Highly recommended. I read the previous comment and can not understand why he had any problems.
br /
br /This unit is wonderful. Loaded like a charm. The Subscription was about $40 for a year and you can load 10 courses for this rate. There are higher subscription rates if you'd like to have more courses or even international courses. Change courses as often as you like.
br /
br /This even had the specs for my favorite "remodeled" course which was finished in February. Very up-to-date info.
br /
br /Accurate! Will measure to the center of the green and will even measure your drive distance. Problem is, when other people on the course see my skycaddie that all want to "play" with it. It can slow down the game.

My SG5 works as advertised- set-up went smoothly, course availability is excellent. This unit replaced the SG4 I accidentally destroyed, but links up faster and gives an accurate reading quicker than the SG4. Yardages are fast and accurate. On customer service- they ARE terrible. Don't expect them to walk you through set up if you have problems. Go to one of the skycaddie forums online if you need assistance. If you must deal with customer service- send an email through the skycaddie desktop (though chances are they will just ask you to return your unit).

If you are thinking about purchasing a GPS rangefinder, this is NOT the one to consider. What the manufacturer won't tell you is that SkyCaddie comes with everything you need: handheld GPS unit, belt clip, and crippling software and hardware malfunctions. Unless you are lucky enough to find a unit that isn't defective, and you won't be, you'll find Windows (XP or Vista) doesn't support their desktop client, nor does it recognize the device when connected to a USB serial port. Think you can fix the problem? Guess again. Customer support is worse than abysmal, I'm not exaggerating when I say I've dealt with AIRLINES that are more helpful. After waiting on the phone queue for 120 MINUTES, I was told by a smug and unconcerned customer "support" technician that the only solution to fixing my newly purchased $600 product was to return it. Golf can be a frustrating hobby. Why make it worse by having this glorified paperweight in your pocket?

I have used the sky caddie at my home course, and on several away courses. It seems very accurate, based on yardage markers on the course, and gives instant easy to read distances. I have kept it clipped to my golf bag, walking or riding, and it is getting to be second nature to check it on a regular basis. One must load the proper courses on away trips, however, and beware of using an incorrect course name when playing at a resort with four different courses -- there is no time to get to a computer to download the correct course when you are teeing off on number one. The display is clear, the size is right, and I am happy with this purchase.

I have had no issues with the SkyCaddie. I actually returned the GolfLogix due to issues with accuracy and difficulty reading the screen. The SkyCaddie is easy to operate, read, and is incredibly useful. I also prefer the number of golf courses GolfCaddie offers...and for $29 bucks a year...please, this is cheap folks! I did download the new Onyx screen theme and had no issues. I am using Mac, and it works great. They even guarantee that if you don't reduce your overall strokes per game you can return the unit...that is confidence! If the PGA and all the Pros and my local PGA/Country Club are using SkyCaddies...that is very telling Get One, you will love it!

Bought it, tried to load it. The website said it needed to load the Onyx color scheme and proceeded to erase the programming in the unit and freeze. After several tries I returned it to the dealer and tried a new unit. Same thing.
br /Customer service said that it was my antivirus or the settings in my IE that caused the failure. After resetting everything the way they wanted, it still did not work. Then they told me that when that happens you have to send it back to them to fix!
br /They should warn you to change the settings BEFORE you try to set up your unit! Not after. BTW I was following the instructions to the letter, not trying to wing it.
br /It's going back to the dealer. I'll try the Upor next.

I read a lot of reviews and had some concerns but went ahead and bought the SG-5 anyway. I link to my Mac and it works flawlessly. Many of my regular playing partners are using laser range finders but I think that this unit is easier to use - you just glance at it - and helps speed of play. I am careful about protecting my stuff so I just bought a LowePro digital camera case (REZO 50) and the SG5 just squeezes into it. Lowepro Rezo 50 Camera Bag
br /I recommend this without reservation.

The SG5 has worked at all of the golf courses I've used it at. I've had some issues with the yardage being off but most of the time it's pretty accurate. Battery life is pretty decent and will certainly last a round or two.
br /
br /My issue has to do with price and the ability to customize. First off, price. A few hundred dollars for golf GPS software plus the yearly fee isn't exactly cheap. Second, what do you do if the green is off by 30 yards? It's happened several times. You can call up customer service and have them re-mark the course but what guarantee is there that it will happen? None apparently, as my local course is still marked incorrectly after several calls.
br /
br /I ended up selling the device and downloaded golf GPS software for my BlackBerry. It might not look as pretty but it's free, there's no subscription fee, and if a hole is a bit off I can update yardage through the software in real time. In the end I traded $$$ graphics for accuracy. Works for me.

This product surpasses every expectation I had.

br /Skycaddie speeds up your game as you don't have to spend time searching for the yardage markers. If you like to walk like I do, SkyCaddie saves you even more time if you happen to miss the fairway to the opposite side of the cart paths where the yardage markers are painted.
br /
br /Where SkyCaddie realy shines is when you stray way off target. When your drive is in the other fairway, SkyCaddie tells you what you really need to know: no more frustrating calculations based on how far over you are from your hole's yardage marker (providing you can see it).
br /
br /IntelliGreen works well, and if you know exact pin placements it works even better.
br /
br /I was easily able to map a course not on their list.
br /
br /When I'm playing a course that requires carts, I still prefer my SkyCaddie over the annoying GPS information screen mounted in the cart.
br /
br /I started the season as a 12 handicapper, and shot my life-low of 75 (3 over) in October.

I am happy to report that the Sky Caddie SG5 performed flawlessly right out of the box. Downloads are easy.
br /
br /For players like myself, who belong to county golf associations that play many local courses, I would recommend that future models support more than ten courses at one time on the device. Twenty or twenty-five would be a nice number. Memory is cheap now, so there should be no technical reason for the old limit of ten courses.

This device, SKY CADDIE, seems to ONLY work well SOME of the time. You can be standing in one spot, not moving and the yardage indicators can change dramatically or it will start reading other holes if you are in the wrong spot.
br /
br /Of even more importance are the incredibly BAD after products and absolutely horrific customer service. $10 for a Clip (worth about .10 cents). $15 Bag Straps (a simple piece of nylon) doesn't even fit around standard 10" bag, $25 Case is a piece of garbage and trying to speak or even get customer service is a nightmare. Oh, and let's not forget the outrageous fees of $50 they charge just to be able to use the device on a golf course. Unless you are a total fool STRONGLY ADVISE - DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM.

When I received the SG5, I immediately charged it up and played the next day. The distances were very accurate...validated by my laser and the cart GPS. It certainly came in handy in places where the laser would not have, such as times with no direct line of site to the pin. I've now played about 6 times and have experienced no problems. I just learned before my last couple of outings of the ability to use it at most driving ranges! The distances to the flags were accurate and it made it easy to switch targets without having to laser the individual flags or check pace off distances from the plaques at the range. The Onyx style looks great!

I am not sure what is causing the problems of the previous two reviewers but my SG5 works great as advertised. Syncing up was no issue and I had 10 courses in the unit in a matter of 30 minutes. Accuracy on the course seems to be very good and I haven't found a course that isn't in their database. There may be better GPS units available but the course database is the key in my decision to purchase a Skycaddie. Hands down, they have the largest database for the U.S. and Canada which is my primary interest.
br /I am sure that the next generation of Golf GPS's will have pictures of each hole with all of the same courses as in the database today. But, until then, this is a very good unit.

The SkyCaddie SG5 can't be detected by Windows. Try to contact customer support, and you'll get so angry you end up throwing it out the window. They offer two solutions. One is to return it, the other is to send it in so they can "fix" it. I bought this thing last week, so I kind of doubt that it needs repairs. Save your money and buy a laser rangefinder, or a competitor's GPS that actually works. Anything from SkyGolf just isn't worth the cash or the frustration when you take it home and realize you have a broken walkie-talkie in your hands.

The first unit I purchased had a defective satelite receiver. I had to mail it back. SkyCaddie has a great website and the email response for problems is within one day. I sent the unit back to Amazon and SkyCaddie re-instated my membership on the new unit. The company is true to their word.
br /As for golfing, the device is priceless. No matter where you are on the course, you know yardage to targets and trouble. The "intelligreen" technology is great. You know the size of the green and as soon as you see the pin you can figure yardage to the pin location. No more guesswork on approaches. I played a course for the first time and had no hesitation is club selection. LOVE IT.

We all know that this thing works OK gives reasonable accurate yardage to the green. BUT-the customer support is pathetic! Difficult software that works marginal at best, requires yearly fees and when I upgraded my service paid $20 only to find out it was only good for 2 months. When I call "customer support" "if you can get through", they are very argumentative condescending.

This is a wonderful item (Sky Caddie SG5) to help in choosing your club selection for hitting shots from 150 yards into the greens. This product is also very easy to use - it was a little confusing setting up an account with Sky Golf on the computer the first time, but after that it has been easy to add and delete courses from the unit.

I recently bought the SG5 and have used it for 8 rounds. I also own a Bushnell range finder (without pin seeker). I find the SG5 much more useful. The biggest advantage is knowing the distance to the front, middle and back of the green from any angle of approach. Blind or uphill doesn't matter a bit. I'm learning exactly what swing it takes to go different distances from 100 yards in. The layup distances are very helpful. My third time out using it I shot the best round of my life.
br /
br /I am still carrying the Bushnell, but have only used it once since I got the SG5. Every course in my area (DE) that I play has been mapped and is available for download. All those on my planned golf vacation next week are mapped. I looked up some courses I have played in Phoenix and Florida and they were already mapped. You can check their website to see if the courses you normally play are done.
br /
br /I bought the car charger so I can plug it in my car and not risk forgetting and leaving it home on charge. This has worked out great.
br /
br /Its also helped me learn exactly how much carry I can expect on a good shot which has helped me get the ball closer to the pin or given me a shorter chip. My handicap has dropped from 13 to 11 so far.
br /
br /My only wish would be that you could download the courses to your computer and then transfer them to the SG5 without the annual membership. I would be willing to pay a few bucks for to add an additional course I was going to play when I download it. 95% of the time I play the same 10 or 15 courses.
br /
br /Overall - this thing ROCKS.

Setup was quick, accurate, large database, intuitive interface, belt clip works very well. Cannot really fault this unit so far, admittedly only used it twice, have not asked for a course to be mapped so not sure how long it takes. I also have a sureshot and this is a far superior product. I am happy with the purchase, though a word to the wise, I bought on ebay for $100 less than on Amazon.

Skycaddie is too big and it can't compare with newcomers to the market like the uPro. Charging membership fees to have access to 1000's of courses is great for Skycaddie but a waste for the golfer. I play at most 5 different courses. I have a uPro in the mail and that is that. I suggest you consider doing the same.
