When I retired some time ago I purchased a new set of clubs, bag, cart, Bushnell 1500 and the Sky Caddie. Recently purchase the latest Golflogic 2008 model and was up and running in 15 minutes with 20 courses of my choice.
br /
br /Advantages over the Sky Caddie:
br /
br /Batteries. I carry four extra in my bag for the Golflogix and in the past I have forgotten to charge up the Sky Caddie and it went dead half way through my round.
br /
br /The Sky Caddie is slow and you have to scroll through to select your course. The Golflogix selects the course and hole you are on when you turn it on. A very nice feature.
br /
br /Feel better about this unit being water proof. With the Sky caddie I purchased a waterproof bag container for the rainy days. (Which we get in Vancouver).
br /
br /One yearly fee and you download 20 courses anywhere. With the Sky caddie I had to pay additional fee's to download one course I go to in Wa.
br /
br /Big Bright view. I am sure this is because of the new technology. I would think the latest Sky Caddie would be bright as well.
br /
br /Con to the Golflogix over the Sky Caddie
br /
br /You cannot map your own course with the Golflogix as you can with the Sky Caddie. If your course is not on the list to download you could map it yourself. As I purchased the Sky Caddie at the beginning I had to map a few of the courses myself. You cannot map your own course with the Golflogix.
br /
br /I attach both to my Sun Mountain cart. My buddies like to know their distance to the pin and I always have the unit on distance of my shot when I advance after hitting my ball. This way I have the best of both worlds.
br /
br /I use the Bushnell 1500 with the slope as well. Sometimes you just want to know the distance to trees,,,landing area, the flag,,,downhill or uphill shots (This makes a difference as it compensates for the addition or subtraction of the distance).
br /
br /With all these toys you would think it would improve my golf game, ha ha...well my skill level needs improvement however I love to know how far I hit my shots,,,how far I need to hit them,,,,it makes my day a lot more relaxed and sometimes I hit the shot of the day.....
br /
br /If you are reading this review I would like to put a plug in for Sun Mountain. I purchased the C130 bag, the V2 cart, and the cooler bag. The umbrella fits into the top of the cart and you can easily get under it without bending over. I am 6'1" and am very happy with the set up.
br /
br /Upon retirement as mentioned I purchased a complete set of clubs. In hindsight I would go to a professional shop and have the clubs made for my body, swing, speed etc.
br /
br /The Golflogix GPS 2008 Model is a winner!
br /
br /Hope this review helps

Good luck with contacting their customer service. Does anyone answer GolfLogix's telephone? I even faxed a message, still no response. When I attempt to download a course, an error message appears that their system is down (now going into week three) On the positive side, the device works with my current list of courses.GolfLogix GPS by Garmin (2008 Model)

I recently purchased the GolfLogix GPS by Garmin (2008 Model). I've very pleased with my choice. I had reviewed about everyone on the market because I travel a lot and needed something that worked everywhere. It's just what I was looking for. It's so easy to download unlimited courses at 30 bucks a year. Shock proof, water proof and inexpensive.
br /
br /Down side: Tough on batteries. Always carry extras onto the course.

I am an avid golfer who uses this GPS a great deal. It started out working fine and then problems began. The main issue was that it would lock up and become useless. Also, the program for my home golf course was not updated and it wasn't showing relevant features. I had to request an update which was completed quickly. After talking to the company they were aware of the locking up issue and told me that a software upgrade was planned for Sept. 1 which would eliminate the problem. They should have been up front about this on their web site, in my opinion. In addition, the unit shuts off unexpectedly for unknown reasons (it has happened when bumped but is supposed to be shock resistant). I am waiting for the software upgrade to fix the lock up issue but if problems persist I will ask for a new unit. The unit is easy to use and I do like the GPS features that come with it and it has helped my game.

The GolfLogix GPS is sturdy-tough in both appearance and use. It is easy to read and navigate the interface and the information does make a difference, especially on the fairways. Since I walk and carry my clubs, I found that the included belt clip is too fragile and think a holster type carry case would be better...but I'll find something to fix this myself. Also think it consumes normal batteries too fast so I recommend the rechargeable strategy.

What an amazing device ! Simple to download courses, took just a minute or so to do 10 of my locals. And the first time I used it, it worked exactly as advertised. Powered up and acquired satellites in just a couple of minutes; I clipped it to my golf bag, and was on my way. Advances from shot to shot and hole to hole automatically; yardages at my home course were just laser-measured to the foot, and this little gadget was right on the money with yardages that my club paid beaucoup dollars to have done. Wish I had known about this item before we invested big bucks in an outside survey of our course.
br /
br /Our pro is considering buying them for every cart on the course, speeds up play tremendously, and even though I spray the ball a lot, it was never a problem getting an accurate yardage, even from a different fairway !
br /
br /Highly recommend this device, you CANNOT go wrong with it !

I love my GolfLogix GPS. I have toyed with buying a GPS for the course for several years, but decided to do so recently. I had initially planned on purchasing a Sky Caddie until I did some research and found out about the high hardware failure rates and poor customer service. When I looked at reviews online I couldn't find anyone who rated a Sky Caddie above 3 stars. Would you buy a new club that no one rated any higher than average? Well, I was well on my way to buying a Bushnell range finder until I saw the GolfLogix GPS. 2007 model had excellent ratings as did the 2008, so I bought the 2008 model. I have not been disappointed. They talk about quick service for updates and new course mappings...and they mean it. The first course I played had switched the front and back nines since the course had been mapped. I sent an email and the course was updated in 2 days. I haven't played anywhere that a hasn't been mapped yet, so I can't speak to how long that will take, but I suspect it will be done quickly. Also, battery life is a little short, but I wanted a battery powered one so I could always have spares in the bag...so I don't see this as a significant worry.
br /
br /One final note, a week after I got my GolfLogix GPS, I shot my first subpar round of my life! Now, I don't want to give it too much credit, but I was so distracted by my new toy, that I played worry-free golf!
br /
br /Good luck and I hope you find this useful.

This is the best Gps on the market today,I tried the sky caddie and you had to push too many buttons to use it. The golflogix is all automatic, just turn it on it does the rest, the only button you have to push is when you want to see how far you hit your last shot. You can see how far you hit each club you use in your bag.I would recommend this product to anyone who plays golf. EXCELLENT1

I chose this product because it sounded simpler than some of the others out there. I love that I just turn it on and page through to find the course I'm at from the ones I've downloaded, then it does the rest, automatically scrolling from one hole to the next. I was worried that having "only" 6 features per hole would be limiting, but it has been fine. It has the key traps, doglegs, etc., that I need to take into account in choosing my club. With this on my bag, I play much faster, and I'm making different strategic decisions at times since I have more (and more accurate) information to go on. My only problem with the GolfLogix is that I have trouble getting it back from family members who like to borrow it!

I find the Golflogix -2008 accurate enough for me. In fact I think I have broken 90, 3 of the last 4 times I played because of it.
br /
br /Two shortcomings should be overcome by Garmin- For no apparent reason, the unit would sometimes revert back to the first hole. I have to scroll through to get back to the hole I am playing.
br /
br /Secondly, compared to the golf caddie, it seems that distances to and over sand and water is limited - adding more course info that we can scroll through would be helpful.
br /
br /Overall, I am very satisfied with the help I get from this product.

I got the unit for my birthday and it worked really well my first 3 rounds. All the sudden the unit locked up and wouldn't scroll through the holes or turn off at all. I called GolfLogix customer service VERY frustrated. They logged on my computer right away, did some technical mumbo jumbo, and it has worked perfectly ever since. All in five minutes! It's nice to know even though a product can have problems that they care enough to fix it right away!

My Garmin GolfLogix is my second gps device for golf. I have owned a SkyCaddie for about two years and after spending over $100 per year on it,decided to try something else. The GolfLogix is easier to use and vastly superior in several ways. Simple to get the courses I want on it; simple to use and accurate. And unlike SkyCaddie ($60), the batteries are cheap. Garmin makes a great product.

Bought this unit because it seemed to offer the basic info needed at a reasonable price compared to SkyCaddie. Had trouble with cable connection to PC to download course info. Poor design of cable end that plugs into the unit. Unit has frozen up on me a few times meaning I've had to reload the software and course. Customer service is pretty good. Very reasonable in terms of yearly subscription to get courses -- $30/yr, unlimited courses. Unit holds 20 courses vs. SkyCaddie's 10 limit. On the course the unit seems to advance to show the immediate hazrds but I've have not figured out how to advance it beyond those hazards to the next set say around the green. It will do this automatically but only after you pass the first hazards. The buttons to page thru the courses and the buttons to scroll through the holes seem sluggish. Like I said, not a bad unit for the price, but not great.

I received the Golflogix GPS as a birthday gift. It's the only one I've owned so I can't compare it to others, but as far as ease of use, convenience, reliability and accuracy it's great. As I check the yardage markers to the gps, they're extremely close, and if not, I'll base my club selection on the gps which gets me to where I want to be (If I hit it right). With over 21,000 courses available to download immediately, the odds are good that your favorites will already be mapped. If not, you can e-mail a request to map a course and have it I think within a couple of weeks. It's real easy to read, even in bright sunshine. All my golf buddies love it too. Bad thing is I'm now the official yardage marker! I can usually get 4-5 rounds with one set of batteries, and keep a set of rechargeable batteries with me. It locked up on me once, took it home to reset it on the computer and it's been fine since. Didn't seem like that big a deal, everything computerized has a glitch now and then. If you like to ride, the stand that mounts on the cart is a real handy accessory. In my opinion, if you're looking for a golf gps, you won't be sorry you got this one.

I ordered this product because of the Garmin name, the 30 day return policy, and the fact that it is battery powered. I already have a Sureshot re-chargeable golf GPS unit.
br /The first problem I encountered was the necessity to pay a $30 subscription in order to test the unit. I ultimately returned the unit well within the 30 days, but was out the $30 subscription fee.
br /I chose the unit initially because I sometimes forget and leave my Sureshot on the charger. I liked the item of a battery powered unit I could leave in my bag with a spare set of batteries.
br /The main problem I found with the Garmin unit is the limited info it will display at any one time. As an example, on my home course, the first hole is a par 5. A 250 yard drive leaves you about 250 yds from a heavily bunkered elevated green and about 60 yards from a fairway bunker. I wanted a lay up distance short of the cluster of bunkers below the green, but the only distance the unit displayed beyond front/middle/back-of-green yardages was the distance to and to carry the not-in-play fairway bunker 60 yds away. If I wanted the lay up distance I had to walk past the fairway bunker before the unit would display the next bunker. No matter what buttons I pushed I couldn't get the unit to scroll through other distances.
br /The distances the unit does provide seemed to be accurate based on my limited tests but the weakness noted above was a deal killer for me.

The GolfLogix GPS is a very basic, straightforward golf GPS. I would definitely recommend it. Any disappointment I've experienced is due more to my high (unreasonable?) expectations than the quality of the product. For example, I was expecting a high tech, color display. Instead, the display is black and white and looks like something out of the late 80's. I'm technically proficient and I sometimes find it difficult to navigate the screens without getting lost. With time I've found the best thing you can do is leave it alone and it will automatically switch to the screen (e.g. hazard distance screen or center of green screen) you'd most likely want. I like the ability to measure off the distance I hit a ball. The only drawback is when I out drive my friends. They are typically asking me for "distance to the green information" before I get to my ball ... so I have to exit the "yardage of last shot" screen - mentally noting the yardage count when I exited - to give them the info. Then I restart the "yardage" counter and add the two results when I get to my ball. I've only found 1-course where some of the hole yardages were off and it negatively affected my club selection.

No brag ...just fact

Saves you time ...not looking for yardage markers. And it's accurate...on the money. Easy setup and download of favorite courses...actually surprised at the number of obscure courses in their database. Can't find your favorite course?...not likely. But tell them and they'll plot it for you.

If you are looking for something easy and simple, this is the unit for you. When I'm on the golf course I don't want to worry about hitting different buttons to get the info I need. Golflogix will give you the doglegs, bunkers, and hazards yardage when on the teebox and will automatically change to give the green readings for your approach shots. Also, if you are on hole 1 and your tee shot lands in the fairway on hole 2, Golflogix does not change and will continue to give the correct yardage to the green for hole 1. The set up and dowloading of courses was very easy as well.

I bought a golf logic from Amazon, and tried to register it on the web so I could download course information. I received a server error when attempting to register. I called Golf logic tech support and they said it was a "rare" problem that some people have. They indicated that I have 2 options: 1) find another PC and try registering, or 2) return the item. They have not discovered the problem root cause because, in their words, it doesn't happen often enough. I returned the item and bought a Golf Buddy which I love because it already has 20,000 courses preloaded and no annual membership fees. Yeah, it was going to cost me $29.95 annually with Golf Logix to download courses.

I heard about the Garmin Golf logix from a friend of mine who has been playing golf for years. As a beginner, I did not realize the importance of knowing distances to certain hazards let alone the green and flag. This gadget has actually helped my game in knowing how to more accurately select a club for a certain distance. My friends who do not have one YET continue to yell out, "What's the distance..." Highly recommended.

Great Golf GPS, I wouldn't play without it. Saves 3 - 4 strokes every round and keeps the round moving. Just make sure the screw that holds the GPS to the Mounting Bracket doesn't fall out. The 3rd time I used my GolfLogix, the screw came out and the GPS fell off the Mounting Bracket. I had to go back and find it. It's a good thing I look at it before every shot, so I didn't have to look long.

I purchased the Golflogix and installed the drivers and software. During the registration process, I got a "server error" message. I wasn't allowed to sign up for the annual memebership and could not get the process completed. After several tries, I finally called customer support and was connected with a "distracted tech person" who was not helpful at all. After explaining my problem, he simply told me that that error meant that the system would not work on my computer and I needed to just return it and get my money back. I questioned why it would not work on my computer and he just say that some computers would not work with the GolfLogix. Before returning the system, I tried to install it on a newer 2008 computer and had the same problem. I am returning the system and would not recommend it at all.

I have had the Garmin for a few months now - it performs very well with the exception of one hole on my home course where the distances are off. Ease of use is excellent - turn it on and go. I am getting about 2 1/2 rounds out of the batteries - might be worth the investment to get a rechargeable unit. A friend had a Sky Caddie at another local course and the course was not mapped - we used my unit. All in all very happy with the purchase - has really helped my short iron game.

What a great gadget! Instant yardages on course without the caddie (or me) taking 3 minutes to flip through the yardage book or having to take out the "gun" from its holster, aim wait for the yardage to come on screen. Yardage to hazards doglegs automatically come on screen. As you walk down the fairways, the yardage is updated with each step you take - amazing!

Item works great! Easy to download courses to your computer and then transfer to the GPS unit. Unit holds up to 20 courses. Doesn't have pictures of the green like the Sky Caddy and others but all I wanted to know was distances to front, center and back. Unit provides distances to fairway obstacles and clearance for obstacles. Overall price was better than comparable units and the yearly fee of around $30 to obtain access to all US courses also suited me better.

The GolfLogix GPS by Garmin, 2008 model, gives me just what I want and nothing more. I want distances to hazards and distances to clear them, and distances to front/middle/back of greens. Anything else would be frivolous and unnecessary to my needs. Clipped on my belt it's handy and accessible, unlike a laser or optical viewfinder that requires one to take it from a bag, steady it (difficult at best), and replace it in the bag. That adds about a minute to each shot, and really upsets those with you and behind you.

I shopped around a lot and and chose the GolfLogic and I'm glad I did. It works exactly as described. Everyone says that they don't need the yardage I yell out and then by the end of the round they won't hit the ball until I've confirmed the yardage. I take it everytime I go.

Helped lower my score by 3 strokes first time out. Easy to download courses. Gives you yardage to bunkers, hazards, front, center and back edge of greens. With a push of a button you can see how far you really hit a shot. No need to look for yardage markers. Speeds up play!

We bought the Golf Logix 2008 model in Spring of this year (2008) and at first, it was wonderful. After about 6 weeks, it began "locking up" where none of the buttons would work, and we had to pull out the batteries to get it turned off. Per the Golf Logix support team, you HAVE to "connect the unit to a PC and reset the options" while connected to the internet to get it to work again. Fine, except it fails on the first hole or so, and I don't have a PC with an internet connection on the course, so no GPS for that round!! When it started locking up almost every time I used it, they agreed to send me a replacement unit, but not a refund! It came in a few days, but even though I did what they told me to do to avoid a second $29.95 fee for the annual subscripton, I was billed anyway and had to call several times to get that reversed--no one answered my emails on this either. I got the replacement unit on July 7, 2008, and it locked up once, so I reset it, then it locked up again today (Aug. 28). I was assured that this problem was "very rare" and the replacement unit would resolve it so imagine how I felt when I read how many other customers have been down this road before me!! If I could, I would write to Peter Kostis and David Feherty and tell them how mad I am that they endorsed this piece of garbage, making me feel safe in buying it. Since the clock is running on the one-year warranty, all they need to do to steal my $300 is wait a few more months and I am totally screwed!

I debated between Skycaddie and this Garmin and am very happy with my choice. It's compatible with my Mac and the fee is less than Skycaddie as well as having a couple of local course that Skycaddie does not have. So far have played 72 holes with it on the same set of batteries.

I purchased a 2008 Garmin GPS 3 weeks ago. It's accuracy was marginal, needing to be 'modified' on several of the holes on my home course. Furthermore, the worst part, I made 3 (THREE) calls to customer support and none of them were returned. Each time I was instructed to leave a name and number and an associate would get back to me within 24 hours....NOT!

br /Of the two courses I used with the device, I had to modify both to increase accuracy to where I trusted the device on those courses. I happily sold the item for a bit of a loss.

I've had this product for two months. On numerous ocassions the software locks up and won't clear itself. You have to go online and reset the unit. This is unacceptable if you intend to use the unit often and keep it in your golf bag. Customer service has been helpful about educating the owners on how to use the reset option, but it shouldn't be necessary. At the very least, the unit should reset itself on a power down. By the way, didn't anybody think to include a scorekeeping function within the software. Since the unit is on during play, it would be great to record a score and track putts. I am not happy with the purchase. Its price doesn't justify the inconvenience.

I play at a local Military Public course that has been known for inaccurate distances on sprinkler heads. Since using the GolfLogix GPS I am more confident on the club I select to go the distance I know is accurate. I am just a recreational golfer now, but approximate my handicap at 10. I feel I can reduce that even further using the GolfLogix System.

The Garmin GPS is a useful and easy to use tool to help you decide which club to select when playing golf.
br /I would give them four stars but I am having some trouble with the batteries. The batteries are getting very hot to the touch and running out of juice after three rounds of golf. I contacted GolfLogix by e-mail and did not receive a reply. I telephoned Golflogix and after a ten minute wait I was told there is a slight glich and a fix would be put on line to download the same week. It has been one week and I have not seen the fix on line, nor received a e-mail to tell me about the fix, as was promised by the customer service. I will still recommend this system.

I bought this based on the many good reviews, but have been disappointed in many respects. The display lacks detail and can be very difficult to see, particularly in black and white, and the maps don't contain enough course information (distance to/past hazards, etc.) to be all that helpful The user controls are not intuitive. If you're at a course with 3 nine-hole options (say playing the Mountain and Lake course but not the Valley), the unit gets confused and starts you over, puts you on the wrong course, etc. It has a proprietary plug for the computer/charger, not a standard USB-mini, so you can't use the same cord to connect as charge as other devices like your BlackBerry, cell phone, digital camera, etc. Loading courses is slow, and not 100%. I've loaded updates of courses, only to get to the course and find the one I'm playing is not on the unit.

I bought this as a gift for my husband. We like to play couples tournaments, and this has been great for that. It is nice to know the yardages on unfamiliar courses, and how far to each part of the green. Easy to use and can't wait to take it on vacation with us.

Purchased the Golflogix in July, because I have been happy with Garmin GPS. Mistake. After problems with downloading software, I tried to contact Golflogix via e-mail and telephone. No response from Golflogix. I returned the unit under their "satisfaction guarantee" policy, and still have not heard from them. Postal receipt indicates unit was delivered to them on 08/01, and as of 08/18 I still have not heard from them. Have made two phone calls and sent two e-mails, and no response. Right now their marketing and promotions appear to be a sham. In the meantime have purchased a Sky Caddie, and am delighted with performance and customer service.

All around bad product. The three major courses I play in Anchorage, AK are poorly mapped by GolfLogix. Many, if not all, of the major hazards were not mapped. The format for the hazards that were noted on the unit were not useful as the distance to carry the hazard was not given. The software would jump to an adjacent hole and I could not get the unit to return to the hole I was playing, then to advance to the next hole in play I would have to reset the unit.
br /
br /The unit locked up repeatedly and would not turn off with the power button so it could be reset. I had to remove the batteries to reset the unit.
br /
br /I returned the unit and bought the Skycaddi SG5. I am extremely pleased with the Skycaddi SG5 and would not recommend the Golflogic unit.
