it fairly popular with hard of hearing and deaf drivers. I find the 750's 'where am I' and 'where's my car' an interesting feature. If and when my unit dies, I will enjoy a flat screen version that's pocketable. I would also like a more stable mounting system. This one works well, for a short time. As for being updatable? It isn't. Order the maps updates and you wait and wait and wait. Install them and there's little difference. The maps are the same.
br / I have friends who bought other Garmin knock-offs, and find them to be unreliable. This is not cheap, but the cheaper versions are not worth the bargain price when they fail. And they do fail. My advice? As in any other purchase, get the best you can afford, and resist the temptation to get a 'deal' of some weird name knock-off. In this case generic is not comparable with the brand name product.

i've owned the nuvi 750 for 8 or 9 months now. this review is applicable to the 750, 760, 770, and 780.
br /
br /pros:
br /
br /(1) once it's locked onto satellites, it is very accurate and stays locked.
br /
br /(2) it picks good routes most of the time.
br /
br /(3) the displayed and spoken directions work well.
br /
br /in general, it implements the basic function of getting you from point A to point B well.
br /
br /cons:
br /
br /(1) horrible, horrible user interface when running on battery power and the power gets low. it beeps and fills the screen with a "battery low" message and waits for you to hit OK. this would be just fine if it did it once, but it just keeps doing it about every 10 seconds, no matter how many times you hit OK. the unit becomes very irritating and essentially unusable (since, most of the time, the screen is filled with the "battery low" dialog box). even worse, it goes into this routine LONG before the batteries actually run out, so this stupid behaviour greatly decreases the usable battery life of the unit (and continues to do it with firmware flashed on 11/26/2008).
br /
br /you might think this doesn't concern you, since you'll keep your unit plugged in, however all of the following have happened to me: walking on foot in cities, driving in a rental vehicle with a non-working cigarette lighter socket, and having the end piece of the garmin car charging cable come unscrewed and get lost.
br /
br /(2) the built-in database of restaurants, stores, etc. has major problems. i could forgive it being a little out of date, but it often takes me to random places, sometimes even remote deserted areas, where there obviously never has been a restaurant or store of any kind. this is incredibly frustrating, especially when you're in a hurry.
br /
br /(3) start-up time is way too long. sometimes it feels like it's taking FOREVER to find satellites.
br /
br /in summary, when it works it's great, but it has some serious design flaws, which would make me think twice about ever buying garmin again.

br /in summary, when it works it's great, but it has some serious design flaws, which would make me think twice about ever buying garmin again.

I purchased the Nuvi 750 because it had excellent reviews. However, I was very disappointed with it because it often took 10 to 20 minutes to find any satellites. Also, it chose the longest route possible to get to my destination and wouldn't offer an alternate route. I now have a Tom Tom and am very happy with it.

I bought this product and started it up. It worked perfectly. Then I installed the update, and it crashed. Now it no longer powers on. I have to return it back to Amazon.
