Love this product. They currently don't have the Vista OS programmed for downloading, so had to use my older computer to get the Skycaddie up and running. I also bought the belt clip accessorie and would not recommend anyone to get the Skycaddie without that nice accessorie. Now for the meat and potatoes. The unit is accurate. It let's me know how far to hit to layup, go over, avoid all hazards on courses with a 4 Star rating (which means they really mapped out the course for use of the sky cadddie) so go on line before buying and make sure the courses you play are 4 star rated. It is so easy to use,and it knows when you moved to the next hole so there's no remembering to set it to the hole your playing. Want to know how far you hit that dream drive? Just press mark from where your standing, get up to your ball and press mark again and bingo, you now have bragging rights! I went with the most expensive, just because the difference was small enough to not do it, and I made the right choice.

Despite having some trepidation after reading the reviews of owners who had unpleasant experiences with the SG4, I bought it and am glad that I did. My experiences using the SG4 during play have been very positive, even though on occasion the weather conditions have been so bad that I could only get a signal for some of the holes. The large screen allows the user to easily see each of the obstacles on a given hole and know the distance to them and the distance required to carry them. The SG4 also provides a more detailed view of each obstacle as well as the distances to the front edge, center, and rear edge of each green. For golfers who like to know the exact distance they hit each of their clubs, the "MARK" feature is marvelous. Being able to have all of this valuable information available for 10 professionally measured courses and 5 personally measured courses is of significant value for golfers who play a number of different courses not only on a regular basis but also for courses being played for the first time. The SG4 also has a memory card slot for being able to download more courses when that service is offered in the future. I think the the downloading procedures on the SKY GOLF web site are somewhat confusing but not very difficult to figure out and use with only a few minutes of effort. I know several low and mid-handicappers who LOVE this device, and I share their enthusiasm and opinion -- I am a high handicapper. I also own a Bushnell Pinseeker 1500 with slope and consider the SG4 to be a far superior "tool" to the Bushnell. NOTE: there is at least one additional cost that buyers will incur after they receive their Sky Caddie -- the subscriber fee for downloading courses for 1 year. The fees range from $30 for courses measured in one state that you designate to $80 for worldwide use.

What a piece of garbage!?!?!?

I have had two of these units (SG2 and an SG4) and all I can say is "don't believe the hype". While the units are an unbelievable concept on TV and work (NOTE: WHEN THEY WORK) great, the lack of computer knowledge and the unbelievably awful customer service provided by Skygolf is, by itself, sufficient reason to choose another product in this arena.
br /
br /Just to relay my experience (and keep in mind I have 15 years in the high technology industry to leverage open when attempting to set-up these units), it took almost six hours on the phone to set-up my original SG2 and even then it was constantly destabilizing my system software (ie-endless restarts).
br /
br /When the SG2 was stolen at an event, I purchased an SG4 to obtain the next generation of the product. Since the January 2, 2007, purchase date, I have been on the phone with no less than eight customer service representatives for a total amount of time approaching ten hours (including one Saturday morning, prior to a Sunday event, when they requested I “attend” a conference call regarding my unit at 5AM (NO, that is not a typing error on my part!) California time). I have purchased/received (Skygolf sent me one unit from their headquarters out of desperation) and returned three SG4s at various points in the process to ensure that the units were not “damaged”. I have attempted to download the software and access the website via the SG4 on five different computers and EVERY SINGLE SERVICE PACK OF MICROSOFT WINDOWS 2000. Even after I forwarded Skygolf the computer log to show them the problem (software error) neither the software developers nor the customer service department could figure out what was wrong and the units were never operational.
br /
br /At this point, all I can say is what a complete and utter waste of time this process has been and how frustrating (to echo another review) it is to deal with the people behind the product.
br /
br /No product, no matter how fabulous in concept, is worth this level of incompetence during set-up and operation.
br /
br /Good luck to you if you purchase the product. I hope your experience is better than mine.

br /I emailed Skycaddie "contact us" the day after I bought a SG4 to ask for help.
br /
br /I have received no response in 3 weeks.
br /
br /I played today with it for the first time.
br /
br /A guy I was playing with today also had a SG4.
br /
br /Neither of us could get a distance reading despite the indicator saying we had a strong GPS signal.
br /
br /All we got was "999" or complete blanks.
br /
br /He has played with it four times and said it worked ok twice and didn't work twice.
br /
br /It looks GREAT on TV. It is a real pity that my unit didn't work today.
br /
br /I plan on returning it this week.

I bought this for my husband's birthday this month. I set it all up for him - it was so easy to do! He took it right out that weekend and absolutely loved it. I actually bought it at a Golf Galaxy store. At least 10 people in the store crowded around me while the salesperson explained the features. A couple of the people were guys who already owned it and raved about how great it was.
br / If you need a Father's Day, birthday or Anniversary gift for a special guy, this is a sure thing!

Worked out of the box and downloading courses was easy. I was skeptical when I ordered it because many people report big problems. Nothing worng on this front. Work first time every time and even if in your pocket.

I just received my 3rd SG4 in the last 6 months. The first one worked for a month. The second worked for one round. This newest one worked for one round, now can't lock on to a signal at all. When it works, it is a wonderful system. But, clearly, the electronics are defective. This is the last SkyCaddy I'm trying.

Be warned that many units have problems with suddenly hanging up requiring the user to disconnect/reconnect the battery to reset. Even though it's a problem with their unit, they ask for you to pay to ship to them, they keep it for 10-14 business days, then they send it back ground. I've been without my unit for a month now and have to pay for expedited shipping so that I get get it before I go on vacation.
br /
br /Other than that, it's great.

I have owned my Skycaddie SG4 for 7 months now and it has really helped my game. I basically play one course in La Quinta and the sprinkler head yardage markers are hard to find and often missing. So when I got the SG4 it gave distances to the front, middle, and back of the green which is all I need. I also found on ebay a custom holder that fits the unit and clamps into the cupholder on my golf cart, so it is very visible and stable. I haven't had any real problems with the unit. Sometimes it takes a while to aquire and I don't have the patience to wait for the "ready" indicator. Generally, it take 10 minutes to aquire positions. Last week it would not aquire or hold any satellites so I could not use it. I saw on Sky Golf web site how to reset the GPS and that seemed to work find after the reset as I got 4 bars and good range indications. The unit seems rugged and the screen is easy to view, much larger than the SG2. I like the ability to mark the beginning and end of a drive. Battery life seems good and I get two rounds on one charge, although it is good to charge it between rounds just in case. In general the yardages shown on the Sky Caddie are in close agreement with the course markings.
br /
br /My one complaint is the charge-plug/USB adapter. It requires you to screw in a small pin header onto a mating socket on the back. I assume it was selected for water-resistance but it is very clumsy to align and tighten. I am always afraid of cross threading and ruining the connector.
br /Overall, I think that this is a great product with some areas that can be improved.

I got this for my birthday in July and it already has a problem, I cannot download! My computer cannot find it on the USB bus. I have ordered a new cable.....I hope that is all that is wrong.
br /The unit works good and the battery life is acceptable but the download program needs a lot of work!
br /$300.00 and a 3 month warranty? I would recommend a Garmin!

I bought a Sky Caddy SG4 less than a year ago. Paid $350+ for it. Since receiving it, it has gotten slower and has been less and less able to find and then retain a satellite signal. People with older Sky Caddys that I play golf with don't have the same problems I do, so I sent it back for repair. That was weeks ago and I can't get a status update or an estimated time to repair from Sky Golf. Their support is not even close to acceptable. Don't waste your money on this device and do shop around for something other than a Sky Caddy before you buy.

Hope nothing goes wrong

My cousin owns the SG2 model and I liked the idea of the unit. I play about 4 times per month. Since the SG4 is pricey I researched as much as I could about the product. I heard the software was clunky (true) and the customer service is terrible (also true). Despite these misgivings I went ahead with the purchase. The unit worked great the first couple of rounds then less so the next couple of rounds. Performance then dropped off dramatically as the unit could not acquire the satellites. I got about a month's use out of it which used up the 1-month warranty. The unit was never dropped, hit, got wet, or stressed in any way. Per customer service instructions the GPS was reset on the unit and the battery was fully charged before play. No improvement at all. SkyCaddie has basically said I'm SOL, better luck next time. When it works it is great. Just hope that you do not get a lemon or you too will be sorry. The company simply does not stand behind the unit in any meaningful way despite the high price tag.

Twice in the last six months, the software in the device has malfunctioned and I've had to send it back to SkyCaddie. They are good at fixing it, but it takes about three weeks out of the golf season. For this price, the device should not malfunction.
br /
br /There are a lot of GPS choices. I wouldn't buy a SkyCaddie again.

I have had one for the past year. It has helped considerably. Rarely find a course not in the directory online, except for the new ones. Every once in a while I have to use the GPS reset feature, but I have to reset my PC from time to time as well. It is a technology thing I have grown to accept....reluctantly. Only gripe is the battery seems to fade over time faster than I expected. But it is still better than all the AAA's I would have used and thrown in the landfill.

Listen to the negative reviews, they are all right on. My second unit this year still works with resets once or twice each round. They just won't hold a signal even on a clear day at 70*. Buy something else, I'm going to do so in 15 days when my overpriced subscription expires. Customer Service - you must be kidding!!!!

I've downloaded 8 local courses to this device and it worked on ONE of those courses. Complete waste of money. It worked perfectly on the one course, but it is useless otherwise. Incredible....

I have had the device for 1 year now. It works very well. BUT - in order to continue using it for years 2 thru x, you must fork over $30 each year to Skygolf. This for a device that you already paid full price for :-(.
br /
br /This is like having to purchase your cable TV box then paying TimeWarner another $60 each month to use it. Without the service, the device is worthless.
br /
br /Most of us do not need constant computer download updates of golf course information in order to be perfectly satisfied with our SkyCaddie. Too bad SkyGolf is not satisfied with the $300 we alread paid them.
